For the Reading Disabled

We apologize while we engage in a bit of gratuitous troll baiting. It's a noble pastime here at SCC, usually isolated to the comments sections of back and forth banter, but sometimes, it makes the front page.

Incident #1:
  • After all our people did for her, she's willing to disregard the established precedent of the contract and strip away 662 officers' presumption of innocence and drag them through the shit.
    --------------------------------
This comment really surprises me, SCC. The woman had her husband & mother murdered in their own home! "all our people did for her" was what they should have done for anyone in that situation...in other words, they did their jobs! That doesn't merit blanket pro-police rulings from her bench.
That's right - the CPD did their jobs. And if that job happened to be supporting the Feebs, they did it well. At no point did we advocate "blanket pro-police rulings" from any judge, least of all her. But maybe, just maybe, the fact that a psycho located her home by whatever means he did, might make her slightly aware of the dangers posed by being a part of the criminal justice system - be it a judge, attorney or police officer. And to have officers names distributed in public wily-nily for merely having unsubstantiated complaints lodged against them is bad precedent no matter what. (By the way, if the trolls haven't noticed, threats and wishes of harm against Federal judges are being routinely deleted - knock it off)

Incident #2:
  • SCC, You are so far off the mark it isn't even funny. It's more than apparent you know one if not all of the officers involved personally. You cherry pick what is seen in the video. What is shown;1) one of the officers sweeping the balls off the pool table. That's provocation.

Provocation? Where? There is no sound. You (and we) have NO idea what was said that might have provoked anyone in that bar. Removing the balls might be a response - or it might be a smart move to remove possible weapons. We don't know! That's the point.

    2) The Sgt is seen escorting Powers back into the bar.Sgt exits and grabs one off the plaintiffs by the throat slamming him against the wall. AT NO TIME WAS THE SGT BEING PROVOKED.

Again, no sound = no knowledge of a provocation. For all we know, the guy outside was calling for reinforcements. This is a simple "he-said, he-said" in any other jurisdiction.

3)If Powers was so distraught and had to be disarmed why would his supervisor allow him to return to the bar?

WE DON'T KNOW!! How many times do we have to repeat it? And unless the Sergeant was going to throw Powers in handcuffs, how would you propose he stop him? OC? Taser? Slap him around?

4)Are you as a Chicago Police Officer per GO allowed to consume Alcohol while armed& off -duty? Then plead mutal combatants when engaged in an altercation?

As far as we know, there is no General Order. There are the Rules and Regulations that state an officer shall not be intoxicated in public, nor consume any alcoholic beverages in uniform. Someone who actually passed a promotional exam can let us know if we're mistaken.

The tragedy is 3 POs from the 012th district were fired for doing their job meanwhile the officers who instigated this situation remain on the payroll.

We're still trying to track down this rumor. How can these guys under criminal charges, and the SOS guys, and Abbate still be on the job or suspended without pay with no charges filed before the Police Board yet, and somehow, in under 4 months since this story broke, three people from 012 lost their jobs over this? We can't find anyone who knows who these 3 people are, what these 3 people did and how these 3 people got fired and nothing has made the papers. What's up with that?

Special Agents and local law enforcement officers refer to Judge Lefkow as "JUDGE LETGO."

And she wonders why there are murderers on the street.

What comes around goes around.
By freeing all of the criminals, especially drug dealers in your past, you are not part of the problem, you are the problem!
You are also a softball for actually still staying at your job and not retiring. Now every side of the laws thinks you are shit. Your goal must be to make everyone as miserable as you currently are in your life.

That is all at this time.

I probably shouldn't even post here after I was called a "pussy" on the Jefferson Tap topic but I will. I get I'm a masochist. I better seek professional help.

Anyway, when Munoz said this:

Chicago needs a police superintendent who will "shake up the status quo," realign police beats"....he was absolutely correct. Everything you quoted after that is problematic. I like to use big words that will provoke people to call me a "pussy".

What this department needs is an outsider to run it. John Timoney, former top uniformed cop in New York, and top cop in Philly and Miami is the best police "leader" in the country. Which is why he didn't even apply to be Superintendent.

Daley is comfortable with mediocrity and is more concerned with finding a "yes Mr. Mayor" man than someone who will actually try to institute change.

There's a reason the crime rate dropped faster and deeper in New York than Chicago. One of the big reasons was Timoney.

Oh well. My money is that Williams will be the next superintendent. I could be wrong and it may be Grau. The guy from NYPD.........fagetabouit.

