No Money for Maintenance?

You'd think that in a city like Chicago, where there are more movable bridges than in just about any other city on the planet, someone would make sure that they operated properly so as not to disrupt life too much. You'd be wrong:
  • Traffic was detoured downtown temporarily Saturday after two bridges became stuck in the upright position. The first bridge got stuck on Congress Parkway Saturday morning. Chicago police say it appears an electrical short caused the problem. Workers were able to lower it manually about two hours later. A similar problem occurred Saturday afternoon at the Wells Street bridge. It affected passengers on the CTA Brown Line
So why are we writing about this? Because it's symptomatic of everything that's wrong with the City Administration and how it runs things. Things like maintenance budgets are ignored for a quick buck here and there. Things like actually having a fleet of pool cars for the Police Department are neglected and steered into SUV's for politically connected individuals. Things like actually funding a pension are ignored so the money can be spent on making construction companies rich and political donations flowing.

It's been like this for years and we're finally starting to see some of the cans that were kicked down the road coming to the fore.

lets look at new police facilities with daley tied friends! 35th street floors are all tilted, doors in winter will not close and air blows right through them. Desks are propped up to keep drawers from falling out because of floor "tilt a Whirl". plumbing is in bad shape! Shower had huge leak right into medical section but it was repaired using large buckets to catch water!

Anyone remember who the construction manager was from 35th and Michigan, CPD Headquarters?

It was Bill Corbett,

former CPD Commander, former head of Fleet Management, former raider on States Attorney Ed Hanrahan's squad that took out Fred Hampton and Mark Clark back in 1969 and former construction manager of the 911 Center.

Corbett was "dumped" from the construction manager job at the 911 center becauseof extensive "problems" and cost over runs at the 911 center.

Except he wasn't really "dumped." He was moved laterally to the CPD Headquarters construction manager position.

He did such a bad job at managing construction at the 911 center that they punished him with several more years of employment at top salary managing the CPD Headquarters at 35th and Michigan.

Hey, how come the newspapers never managed to get a hold of any of this? Where were those crack investgative reporters?

You can look it up.

Isn't it true that Maggie Daley's maiden name is Corbett? You don't think there was a connection, do you? Nah, not in this city.

I hope all these fucking bridges that rise and lower get fucking destroyed. I'm so glad they're fixing that bottle neck bridge on North ave. Now they just need to do the same thing on the bridges on Division. The traffic jams there can be solved so easily by getting rid of those fucking ancient bridges and making them two lanes like the rest of the street.

Has anyone noticed that there are more construction zones, torn-up streets and highways, etc. around Chicago, with rersulting traffic jams pretty much everywhere, causing MASSIVE waste of gasoline, but City Hall has NO plan for gas conservation although preaching that we the taxpayers should cut back on our driving and use of gas, and, as usual, the politicians do nothing to help. It's always , we should do this to conserve, we should do that. What have they done? Little if anything. Cant even build some overpasses around the city so everyone doesn't have to sit and wait for all the trains blocking intersections. But thats OK, because we have a fuckin "Bean" in the Park, and a bunch of other stupid shit, like traffic circles, who half the people in the city don't even know how to go around properly. Hopefully someone will head-on me in one soon, and I'll survive to sue the livin shit out of the City. Then I can get out of this socialist city once and for all.

Lets look at the bigger picture. We can just look at the city budget and see little things in which we believe money is diverted from..i.e. batteries, PDT's, O.T. vehicles.

If we can see this in just the Police Dept what about other departments in the city.

In my opinion, money in being withheld to fund other things mainly the 2016 Olymipic Bid.
Watch for the building boom to happen shortly after the gaming laws change.

We will again be duped by the Gov, Mayor and state law makes telling us that this is good for the schools, and the state coffers. Statement will be made that our kingdom needs casinos to keep our dollars from going across the border to Indiana, and to attract more trade show business to City.

I know this is a stretch from topic of maintenance but if you think about it... its kinda like saving up for a family vacation just divert money from here and there and put it another account

Daley's wife is originally from Pittsburg. I don't think that she is related to Bill Corbett.
