School Shooting - Guess Who's Fault?

  • Another parent said police should have taken action sooner.

"My concern is if the police knew that all this activity was going on, why did they wait until after the shooting to step up the patrols?" said Lawrence Bosley. "I mean, if they knew all of this was going on, they should've been out here long ago, and when it's over, how long are they going to be here?"
Yup. So you better start feeling guilty about this one. Start feeling shame.

And that's not all:
  • Alderman Carrie Austin said, "There needs to be some things put in place where our kids can feel safe in their own neighborhood. I believe our police department are doing a good job, but there needs to be some more things done," Austin added.
More things done. Hmmm. We have an idea! This will be the greatest idea in the history of Chicago policing - let's outlaw all the guns! If we outlaw guns, then there won't be any more guns around to ... what's that? Already done? But then how did a criminal get a gun to shoot these people? Hmmm. Maybe we could put cameras in buses. That'd make everyone feel safer even if they weren't actually... what's that? Already done? Damnit. No guns allowed, cameras everywhere, how is it that there is crime anywhere in Chicago anymore?

And this ends up being a tragedy on a number of levels:
  • Bond said Holt did not belong to a gang and that his mother is a member of the Chicago Fire Department and his father is a Chicago police officer.
  • Harris told the Chicago Tribune that Holt was a good student with a "bright future" who was taking physics and other college preparatory classes.
  • Students said Holt died trying to protect a female student.
So we have a smart kid, from all reports raised correctly, headed for college, dying while trying to protect another student. Dying while doing the right thing at the cost of his own life. Mother CFD, Father CPD - who do you think he learned it all from?

When they catch the shooter (and they will), let's see how his family life compares to Blair Holt's. Hey aldercreature Austin? That is EXACTLY where you ought to be looking to do "something more" and trust us, it isn't the job of the police.

and so...what about the availability of guns? I'm not a supporter of gun control (it's a guaranteed failure - last reliable estimate: 270 million firearms in the public's hands); blame the police? how about either hiring more police AND/OR disbanding many of the bullshit units and re-assigning those assigned back into the field: blame the police? how about blaming the guy who pulled the trigger? He's the one who is responsible, no? (reviving the notion of individual responsibility, the idea that every person should take and assume responsibility for their actions, instead of assuming the liberal position that "collective society" is responsible)...

What I find especially sickening is the fact that "the poliece know who they are looking for", but none of the news outlets can release the name of this bastard because he is a minor.
What the fuck!!!!!!!
His rights ended when he pulled the triger.
My only hope is that if this fucker is found, the "arresting" officer just kills him.
Lets spare our fellow officer the difficulties of a trial.
Guessing from his actions, this shitheads parents don't care about him anyway.

i find that it goes back to the notionof lack of personal responsibility which unfortunately is rampant in the "minority communities" with some of its members.i find it utterly amazing that the media and the parents cry how we racially profile and criminalize the youth with too much police presence but when we are not everywhere to hold their hands like parents, because lets be honest we have to parent these kids more than their own parents, its our fault that certain kids can not act like civilized young men and women? there is only one person responsible for this tragedy, the little animal who was the shooter.its not the fault of the police, its not the fault of "society". this little animal made a conscious choice. lets face it the leaders of the black community would never blame the shooter because they get their power by keeping certain members poor and dependant on them like children, and if a black leader would ever have the courage to say that you should be in control of your life. they would lose power.political power.to the holt family, may god bless you and keep you in your time of loss,my prayers are with you. every one be safe and back each other up and lets take care of each other.

The San Francisco Police Department is the latest California law enforcement agency to be sued for allegedly failing to report criminal suspects who might be in the United States illegally to immigration authorities.

A lawsuit filed last week in Superior Court on behalf of San Francisco resident Charles Fonseca claims the SFPD does not alert U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when they arrest undocumented immigrants for certain drug-related crimes, as is required by law.

"The police can't decide they are going to enforce some laws and not others," said David Klehm, an Orange County lawyer who brought similar suits last month against the cities of San Jose and Los Angeles

To the fuckheads that are
questioning the Holts choice of high school.
Go eat your pistol.
How dare you!
They pay taxes and have the right to expect the bullshit Chicago public school system to educate him.