I can't believe people took the sweeping of the balls as a sign of a threat. The coppers in the bar were showing good judgement in getting rid of possible weapons to be used, as far as the sgt throwing the one guy up against the wall, it looks bad I agree but again with no sound how are we to know the guy on the phone wasn't saying "I'm gonna call some more of my friends and we'll kick your ass." a stretch? Maybe, but maybe not. the fight off camera? You know the one the officers are charged for as per the reporter of the piece? Well that was off camera, so it's a he said he said thing... Too funny. I haven't seen her since she landed in 007 as a PPO. The years have not been kind. A truly impressive sergeant of police. Maybe if she spent a little less time on the dance pole her husband wouldn't have Mary Mitchell writing columns about him getting beat up by an 11 year old.

Former Chicago Ald. Arenda Troutman hung out a virtual for-sale sign at her 20th Ward office, demanding cash payoffs from developers and others in return for her support on zoning changes, building permits and the sale of city-owned real estate, a new federal indictment charged Wednesday.

Troutman originally was charged in January with taking bribes to grease one development in her ward. Wednesday's indictment added a half dozen new allegations of shakedowns between early 2002 and early 2007. In addition, Steven Boone, a former Troutman aide, and South Side businessman Vincent Gilbert were indicted for the first time in the case.

Tom Belfiore doesn't have a chance. He is the token outsider. We used to always have a token white guy as a finalist. Now the token white guy has morphed into the token outsider. Of course, Belfiore can fill both roles - token outsider and token white guy.

Daley will never bring in a person who is not beholden to him or others in this corrupt cesspool of a metropolis. This is sad because Belfiore is by far the most qualified candidate. He has training in combating police corruption but also in confronting the real problem...terrorism.

Yes folks, those pesky Muslim extremists are not going away. They are increasing their base and looking to attack Western targets. For those of you who are geographically challenged, that includes Chicago. Our next superintendant must be up to combating terrorism. Quite frankly, if we end up under Islamic rule, gang banging and alleged police brutality would be the least of our problems.

Open your eyes folks...we are already in World War III. Our enemy is not confined to governments or borders. Our enemy includes peasants living in caves and tents who truly feel that we are satan and wan't nothing but to kill us. You can't rationalize with such radicals. You can't make peace with them either. The next big attack is coming. It sucks to say but it is true.

God bless President Bush. He has weathered the liberal media's attacks and has also fended off the moronic left's Congressional leaders who advocate a cut and run position in Iraq. We need to be in Iraq. We need to win in Iraq. We need to put the fear of God into those people. Only then, through war, will we achieve peace.

Many officers that I have spoken with truly do not believe that such a threat is out there. Wake up! Do a little research. There is evil in this world and it is gunning for us!!!

Now that I've stated my position, let me reiterate that Daley will end up choosing Williams or Grau. They both seem like decent fellows. But they are no different that any other exempt on this job. They owe somebody who owes somebody else. The bullshit with promotional exams, district personnel raiding, smoke and mirror routines, unjustified felony prosecutions of police officers, etc. will never go away when an insider is chosen to be the next boss.

We need Belfiore to make an impact on this department. Quite frankly, even if he ends up being less than expected, it wouldn't matter because morale on this job is at an all time low. Belfiore may be able to lead us out of the morass.

We are in a city dominated by guys like Huberman, Trotter, Stroger, Daley, etc. These corrupt nepotism pushers will never look out for the citizen's interest. A change must be made. Write the mayor a letter. Tell him to choose Belfiore. Granted, Daley can't string a sentence together but I think he, or at least his aides, can read.

Be safe my friends.

They also just saw the sgt wave off the onduty that came to the call.

Even one guy got his jacket caught in the door of a squad that was fleeing, pleading for them to stay.

Those dudes will get hammered by this. The video is more damming than anything.

I would also suggest with the gun control laws in Chicago working, that CPD be disarmed, and work like the police do in London. 40 years of gun control is working as the mayor says. Cops dont need guns in a gun free town. With this next gunbuyback, there will be no need for cops, nor civilians to be armed.

We all can live together in peace and harmony.

