Violent Weekend
Channel 5 reports that at least 15 people were killed across the entire Chicagoland area this weekend. Their definition of weekend is kind of liberal though - Friday afternoon until Monday night. Still, that's a bunch of dead people. And the wounded number a few dozen more.
Channel 7 on the other hand reports on a dozen killings citywide and then starts the spin:

"We need to get the guns," said Tio Hardiman of the anti-violence organization CeaseFire. "If we make sure we talk to both sides."
The larger than usual number of homicides was counted on the first weekend following the layoffs of about 125 outreach workers for CeaseFire. A $6.2 million cut in the new Illinois state budget left CeaseFire without adequate funding to keep those workers.
"What would have happened if we could have had our violence interrupters out there?" said Rev. Robin Hood. "This program needs to get back started tonight."
Yup, CeaseFire could have prevented all those deaths, and by golly, we better get all the guns off the street, too. You know, if these "former" gang bangers and "reverends" were so gung ho on saving lives and preventing violence, wouldn't they be out there regardless of whether they were being paid? Wouldn't they be holding vigils and maybe running off their posters and bumper stickers out-of-pocket? Or maybe their congregations could chip in a few bucks?
Now we hear that CeaseFire is going to ask the mayor to come up with the $6.5 million it takes to run this sham of a campaign - the same mayor with a $220 million hole in his budget. Any bets?

Let's try getting the thugs away from the guns. After all, guns don't kill people, people kill people. People who haven't an inkling of what it means to be a productive member of a society.

I go to the badlands to ensure some semblance of normalicy for people who don't seem to want it. There is no difference between the west side and Bagdhad. Each environment doesn't necessarily promote the violence that occurrs on a daily basis. But they do little to prevent it. And we just keep on fighting the good fight for ungrateful, pathetic souls.

I am thinking that getting the guns out of the gangbangers hands, or giving sentences which would make them think twice about carrying/shooting might help, but it won't help the 2 stabbing victims from 005 on sunday night, both of whom I understand are a coppers family members. MAYBE getting parents/community/clergy/politicians to speak out on the violence between neighbors/family/gangs ect might work also. All it does is legitimize criminals and their criminal behavior. How in the world can a civilized society have an outreach program to keep thugs from killing one another, unless the solution is to lock them up? If two mob crews from the Chicago outfit were involved, the outrage would be to the moon, and the solution would be to arrest them.
But here in the politically correct bullshit landscape that is Chicago, CeaseFire is promoted as a solution when in reality it's a rip off. A $6.5 million dollar gov. program that pays "former" gang members to stop violence (but never really stopped any), gets cancelled and then the gangs that these "former" gang members deal with go on a shooting spree over the weekend? Well it seems like someone might be a little upset about losing the free money and with the help of some contacts, who also got a piece of the pie, are trying their best to make it seem like this program is necessary. A lot of the Ceasefire people are not "former" gangbangers and "reverends". They are social workers; many are idealistic like the Peace Corps. They have families here, and mortgages and car payments. This is a job to them and they do it without a gun or body armor. It must be hard to gage their success, there is no balance sheet of crime stats, arrests, curfew, Zone and DOC missions. If they prevent a crime or a death only God knows. I hope they get their funding back, rather them than Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.

Van crash snarls Stevenson, kills 2

A van with 14 temporary workers returning home from a day job at a Lemont golf course flipped on its side, killing two people and snarling the Stevenson Expressway for most of Monday afternoon.
Illinois State Police said the crash occurred about 12:15 p.m. near County Line Road in Burr Ridge and may have been caused by wheel or suspension failure on the 1999 van.
"We think it was some kind of mechanical malfunction that caused [the driver] to lose control and crash," said Trooper Delila Huerta.
The van was not speeding, police said.
Elizabeth Soriano, 17, who was riding in the van with her mother, sister and a cousin, died in the accident. Also killed was Fernando Hernandez, 27, officials said. Police said passengers in the van told them the man had a wife and a child in Mexico.
Both victims lived in Chicago, State Police Master Sgt. Kris Melvin said.
The van was filled with workers from a Chicago temporary agency, police said.
The van's owner, who was not affiliated with the labor agency, had lent the van for the day to the man who died in the crash, police said.
Huerta said everyone in the van was from Chicago's Little Village neighborhood.
Police said Karina Salgado, 27, was driving the van and was ticketed for driving without a license. Salgado and three passengers in the van were not legal immigrants and were detained by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency Monday night, officials said.
Salgado told police the van's wheels began to wobble shortly after it entered the expressway from Illinois Highway 83, and when she tried the brakes, they failed. The van veered from the center lane across the inside lane and careened off the guardrail. The van skidded sideways before flipping onto its side, police said.
Salgado and a front-seat passenger wore seat belts, but passengers told police that seat belts in the back did not work, Huerta said.
The 12 survivors were not seriously injured.

Can anybody give me a good reason to explain why we shut down an interstate highway for hours to "reconstruct" an accident, thus inconveniencing thousands of motorists (as well as their families and employers)? It's nothing but traffic. The insurance companies and the lawyers have the big money and other resources. Let them find a way to do it without burdening all of us. Does anybody have an estimate on how much fuel was wasted?
This cease fire stuff seems like one big extortion scam. "former" gangmembers are given money to convince current gamngmembers not to commit agg batts and homicides. Got to wonder how much of that money makes its way back to the gang. Gots to.

Hey, I usually jog 4 or 5 days a week. I put in about 20 miles a week in the summer, but it goes up to about 30 in the winter. I love running in the cold. I can only think of 2 other guys on my watch that jog. Maybe we do need more joggers.
Just a thought off the top of my head here. If this Operation Outreach works so well, and if it's the "community's" aim to rid itself of guns, violence, drugs, and the killing of "innocent" victims, then why don't all the reverends, do-gooders, liberal media freaks, and the bleeding hearts do it for free? Why don't they march, talk, cajole, intercede, and make a diference on their own? Why do we need to pay theym 6 million dollars for what they should do as their civic duty? If they really mean what they say, then they should volunteer to rid their world of the hate, injustice, killing, and guns and save the taxpayers 6.2 mil in the process. CBS 2 Northwest Indiana Bureau Chief Pamela Jones reports it all started with an alleged slap against men and women in uniform at a Dunkin’ Donuts.
The rumor was forwarded through an email tagged as if it came from an employee at Crown Point High School.
The message says a school secretary has a nephew who went to the Dunkin' Donuts on Main Street for coffee and was refused service because he's in the military.
The email claims the owner of the store said, “You are killing my countrymen and I will not serve you.”