The fault lies with the
kid that did the shooting, and his parents.

On a side note, with the C.P.S. creating school within schools, it's time to create schools for the kids that excel, and
schools for each gang.
Any kid that commits an assault, battery or weapons violation should be placed in a "special" school that they must attend from 8am to 7pm.
Closed campus and only the 3 r's.
Schools already provide breakfast and lunch, add dinner and you contain the darlings for most of the day. If they don't/wont conform the juv. detention.
With the reduction in crime that will most likely result, society
will come out ahead.

The liberals have mollycoddled the criminals long enough. It's time to protect the
the good people.

TO: 03:21:00 AM

DON'T BLAME THE CPS, DON'T BLAME THE OFFICER AND FIREFIGHTER PARENTS ... BLAME THE LITTLE S**T WHO COMMITED THE CRIME.

IF SOME OF THE WORKING CLASS WHO HAVE SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN AND LIKE US WHO ARE REQUIRED TO STAY IN THE CITY WOULD STOP RUNNING FROM THE CPS AND REQUIRE THEM TO DO THEIR F***ING JOB MAYBE WE WOULD NOT HAVE TO WORK THAT SECOND JOB FOR OUR CHILDREN. NOT SO OUR CHILDREN CAN GET A BETTER EDUCATION, RATHER A SAFER EDUCATION.

WE ARE TAKING OUR CHILDREN OUT OF A SYSTEM WHERE EDUCATOR'S HAVE TO BE CERTIFIED AND PUTTING THEM INTO CATHOLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS WHICH DO NO REQUIRE CERTIFICATION. MANY OF THE TEACHERS IN THOSE SCHOOLS, WHILE THEY MAY BE VERY KNOWLEDEGABLE WERE NOT REQUIERED TO LEARN TO BE EDUCATORS.

AS A DEPARTMENT MEMBER, I DO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND I ALSO BELIEVE THAT MANY OF THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS ARE SAFER; HOWEVER, IF WE WERE TO ENROLL OUR CHILDREN INTO THE CPS SCHOOLS (WHICH WE ARE ALREADY PAYING FOR WITH OUR TAX MONEY) MAYBE WE COULD HELP OUR CHILDREN WITH THEIR WORK AND TAKE A MORE ACTIVE ROLL IN THEIR EDUCATION, AND FORCE CPS TO DO THEIR JOB INSTEAD OF WORKING OT'S AND PART-TIMES IN ORDER TO PAY FOR PRIVATE SCHOOLS.

THIS COMES FROM A CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER WHO IS A PRODUCT OF CPS, WITH A B.A. AND A MASTER'S DEGREE, WHO CHOSE TO BE AN OFFICER, THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD. FURTHER I'M ALSO THE CHILD OF A CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER WHO WAS ABLE TO SPEND TIME WITH THEIR CHILD AND NOT WORK A MILLION JOBS.

MY PRAYER'S GO OUT TO THE HOLT FAMILY!

THANKS FOR READING MY RANT.

From everything I have heard, Blair Holt was a good kid. He certainly did not deserve to be shot down at the age of 16. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Anyone can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. high school student should have the right not to go to school in a gang infested enviornment and to ride the bus back and forth from school safely. But sadly this is not the case. This is another reason why I spend the money and send my children to a parochial school.

I agree with Ald. Austin... but before you guys jump all over this one, let me explain...

We need the school patrol unit back up and runnning, we need over time, and we need to hire at least 4,000 additional police officers to patrol the streets so that we can REALLY SAY... we have 13,500 sworn!

Is this unrealistic? Yes, this is and it will never happen, that is why I agree with Ald. Austin - these are the things that need to be in place.

My prayers are also with the Holt family in this time of sorrow.

Now would be a good time to revise or rewrite the juvenile laws. For one, lower the age a juvenile can be charged as an adult. Lower the age to 15 and make all, all, school related crimes an automatic stay at the Audi Home. Forget the station adjustments.

Bring back the school unit.