Murderers are on the street because the police are not allowed to police like before. No shit Scherlock! The OLD SCHOOL approach while some may think was barbaric, actually, kept the crime down. CAPS don't work with gangs buddy. I mean who in their right mind would act up in front of a copper if he was going to be slugged and booked for doing so? LAPD has the right idea.Their officers are proactive. We are more reactive. We keep letting go offenders who batter us. Felony Review is laughable. LAPD is solid. They still police when the time is needed. They still rule the streets with the iron fist. Gangbangers in Chicago would never last in that hardened environment. We are our own worst enemy. CPD is afraid to be tough on crime. We are getting the liberal's version of law enforcement utopia. In my 19 plus years of serving 015, I have witnessed the end of the Chicago POLICE OFFICER as myself and other oldtimers can attest. That is why murderers are on the street your Honor. The rule on drinking is no intoxication, on or off duty. Mattering on who the supervisor is, intoxication can have a different definition. Some say it is when you can smell it on someone's breath, some say it is when you cannot do the field sobriety tests, and some say it is when you have one sip of a drink. It just matters on who starts the ball rolling. Once it is rolling, though, it will not stop. Once the number is obtained, a penalty will be handed out, and rather severe in most cases.

Re: sweeping the pool balls off the table:

In certain scenarios, with coin-operated pool tables, this could be a preventative move.

However, even if you sweep all the balls, there's still the cue ball.
And all the pool cue sticks.

And all the beer glasses and bottles, chairs and wall decorations. You want improvised weapons, you're surrounded by them.
Give me a break. This incident of sweeping the pool balls was clearly playground behavior by a drunken cop who should have left for home long before this crap even started.

That being said, we have concerns about how the actions recorded on video will be portrayed. But again, we've made no judgments. We weren't there and there is no audio by which to make any sort of judgment or form any opinion - which was our point in the first place.

Once again, the learning disabled are allowed access to a keyboard and the internet. Someone stop this goof.

Once again, THERE IS NO AUDIO. We made no judgment, but merely speculated as to what occurred. Trust us on this, the officers' attorneys are looking at any possible scenario that can be interpreted from this, including and not limited to invisible aliens, CIA brain waves and lord knows what else.

If we wanted to spin it, trust us, we'd say they were 100% in the right. As it is, anyone with one eye and half a brain can spot two dozen instances of reasonable doubt in this video.

The problem with the rule about being intoxicated on or off duty is that 3/4's of the Dept., including Sup. and most of brass are guilty of violation at one time or another. The rest of Dept. is guilty for not turning the drunks in. This is obviously a stupid rule, and unenforceible.

The other problem with intoxication rule is that it is only enforced when something goes wrong. This is unfair and unbalanced. Also, if you're connected or exempt, look at Radke and Rodriguez and even Martin to name a few, you don't have to worry.

Rules and Regs haven't been chnaged in over 20 years, but the police board is affraid to do it because Daley won't allow it.

Oh, and by the way, the Sup. and all Deputies should be brought up on charges for using profanity, the Mayor too since he is the ad hoc superintendent of the Dept.

Too bad Powers' co workers didn't get him out of that bar and get him home when he got upset about having his first Xmas without his Dad. Maybe all of this could have been avoided. Maybe that's what a real friend would have done.

Lefkow's husband was a twerp. He was 4-11 and weighed 75 pounds. She was pushing for him to be a judge.

They thought Hale and the Supremicists were after her. It was just a guy with a messed up face!

She doesn't have the life experience to be a judge.

WHen judges are attacked, it is nothing more than an extension of people attacking authority and law enforcement. We lock people up for processing and they are out in hours to be SOL'ed. These judges however sometimes literally ruin peoples' lives.

So sometimes the payback can be a motherjumper.

This whole story simply highlights a fact that the media doesn't cover, and most civilians don't understand: It's the courts, stupid!

The court is a forum utterly divorced from reality. The court personnel - judges, ASA's, and attorneys - are insulated from reality and operate in their own little worlds.

Look at Lefko. Her family was butchered and the police bent over backwards to track down the killer(s) - primarily because she was a sitting judge. Not that she owes the CPD anything but you would have thunk that she'd at least had a twinge of conscience before ordering the release of all police officers with complaint register numbers.

Uh no. Not her and not only does this show where the disconnect is in our legal system, it also shows that pro-police judges are a rare breed indeed.

There's no real way to fight this except to VOTE NO to every sitting judge, in every election (except the few that enforce the law.)

On my way to work today down Pulaski and see an early 90's minivan with sirens blaring, blue lights on the visors as well as strobes on the headlights and tail lights then it passes me up and I notice what I believe was an F.O.P. medallion smack in the middle of the plates. If this is a covert vehicle then why the F.O.P. medallion? (albeit I could be wrong, just saw some kind of medallion on the plate) Please tell me there was some purpose for this guy to be driving that way, and not just some retard late to work. If you were late to work or just didn't want to sit in traffic, you sir are a dickhead......

