Self Defense for the Masses?
- Those who would do away with Washington's near-total ban on handguns will tell you point-blank their next target: Chicago.
Gun-rights advocates scored a stunning success earlier this year when a three-judge panel of a federal appeals court in Washington swept aside the District of Columbia's ban on owning handguns, which had been in place since 1976.
On Tuesday, the district government appealed the decision to the Supreme Court. If the court takes the case, as many observers believe it will, it could place Chicago's handgun ban, as well as similar laws nationwide, in jeopardy.
Finally, with a conservative court in session, we may finally get the definitive answer on whether the Second Amendment is an individual liberty guaranteed by the Constitution (as most scholars contend) or a "collective" right, as Brady supporters claim, even though no other "collective" rights exist anywhere in the Bill of Rights.
We're betting on the first interpretation. No wonder Jesse and Phleger and Richie are all uptight about guns lately - looks like everyone will be getting one shortly.

The Bill of Rights are affirmatively INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS.
They are what make this nation GREAT.
Unfortuantely for the liberals the 2nd Amendment is as important and protected as the other nine.
Every True American should join the NRA.
But the Pfleger billboards tell ME to close the spiget of guns in Chicago.
Without him, who will take on the evil NRA?
God I can't wait to see Daley red as a beet fuming on tv when his ban is found unconstitutional!
Chicago will be a SAFER place when the citizens are allowed to protect themselves from the animals.
Read "More Guns, Less Crime" by John Lott (Yale professor).
fine !
it's rather difficult to intimidate an armed citizen.
the thugs of this city will be at a loss........who is armed-who is not. who is a wolf and who is a sheep?
many thugs in the past have missjudged an off duty policeman for a defenseless victim and been bitten by the wolf.
i can't wait till the good people of this city start contributing to the bodycount.
time to tame the wild west and south sides.
I hope they drop the city ban. Only assholes without guns out here are the good people.
Da Mayor better beef up the staff at streets and san, there will be a lot of garbage lying dead in the gutters of his crime free city.
The first ten amendments to The Constitution are commonly called "The Bill of Rights". Government HAS NO RIGHTS. Government (any) has POWERS. Therefore, by its very title, the 2nd amendment refers to an individual right.
An armed society is a polite society
These two M-Fr's would get really pissed off if Illinois had a concealed carried law on the books.
Thank God for Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito!

I tell my 15 yo son this all the time. If you put a loaded gun and a plugged in space heater on a table and nobody touched them, 100 out of 100 times the space heater causes a problem first.
“Those that pound their swords into plowshares will plow the land for those that don’t!”
The Founding Fathers envisioned the need for the citizens of this Great Nation to be armed. If a tyrannical and oppressive government should rise up against the people we have a Constitutional right to defend Our Consitutional Rights.
America the Free, the Proud and the Armed!!!
This is all well and good, until LEOs get orders from their masters to confiscate firearms from the otherwise law abiding. See New Orleans during Katrina and that little affair with California Highway Patrol taking guns from those protecting their property after the NPD left them to fend for themselves.
I am not trolling here, I really would like to know: how many of you would refuse a gun confiscaton order from Hizzoner? What would come first? The Bill of Rights, or your pension?