Stagger the start times of the specialized units in our department, then they can be dispatched to the problem schools at dismissal time and reduce the carnage. Why are we allowing these thugs to prey on the grammar school kids or the good kids that attend the high schools? I'm not talking about the officers who day after day are out numbered by these thugs and go from one fight to the next. Going from one fight to the next, to save the innocent and younger kids from being pummeled by these predators. Often times these officers are arriving on the scene of a fight 99 til help arrives. These officers deserve more support. Believe it or not, there are some good kids out there, they deserve to be safe. Get the over abundance of officers, sergeants and lieutenants who are doing clerical work, back on the streets. Caps offices used to have 3 officers and the front office used to have one or maybe a second for relief. Reduce their workload, and you'll free up some bodies for real police work and not some that specialized in field trips. Go to Headquarters and you'll discover many who could be helping us in the streets.
(and I'm not speaking of a legitimate IOD injury or someone who is near retirement)
Put the medical abusers and/or light duty officers at these jobs or in a district to answer the phone. This would free up a healthy body.

Go after the medical abusers period, and we all know who they are.

Could someone speed up the roll out for the new PDT's? We could really, really use them in the district when we need to identify a suspect in real time and not half to travel back to the station to ID a wanted offender.

really, the shooter is the one at fault, nobody else. In a free society, people have access to many mechanical inventions, including firearms. They can all be used for good or evil, depending on the user. Anyone can just get behind the wheel of a car and run someone down purposefully if that is their intent. Until there is intelligence in our political leaders, things will not change much. Too many liberal politicians sticking with old and proven wrong ideas, and not acknowledging true and proven incidents positive effects of State concealed-carry law stats, and the John Lott Study on Handgun Violence. The liberal politicians, [Chicago Democrats] choose to take the eay way out, blameing an inanimate object, instead doing some work and coming up with better solutions, like much of the rest of the country. But what do you expect from the most corrupt local government in the United States? It's easier to steal, sell jobs, and plant flower in taxpayer-paid for planters. Very sorry for the tragedy of our officers sons death, but it's really time for some fresh ideas and not the same old Chicago Democrat dogma. It hasn't ever worked, wont work, and never will work in the future. It's just the product of our narrow-minded Chicago Mayor and his corrupt cohorts, who just talk and talk, because it's easier than to have to come up with an intelligent solution.

Someday We Will Meet In Heaven

To Blair, We will meet again!

Someday we will meet in heaven,
that I will meet you there, is true.
But until that heavenly meeting,
I must find a way to get thru.
For now I try with my poetry.
I write of my memories of you.
Of days and years together,
so many more than just a few.

I remember your childhood days.
How fast you crawled to make us run.
You then giggled as we chased you,
as faster you went, while having fun.
Then there was the time you did climb,
upon a wall that was taller than you.
You giggled then, as I froze with fear,
then hugging you I scolded you too.

Such a daring mischievous child.
You had no fear at all in you.
Always happy and so friendly.
These things I recall, all so true.
So many times with my little girl,
that I treasure like pure gold.
Of a blond curly haired tot,
whom I wish I could still hold.

Yes, we will meet in heaven,
but for this, I must now wait.
Even though the years are long,
this promise I now do make.
That others will know of you,
thru the words I do here write.
For memories will get me thru,
and make my days so very bright

I could care less if the Catholic church tucked Adolph Hitler into bed every night if the safety of my child is at stake. WHO is collecting SSI at the greatest numbers PER CAPITA and killing at the greatest numbers (8 times that of whites). Typical liberal rhetoric, substantiated by twisted statistics and warped logic.
The animals he refers to are the ones gun each other down in cold blood daily on the streets of Chicago. They are the ones who have many children by many partners with no regard to how they will be supported. The animals are the ones who allow dope dealing and prostitution to be practiced on their blocks. The animals are the people who choose to live like it is the stone age in the year 2007. You figure out who fits this mold and you will have your answer.

Somebody e-mail that dumb fuck Mitchell and tell her that unsolved homicides never close. Even when the victims are black, I mean African-American.

Hasn't this total waste of molecules used up all her racist rants. I mean as far as her editors are concerned?

