We have people all over the Department, PO's, Sergeants, Lieutenants, even a Captain or two who read the site regularly. We've been told in strictest confidence that any number of exempts don't have filters on their computers and check us out daily. For some, it's almost required reading.
A number of recent comments have been asking about the new Weapon order. And coincidentally, we've been in contact with some people who actually know things, so we thought we'd help fan the flames of Rumorville:

- First up, the order has been approved by the chain of command and awaits the final signature - the lame duck Superintendent. Who knows what the hold up is at that end, but that's the rumor we've got. Bet on or about 01 June
- Approved weapons include the Glock, the Springfield XD and the S&W M&P's in multiple calibers (9mm, .40 and .45)
- From what we've heard, this is the first time in history anyone wishing to switch to one of these guns as their primary weapon will be permitted to do so. Instead of qualifying with the wheel gun you came on with and then the semi auto you carry most days, you can switch to this gun and declare it your primary forever.
- HOWEVER, anyone who declares this as their primary weapon, you will be required to attend some sort of re-training or transition course on your own time and at your own expense. No word how it will be run and we heard the Ranges are completely in the dark on it, too.
Run with it. Start saving money - these guns ain't cheap.

The NYPD is saddled with the 9 mm. Trust us on this. Go for the Glock .40S&W caliber or even the .45.
This was long overdue. A Glock 21 in .45 ACP with night sights is a great choice for officers who understand and practice good firearm safety.
Great firepower with the best round will save officer's lives.

They really need to do away with shotguns. Really, shoot people with a fowling piece? The 1870's are long over. Its time to get modern. MP5's? With shot, the shotgun is only good for 25yds. And if you plan to use slugs, then get a rifle.

You dont have to take my word for it though, just do your homework and talk to the gun vendors and ask who did all of the hard work! There are still a few cops out here who are able to see through the smoke and mirror routine purpoted by the "connected" few on this department that dont even have the balls to give credit where it is rightfully due. Again, Mike Keefe (now in 016)thanks to you, we have more choices as to what we can carry!

In thirty plus years, I have carried many different guns- authorized and unautorized; semi-autos and revolvers. All of you people who think that some new fancy gun will be an improvement are truely childish and silly.
You only neeed one well placed shot. You must consistently train with whatever weapopn(s) you use. If you do not train and received updated training, a damn fifty caliber machine gun will be useless.
Pistols are defensive, close range weapons. If you can't hit them close range, all the high capacuity clips in the world will do you no good.
Train, get more training, and to you cheap bastards out there- pay for it yourself. it is training that keeps you smart, sharp, and alive. The guns are only tools- like hammers, pliers, and saws- useless if you do not know what to do with them.

Speak for yourself. Shotguns are a great tool. Taking down an attack dog or blowing out the hinges on a door can be done a lot easier with a 12 guage instead of using a simple semi-auto pistol. MP5 would be great but come on, do you honestly think this ball-less dept would put em in every district for use, even after extensive training sessions at the range.
Glock has a lot of great qualities but 1 flaw. You have to squeeze the trigger to break it down for cleaning and knowing how many idiots we have on this department, a lot of coppers will shoot themselves, others or put a hole in the wall.

I will stick to my Sig 220, by far the most reliable and accurate .45 ever made(Fact). Please rent a Glock and shoot it before you buy it! It has a strange grip angle and it is difficult to shoot. The trigger is horrible as well, feels like your finger gets pinched after every round. The Springfield feels very comfortable and has got rave reviews, it's also much cheaper than a Sig. As far as the S&W M&P series goes, no thanks! you couldn't pay me to trust a Smith and Wesson Semi Auto.

The S&W M/P is a great gun comes in 9,40 & 45. They have them at area 3 & 5 ask the guys and they will let you try them out.

I fired the Springfield and found it to be light and could of easily fired a thousand rounds without getting hand fatigue.
But there are problems.
First, it has a grip security feature. Useless. If you want a safety feature get the S&W 45. Dump the mag and it wont fire.
Second, lots of parts.
That just means more shit that can malfunction.
Third and most important, it's made in some third world shit box counrty.
Stick with the people who know how to make weapons that kill with reliability. The Germans and Americans. Glock or S&W.

According to ABC 7 the defense rested without a closing argument in the case of HOWARD MORGAN claiming they had proved his innocence. He denied firing 17 shots at officers in the 10th District. Officers shot him 25 times, actually only about 13 times, the rest of the holes were exit wounds from that piss-poor sub-sonic 9mm ammo we had to use.
I was on the crime scene; the Crime Lab had to send out for more of those yellow plastic shell casing markers. They ran out at 60.
If there ever was a case for more frequent and realistic firearms training this is it. If there ever was a reason for shooting a .45 this is it. If you stay with a 9mm, get the +P rounds that we now can carry and what ever you carry, practice, practice, practice.

