Attendence Ribbon Fallout

- RE: SSC ATTENDANCE RIBBON
RESPONSES FROM CFE TAGMEN
July 2007
Unfortunately, my input is not involved in the CPD ribbons. When a new one is issued I scramble to make/find it to sell aftermarket. Also, unfortunately, when I realized the similarity it crossed my mind that may not be a good idea, but I didn't say anything. Not that I would even have been able to, really. Reaching the person who makes these decisions is next to impossible. Perhaps, had we a better rapport, I might have mentioned this similarity and they might have changed it.
Hindsight, you know. The first "uprising" I received was an email yesterday. Then later an officer had called to order nametags and I asked him about this and he said to look on Second City.
I left a message for the person in the department that I sometimes have contact with, although he's out until July 23rd or so. I could try to contact someone above him, for what it's worth. In fact I will just send a fax and see what happens.
Also, for the record, I have not sold any of these. I just put it on the site when it was approved but do not have stock of them. I don't think the department has issued them yet either so there's a good possibility this can be changed.
Again, we never intended to insult or disrespect any Veteran, we're just one of the "little guys" trying to make a living, the Department, so far, does not buy these from us either, we sell them aftermarket. Please accept our apologies for unintended disrespect.
Sincerely, Dona & Mike, CFE-Tagman.com
Hats off to Dona and Mike from CFE-Tagman.com for realizing what R&D hasn't realized so far.

That is pretty cool that they have realized that a mistake has been made. I WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE that no person intentionally would use a Viet Nam Service Medals colors to represent such a undeserving medal (by comparison) on the CPD. I want to believe that this is a BIG UNINTENTIONAL MISTAKE.
I've bought from them several times, and they are both professional and courteous. A class act.
Has anybody seen the "Funeral Home Fails Faimilies", article... Well, on scene Sgt. Clancy and P.O. Cosgrove controlled the whole situation before it happened to get out of hand. They controlled the grieving families before news affairs arrived on scene in a big flurry. These two outstanding gentlemen took pride of the situation and handled it in complete professional attire....
AT LEAST THE COMPANY ADMITTED THEIR ERROR, WHY DOESN'T THE CPD DO LIKEWISE?
Would someone care to translate just what the heck 05:29 AM is babbling about or how it relates to the "Attendance Ribbon Fallout" discussion?
There was an order by CPD authorizing this ribbon June 2007
on that order somebody of exempt rank signature has to be on it....might be a good place to start.
This is the problem when you have people in those Ivory Tower offices who have not been in the military, have no sence of history or tradition, haven't been on the street for more than a minute and never really were the police.
Like a wise man, or woman said about this job, "There's too much college, not enough high school."
Stay safe

I believe one was helpful-- but did the other one ask for the helicopter and have Riis pond drained just to be sure???
I'd rather get cup cake for perfect attendance.
...Plus a bunch of civiians dreaming up ways to get score with the POs. They don't know crap about the police, the deaprtment or the military.
I refuse to wear anything I have. I guess its because I am discouraged by the way things are.
SCC,
I think the branch or division in charge of heraldry was either an USAF Vet or someone who really loves the US Military award and decs. Looking at some of the ribbons on the website (CFE-Tagman.com) listed in your blog, I came across several ribbons that are exact duplicates to those used by the military, most specifically the USAF.
Hopefully I am wrong, and maybe CPD was already aware of this. But crap… I am about to retire from the USAF and I need a job. Maybe I can design ribbons for the CPD. Just wanted to let you know.
CAPS = United Nations Medal*
Department Commendation = PUC*
Outside Recognition = Air Force Org Excellence Award
Police Medal = Air Medal
Problem Solving = Combat Readiness
Arnold Mireles Special Partnership = Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon
Special Commendation = Air Force Commendation Medal
Top Gun = Small Arms Expert Ribbon
* meant they are not service specific
Here is a link to verify this.

Being that it was a Westside funeral Home hopefully they were attired in Pimpsuits& canes, so the peoples could rest assured that their bizness wuz handled properly.
A new idea for the ribbon....a band-aid or a thermomoter with the red circle/slash (no smoking, ghostbusters etc sign)...

People wonder why this job is so difficult, attitudes like the one above contribute to it.
I like to bash the softballs at HQ's as much as the next guy, but other than this latest incident with the Vietnam Service Medal, do you really think a vet cares that the CAPS ribbon is the same as the United Nations Medal? Do you expect the city to commission a ribbon every time they plan on doing this? Having over 20 years of military service, I can't say that it bothers me using the ribbons of lesser significance for other awards. It would obviously be disrespectful to use military awards of valor for attendance ribbons or the top gun award, but other than that, no problem.
hats off to donna and mike is right! my old man along with a good number of officers are vietnam veterans. i would never want to offend any of them. this ribbon design signifies them and them only. f*ckin' cpd
Don't blame CFE Tagman. They only sell what the department approves and have no choice in the matter.
Why do these awards have to be ribbons? Whay not hang tags like the fitness and appearence awards? Really seems like desk jockeys looking to spruce up their uniforms because they have no street time.
What is after market purpse? It is like putting a fake degree on a wall. You have it but havnt earned it
Who cares? Awards for crap? Just pay me a check and keep your pins and ribbons. At my old job good work got you a bonus.
attenance ribbon?
traffic stiop of the month?
top gun?
is this real?
what is the traffic stop and top gun for?
what about the "brother of the month award?

Mary Kay Hegarty is the Director of the Research & Development Division. Responsible for researching and issuing all Department orders.
Anne Egan is the Assistant Deputy Superintendent who is Hegarty's boss. Both are close Phil protégés.
Number 1 - Hegarty should have never been put in this job. No pure police experience. Period - Stop. Singular qualification being her husband worked with Phil years ago.
Number 2 - Egan is an egocentric feminist who for some unknown reason was promoted well beyond her ability. Poster child for the “Peter Principle.”
This Sir, answers your question. It basically becomes an equation of the hopelessly blind leading the interminably stupid. Or it may be a simple as Phil wanting another ribbon for his collection.