Columnists should be like web pages. Advertiser's can attach ads to her column and see how many hits they get. It's easy to spot her bullshit racism based on her by-lines. Pass up her column. Adverstisers lose out. Sun-Times shit cans her.

Her sophmoric, uninformed op-ed pieces belong in the Defender where they can read her column and exclaim UH-hummm and oKAY.

IS IT JUST ME OR DOES IT SEEM LIKE BEVERLY IS GOING TO BLOW? THERE IS SOME SERIOUS RACIAL TENSION BUILDING UP. THIS COULD BE MARQUETTE PARK 30 YEARS LATER.

What are you an idiot? 103rd and Lowe and Julian High School are not Beverly.

If this piece of crap who killed the Holt kid had been shot and killed by the police a day earlier while armed with the gun he used on the bus we'd be seeing his graduation picture on the news and his momma with Ekls talking about suing the police and Mitchell's column about police out of control.

Hey black community. That's why the working police make street stops and "harass" your sons, nephews, cousins and uncles. Because some of them are armed and willing to kill. Nobody hs a cartoon "think" baloon over their heads saying "I have a gun." Let the police do their job. Stop bitching and, beleive it or not, less people will die.

OT- Want to be sick, go to zillow.com and type in your address,or neighborhood it will tell you what your home is worth right now and is very accurate. Basically, we are all screwed when it comes to our property values.

You must not live here. Beverly is one of this cities best neighborhoods. Not too many apartments but beautiful well kept homes owned by good working people.

To the officer and father who called me a pathetic liberal.....Read it again. I also have to send my kids to a Catholic School, because CPS is a cesspool. I was not excusing the shitbags behavior for a minute, but I am saying that the apple does not fall far from the tree. I can't wait to read about the dirt bag mother who raised him.(or didn't)
My heart goes out to the Holt family too.
Off topic but have to say it...I'm elated that Sean Hannity and Glen Beck have taken Sharpton to task. It's about time someone did.

I'm out here in D.C. for the memorial and it's no different here; a high speed chase from Prince Georges County, Md into D.C. resulting in a crash and death of an offender, wanted for a shooting,, gun found in car also. The mother is on tv saying she believed it is illegal for the police to chase for that!... not my child was wrong for failing to stop....lol different shity, same story....

May angles guide him on a safe journey to heaven. May he find peace and rest in the arms of our Lord. And may the memory of your beloved son be eternal.

I really wish that Mike Royko were here to write about some of this crap. Seems no one in the media has the guts to address what they know is bs and give the police a thumbs up for doing a good job.

I can't agree with the people saying that things might have been different if the Holt family sent their child to a private school. If they sent Blair to Morgan Park Academy or a Catholic High School he would still need to ride the bus. CPS high schools are totally screwed up but the root of this crime lies with the offender and his family. My prayers go out to Ronnie and his family.

To 05/12/07 @ 0:321 am. Hey you useless asshole. Kids are on buses, on the publicway, no matter what school they attend. This was a good kid, in a bad situation, which I might remind you can happen to anyone (Virginia Tech.) He tried to help his fellow students. What an insensitive prick you are. I guess you and your whole family live in a glass bubble where nothing can happen to them. GOD BLESS THE HOLT FAMILY.

This is not a Cps thing its a Cta problem? or crime problem?? No this was directly related to that school. My heart goes out, but spend the money. lose the 120,000. worth of parents, automobiles and spend it on the only treasure we have, our kids education and safety.

The Rev.' never blame the cause of the problem. The b.s. single parent, guns, etc.

We are on the 3rd. generation of people with their hands out and their kids on the street at 0200 hrs.

Just blame the police J.J. and fat Al.

Not to speak bad about what happened to their son, but Holt's parents are letting the media use them as they see fit.

I guess the media is trying to show that they are not anti police by covering this event but they are really using the parents and the parents do not realize they are being used.

Too bad

Yea, but Mike Royko's kid (grown son)was caught holding up a bank on the northwest side. An off-duty cop working as security foiled the attempt. Wonder what Royko would have written up about that, or would he have kept mum.