Why do we sit here and just take it in like business as usual. Why do we, the membership, allow ourselves to be screwed. Mayor Daley has not set aside enough affordable housing, not that I would even consider moving to areas his sets aside. Give me a break. I would need to hire one of my fellow coppers to provide extra security. I not talking moving 40 or miles away just to get out of the city. It's pretty much a Glock with a grip safety, made in Croatia.
I know several people who own and carry them. No complaints of any kind.
Personally, I think the height of the slide makes it LOOK kind of awkward. I'll stick with my Glocks, but I wouldn't discourage someone from buying one due to the 100% positive reviews from people I know who have them.

Your full of shit! Dan Bartoli is the one who helped make this thing happen! He did all the work for years gathering data on these guns & how P.O.s shot with them. Get it right asshole. Also Plotke did nothing. He's only there because of his shooting.

Most times, just the sight of the shotgun was enough of a squelch factor, but for the idiot that was still nuts enough not to recognize, the KLA-CHUNK factor brought peace to the circumstances. It was great.

But one time, we left the station so fast on afternoons on a BUSY summer day in the early 70's, we forgot to load the darn thing. However, the sight of the shotgun quieted the mess going on at 51st Federal and Ali's Trolley in a heart beat. We were lucky in that we couldn't of used it if we had to, but just the sight and sound of a well handled 12 guage was all that was needed. 5-Frank, King, Robert one time. Case closed. BRING BACK THE SHOTGUNS.

If it is the same gun as in all the other Bond movies it is a Walther PPK in 7.62mm, probably the most overrated handgun in the world. It was the James Bond gun, as recommended to Ian Flemming by British Secret Service Armorer Geoffrey Boothroyd. It was also the gun Hitler used to commit suicide. I used to have one and I would never use one now except as an expensive paperweight.
This gun is not on the list of permitted weapons, there are a few that are almost as small and much better. A good choice is the S&W 3953 in 9mm.
The 7.62 or .380 is no man stopper.
The Walther PPK or PP or PPKS has a very small ejector port and very tight tolerances and is thus prone to jam. The slide can easily rip open the web of your hand if you are not careful.
Leave that gun to the movies and stay safe.

Walther P99, I believe. It's a good gun according to most reports I've heard. A friend has one, which I've shot a bit. His is reliable and accurate
I'm not big on D/A only autos, but it's got the least objectionable pull of any I've seen so far.
Personally, I'll stick with my Glocks.
Mike Keefe who sat in roll call and bragged about the fact that he flunked over 50% of the people who went to qualify? He was so proud of himself. Now if he said he helped people who flunked relax and re-qualify after a few pointers in the techniques I wouldn't mind. This guy is a stroke and I wouldn't be surprised if he wrote that last post himself. Being a gun nut does not = getting the new order written although he will tell you he wrote it himself.

Gave away my position???? Hey asshole we are the police not some special forces squad on a night ambush. Lets see pull up in a marked car, radios,uniforms lights sirens but my shotgun gave away my position. Tell me are you one of those idiots that holds his pistol and flashlight in both hands in front of your body like some "super tactical expert" taught you? Now that gives me a nice target and gives me your position. 75% of the range guys are fuckin strokes and are full of themselves mainly a/5. then a couple months back to a/3 range on days (not sure if there is a third watch there) for qualification and the two guys there were great the one said ok you got to watch a movie, came in told us grab a target and go in we shot the course and he gave us are new rounds and that was it. no ego's no fuckin war stories (of course it was other peoples stories) said have a good and safe day and that was it. short and sweet no bullshit. two years ago i went to a/5 and ran into the asswipe dp and another stroke.
I'm all about decent fire power, but sweet Jesus, a bunch of fucking DORKS on this thread.

Maybe you should learn how to shoot,maybe just maybe he WAS actually looking out for you(and the guy or gal that you work with)shit if you cant shoot why would someone want to work with you..??
All the range guys I have delt with are jags. I went to qualify last month at a/3 and a little guy and a fat guy were working they told me I would have to come back the range was closed was being fixed...When I heard them shooting fifteen minutes bfore I came down!!
So can we carry Glocks right now?

While I might not run out to trade in my duty weapon, if I had the choice when I came on I probably would have gone with a 40. There is nothing wrong with having more choices. This is a good thing people. If you want to change fine, if not, fine. But whatever you have, be proficient with it. Remember, when the shit hits the fan, its your training that will save your life. All macho rhetoric aside, the academy gave you the basic skills, if you dont expand on them or sharpen them then you have nobody to blame but yourself if your not prepared. How many of you are considering spending $850 or so on a new weapon but haven't spent a couple hours and an extra $30 at a range on your own time?
A good next step towards officer safety would be approval of tasers for patrol.
Stay safe and watch out for each other.

Han Solos "Blaster" was a Mauser C96,the "Broomhandle" as they call it.The original Star Wars guns were based off of real German and British military weapons.
Me,im a lightsaber kind of guy,a far more elegant weapon.

If you can't pass the Cpd shooting course you don't need to be on the job! A paper target doesn't shoot back. If you feel you need to relax before you shoot, quit and do something else. The range doesn't fail you, you fail yourself! How relaxed are you going to be when the shit hits the fan!
