The police department is investigating her charges.

I am confused, the report says she was beaten by an OFF-DUTY cop while in police custody? Was this off duty cop hanging around processing rooms so he could beat up prisoners. That post makes no sense.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A case challenging the ban on private handgun ownership in the U.S. capital could lead to the first ruling by the Supreme Court since 1939 on the rights of Americans to bear arms.
Officials from the District of Columbia government this week asked the high court to agree the city's 31-year-old law banning private possession of handguns is constitutional.
Supporters and opponents of the law said the case could have far-reaching legal and political importance in affecting the nation's gun laws.
D.C. officials said a U.S. appeals court was wrong in its precedent-setting ruling in March that broadly interpreted an individual's constitutional right under the Second Amendment to bear arms, and that concluded the law violated those rights.
The Second Amendment says, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
City lawyers have argued the amendment guarantees the right to bear arms only for members of a militia, like today's National Guard, and not for individuals.
But the appeals court adopted the position that the Bush administration has advocated previously -- that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms.
"This has the potential to be the most significant ruling ever on the Second Amendment," said Paul Helmke, president of Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. He said the case also could be significant in the political debate leading up to next year's elections.
The Supreme Court has not ruled on the scope of the Second Amendment since a decision 68 years ago when it upheld a federal gun control law but did not definitively resolve the constitutional issue.
In appealing to the Supreme Court, District of Columbia Attorney General Linda Singer said the March ruling marked the first time a federal appeals court has invoked the Second Amendment to strike down a gun-control law.
NO VIOLATION OF RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS
"A law that bans handguns but permits private ownership of rifles and shotguns does not deprive anyone of the right to keep and bear arms, however that right is construed," she said.
Singer said the nation's three largest cities -- New York, Chicago and Los Angeles -- have laws banning handguns or tightly regulating their possession and use, that states have adopted various measures and a number of nations have banned handguns or grant permits in only exceptional cases.
"Whatever right the Second Amendment guarantees, it does not require the district to stand by while its citizens die," she said.
Six residents brought the challenge to the city's law, one of the strictest in the nation. One of their lawyers, Robert Levy of the Cato Institute, said they also would urge the Supreme Court to review the case.
He said those challenging the law seek a broader ruling from the Supreme Court, one that could apply nationwide and not just in Washington.
If the justices agree to decide the case, arguments most likely would be scheduled for next year, with a ruling expected by the end of June.

A Chicago Police officer has pleaded guilty to attempted intimidation -- a misdemeanor -- and agreed to resign over allegations he pulled over two women on the Northwest Side and asked them to expose their breasts to avoid traffic tickets.
Michael Allegretti was sentenced to probation in the case.
Allegretti, 45, was an officer in the Albany Park District when he pulled over a 24-year-old woman in November 2004. He allegedly asked if she would cheat on her boyfriend and promised to give her a break if she flashed her breasts. At the police station she complied, but Allegretti gave her tickets anyway and she was released, authorities said.
The woman filed a complaint with the Chicago Police Department. Allegretti remained on the job.

In regards to Ekl and others of his ilk. You must remember that when a lawyer sues the city on behalf of someone over violation of civil rights, the plaintiff gets the whole amount and the lawyer submits their very high bill to the city over and above that settlement. That $650,000 settlement in a justified shooting mentioned on this site a few days ago. The lawyer probably got at least the same amount for his fee. What a racket, since the city does not fight these cases, all he has to do is file some papers, subpoena whatever is there to be had, make a speech for the cameras and show a photo or video.

Having been caught on the day of the large storm in the suburbs a couple of weeks ago I observed something that is simple but essential for CHICAGO.
The suburbs at all intersections are equiped with fold down stop signs.I know it doesn't sound like much but it made traffic slow down and did not require an officer to stand out and direct traffic,thus freeing them up to respond to emergency's.
I'm sure the city will cry poor about the cost of these signs, but in the event of a natural or man made disaster the ability of traffic to ebb and flow naturally without 2 PO'S tied to an intersection just makes sense.
Intersections that require more attn of course could be manned, as in trying to evacuate a lg area,but the neighborhoods could be activated by combo of Cpd or STRT & San.
It would be nice to have that option,you could manufacture these signs in house with the help of Chicago Public High Schools as extra credit or as a form of discipline in their shop classes.
It might seem like a great idea come JAN or FEB if we lose power again like seems to be the trend every year.

Hire a private attorney to cross this woman. It is apparent to me after reviewing her interviews that there will be gaping holes in her testimony if she is crossed. obtain medical records that will include a b.a.c. which is mandatory in order for medical staff to treat her correctly.sounds to me that she didn't "consider" a lawsuit until she discovered what the victim did for a living which is why she was coached by her attorney into saying
that the incident occurred in police custody and not at the time of the altercation, giving the city liability. For future reference to police spokespersons a simple "the office of professional standards is conducting an investigation and at this time we have NO COMMENT." The plaintiff attorney only gets his fee's paid if the case goes to trial and the verdict is in his favor. If the case is settled out of court the attorney is entitled to his 30-40% cut of the settlement his fee's are not paid by the city.

I been in 007 and on the southside about as long as you. the clowns I've seen go up got not an once of business being there. I mean look at how many former desk and lock up people are up there now. Or how many are up there with less than 3 years on. I guess its all about making things more colorfull up there rather than getting work done.
Don't get me wrong, I know some good coppers up there that know their shit. but those days are long gone in 007 and you know it. Its all about those pointless wolf pack missions and countless contact cards and B.S. dispersals in the level 2 doc or hot spot.

It says 3rd watch, not tact. You have to look no further than the notorious couple that now work separately on 3rd watch but may have worked Tact at one time or another. The same couple who have constantly been involved in b.s. One officer was known to race to every call of a boxcar burglary in progress.
And since a certain member of Bt. 923 3rd watch left the district, the number of fake foot chases involving the box cars decreased dramatically!!!

Rumor has it I.A.D. & Cook County States Attorney Investigators were at the Rail Road police station this morning, (reviewing surveillance videos) and it appears tact and 3rd watch involved.