You didn't identify north or south, but here goes some info for you. South side, several districts, "police" in unmarkeds pulling over women, asking for digits, gangbangers taking cash. They are NOT police. They are ususally armed. Even been known to steal a M-plate to make themselves look more legit. Watch out for these guys, they are fu--king dangerous and a lot of the PO's either don't know it's going on, or are too new to understand the dangers. We have been told to curb any unmarkeds that we don't recognize in our district...but I don't know if all watches have been advised. Stay safe!

To help the Chicago Police get proper training, they should rotate one district per month thru Iraq for street training. After all these cops all talk tough, so lets see how tough.

7/12/2007 07:35:00 AM

---------------------
You are soft as baby shit! What does Iraq have to do with the police??? Our soldiers are trained soldiers, we are trained police. They do teh job of a soldier with barvery and honor, we are asked to do the same.

Not sure about you, but I think CPD should automatically be hiring these vets from Iraq - they actually have something to offer this department, unlike the whiny little college graduates we are getting. They know how to be MEN, do the job, not bad mouth their supervisors and they actually get the job done.

College obviously DOES NOT prepare boys and girls to become police officers. They have no dedication, discipline, pride or spirit!

Are you all really supporting these goofs that started a fight at Jefferson tap ??? The PoPo's !
So, even if these businessman were pricks, you all think the cops can start a fight because someone "MAY" have said something. Isn't this what we say to the public when we are on this kind of call? YOU ARE ALL SOFTBALLS !
They messed up and screwed up big time. If they didn't have a badge and gun, do you think they would of been so tough ? Putting the pool balls away is a good off-duty move? So, you are admitting you think they premeditated their acts by first hiding the balls because some idiots said something," Alledgedly" and the cops felt they would first take weapons away?? Why not take yourselves out of the mix altogether!
You all must be part of the 80% that doesn't have a clue on this job. Think people!
Your Police powers have nothing to do with your ego and the cops were clearly the ones who provoked the altercation further by clearing the pooltable. C'mon, what would you have done if they did this to you... And you're the Police!? Shootout !? Tough guy complex will get you every time. One day, you may even go up against someone who gives a rats ass as to whether you are the Police or not, and can fight better than you, and shoot straighter than you. Then what?
You'll shit yourself, call a 10-1 (off-duty, which would be really smart') and step all over yourself trying to cover your tracks! Get your shit together!

I can see that some of this blog's readers are taking the side of the "business men" and assuming that after a hard day's work in the futures pit they just wanted to hang out, have a few cocktails and discuss 13th century andalusian poetry.

The bars in the Loop and South Loop (Cactus Lounge...etc) are frequented by a fairly rough crowd, especially after 10pm. And I can personally attest that "anger management" issues are a common thread amongst the traders. I was in the office at Pacific Trading when a runner brought up his cards (pit transaction receipts) to his boss. The boss noticed a typo on one of them - it was a mistake that was going to cost the boss a few grand. The boss started screaming at the runner, slapped the remaining cards out of his hands, and when the kid knelt down to pick them up, the boss kicked the guy in the face in a fit of rage. The kid ended up with a bloody nose. Thankfully.

But the story only goes to show you that the "business men" are hardly Altar Boys.

Again this Jefferson Tap story only accentuates the media sniping of Police officers. The only thing those coppers did wrong was NOT arresting the greaseballs who started it all.

There's a problem if someone is so Mentally unstable he has to be disarmed. The Department had knowledge of this and should have made him a Behavioral Alert Immediately.

That's the Irony, Old Man Powers was in charge of that program and his criteria of placing POs on it consisted nothing more than an Ouija Board & Magic 8 Ball.

this is just all the more reason to watch closely what you do on and off duty, and keep the mental attitude that you will be fucked over big-time, even for a small mistake, because you are Chicago P.D. If you are not related to a really big boss, politician, etc; you are definately expendable, there is a 2 -tier justice system here in Crook County, one for the connected, one for the not-connected. Help us pleas Mr. Fitzgerald. This is not the way it's supposed to be in America. Our forefathers didn't die for this politically correct form of freedom and individual rights. They fought against regimes run like Chicago and Crook County.

That's why Paramedics are stationed in the pit. These guys get grippers all the time. The medics should just put a foot on their necks and watch them fade to black...
