Watch out if you work out at Bally's:

Someone is working the Bally's over at Cumberland and Foster really hard. Twice in the past few weeks, a male black has been waved through the security gate when he tells the staff he forgot something in the locker room or he's working with the construction crew. He then goes into the locker room, pops a locker or two, and takes off with the keys and wallet of the victim and steals their car right out of the lot.
You'd think that Bally's would have their staff people checking ID's instead of waving jagoff through. But since lots of cops work out there and some might be leaving their guns in the lockers, I thought I'd give you and your readers a heads up.

Since Bally's doesn't want to secure their premises, a word to the wise - watch what you leave lying around in the locker room. We've had guns disappearing at the airport with alarming regularity. Anyone know if they've had guns vanishing at Bally's along with the cars?

Never leave your gun in the locker anywhere.
This scam has been going on for years. They did this to a friend of mine at a health club several years ago. They opened his locker surreptitiously and only removed one credit card from his wallet.
He was unaware of this until he received the bill and had all kinds of crazy charges on it,including the purchase of a tropical bird. He works out daily at the club and determined what occurred. The management also related that it is a frequent problem there.
fyi it's been happening at the xsport on north and wells and the one in oak lawn to.....your safer leaving it home
I only bring my membership card and car keys with me to the club, I have the keys on me while working out and only put them in the locker while I shower just in case of this.
I locked up a jag about 2 months ago who hit the ballys in Calumet City and the one just off the Dan Ryan. A traffic stop that turned into a foot chase. He had wallets, credit/debt cards,passports, and the vehicle was taken from Ballys on the same day, just wasn't in the system yet. Dude had a Felony warrant and was on parole. I notified our dicks and Cal City P.D. Our dicks blew me off, Cal City said they would come out to talk to him. IDOC said they wouldn't violate his parole, even though he was charge with resisting and Battery ( I wasn't hurt enough for them),plus the felony warrant. ASA office wanted to C.I. the case, I told them to reject it and give me a name since I'm not a dick and am not going to do there job for them. Went to court on the resisting/ battery, dude plead out to 40 days. Looks like the dicks should be looking at this guy!!!!

I know a few readers of your web site love to use the racist label about what you allow to print but I have to vent here a little. In my 20+ years on this job I can't recall a white criminal who wakes up in the morning to go to a black neighborhood or black business establishments to commit crimes. But everyday I see black criminals who travel a great distance from their own home and neighborhood to commit crimes in white neighborhoods, white businesses and against white people walking down their own streets.
Then we have to hear why is the white person so racist or so "against" the black person. Well just maybe so many white people who have crimes committed against them are at the hands of the black man. No matter how brutal the crime, no matter how senseless, you never see a black person or so called black "spokesman" say anything in regards to these incidents.
So tired of hearing how the black person has no jobs, no money, no pride or black rage. I have known many of very poor whites in my life. Funny they aren't running around doing drive bys, sticks up and shooting people or leaving their neighborhoods to commit crimes over in Roseland or Englewood.
And I can tell you right now. If some poor white kid working for a few bucks an hour at Ballys would challenge this guy, the offender would be screaming that he is a racist a-hole and the manager would be running over there to give the guy a free lifetime membership for such a racist deed committed by the worker.
Just maybe if the black community would band together as they do when an armed offender is shot by the police and have some comments when "one of their own" is caught doing wrong, more respect could be paid to that community.
In the old days, if they caught that guy in the locker room, he would of been beaten to a pulp in the alley behind Ballys. And that kind of justice put some fear into some of these guys. But today, lets face it, even if he was caught, arrested and charge. What would he get, his 14th try at probation? Give me a break.
A guy who loses his wallet, car keys and money.... taking days to get new ID's, having to get a new set of keys to the car (if the guy doesn't take the car) and probably a soon to victim of identity fraud...
Its a fricken joke!
And this City and society make people even afraid to report a person of a different color to 911. I tell my family and friends... you see wrong or suspicious.... CALL 911 no matter what!

That place has been Ground Zero for gym thefts for over 20 years now. No ONE should leave anything of value in those lockers, and no copper should leave their weapon in ANY gym locker ANYWHERE!
After all this time, you'd think they'd have come up with some type of security measure after all the lockers hits, and all the monthly fess they are collecting from people who never go.

The Bally's on Cumberland Avenue has been the "place" to get ripped off. This is nothing new. For years the lockers have been broken into by staff, members and walk in thieves. I've been in 016 20 years now and this issue has been addressed by every commander. However, Bally's does not give a shit. They give the police lip service, but thats all.
Keep in mind, our new stations have a work out room, minus the bimbo's butts to gauk at. At least you don't have to worry about your pistola getting lifted.
Don't generate an RD number. Stay away from Bally's.
I was watching the news the other day about that fisherman that was pushed to his death by a white male. On every newscast, the description included a white male, big ears, and lots of tats.
Let’s rewind to thousands of incidents all over this city which include serial rapists, murderers, and so on and so forth. Guess what the news descriptions are: a male, white t shirt, blue jeans. It’s ridiculous especially when they know what the race is.
I wish they would keep it consistent. All they are doing is driving the wedge deeper among the races.
Work out at your district or at the academy gym. No offenders that you locked up there and you don't have to worry about your gun or wallet ending up missing. Not much to look at but if you are there to work out who cares.
The first time the guy was caught within hours. Too bad Area 4 dicks blew it off and Area 5 too. Charged with a M. Go look at the video board in 016. SAME OFFENDER. Too bad his address is a church parking lot.
White people travel to the ghetto to get their dope, and I am sure that is far away, but the crime benefits the dealer (not hurting him one bit).

Because if it was some white hyoe doing it at the Ballys at 87th and the Dan Ryan, YOU would be the first one to say it was a WHITE offender.
I think every news article should include what race the offender is. Then maybe the truth could be told and people wouldn't fall for the "LETS BE P.C. AND EVERYONE IS EQUAL!" Shit!
There is security at my Bally's, some guys are good, walking up and down the lockers, keeping an eye out etc. Others are sleeping, reading the paper, talking on the cell and so forth.
A bigger problem would be the huge amount of patrons that I have seen that don't put locks on their lockers. How is the even the most pro-active security guard or employee supposed to tell if someone is stealing if the locker is already open? I saw one guy come in dressed in his business suit, put all his stuff including laptop into the locker with no lock. That fault lies with the person not safeguarding their valueables properly.
As far as the gun in the locker, that is just dumb. In the 20+ years I have been a Bally's member thefts have been an endemic problem, and I'll bet it is the same at other institutions also. Be smart and don't bring anything of value in with you, leave it in the car, and keep your keys on you.

That's the beauty of that Bally's location, dump the POS in Catherine Woods, HE CERTAINLY WON'T BE MISSED.
i belong to s & s gym--115th and homan-next door to bourbon street. yes leo's old gym. the gym has turned into a shithole. u have to have ur gun on u while working out since there's nothing but thugs in there now. plus they play nothing but rap music. smart move selling the place, leo. hopefully they'll go outta business soon

I work out at the Bally's on Howard and Clark and never bring my weapon/star or anything that I can't live without. FYI... always use the lockers that are near the entrance that people coming and going always see..never in the back or around corners.
Oh by the way, while we're on the topic of black men behaving badly, you southsiders should stay away from Cooper's Hawk Winery. Don't say I didn't warn you.

All you need to keep in shape is a weight bench in you basement or garage and a good pair of running shoes
I've never put anything of value, especially my gun, into a locker at a gym. I would like to think that others would do the same, but then I think of some of the people I work with ..........
The amenities at the academy are scheduled for public use during evenings in the very near future. Don't get to comfortable there.
This first posting is exactly what happened to me at this Bally's in 1994!! Scumbag took a Visa Gold card from the back of my wallet and went on a shopping spree in the Western suburbs. The kicker was he left my Star and gun along. He know exactly what he was doing!
What happened with the Cheetah Clubs?
12:29 a.m. What's your source on this? I'm calling B.S on that one, no way they spent all that money to remodel that part of the building to let the public ruin. We as cops should have that honor first.

As a matter of fact yes a Badge and Gun have been stolen in the past, I'm not going to mention names, however, abt. 4 yrs. ago, my partner, remind you this is before the new stations were built, went to ballys before work, was working third watch and wanted to get a work out before work, both his badge and gun were stolen, of course the cameras had nothing and he got I believe it was like 5 days for that.

You couldnt be more wrong. You're "that guy" who only works his chest and arms. Your back is the most important part of your muscular make-up. You only need a bench and a smith machine really if you dont have someone to work out with. But a bench only is not enough.
I've run into bangers I've arrested in Ballys. No real problem, but they get a gauge on how much strength you have. They might see what you can handle and then feel or not feel like calling you out some time later down the road.
