Stop Already
- An Air Force B-52 bomber carrying six cruise missiles armed with nuclear warheads flew across the central United States last week after the nuclear weapons were mistakenly attached to the plane's wing, defense officials said Wednesday.
The Stratofortress bomber, based at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., was flying a dozen advanced cruise missiles to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., on Aug. 30. But crews inadvertently loaded half of them with nuclear warheads attached.
The Air Force quickly launched an investigation that is expected to take several weeks. The munitions squadron commander was relieved of his duties, and crews involved with the mistaken load have been temporarily decertified for handling munitions, one official said.
Actually, we're glad that the Air Force remembers how to load these things up since the Cold War ended years ago.
This seems to be a series of paper work errors blown out of proportion. The bombs were never out of USAF control. The bombs were never out of the continental United States. They weren't about to be launched or detonated or anything remotely sinister. And for years and years, we had dozens of these things airborne every single minute of every single day operating out of Grand Forks without incident.
And with Russia promising to resume long range bomber flights down through the Atlantic shipping corridor, maybe a bunch of live nukes orbiting over Alaska, Canada and the North Pole is a good thing.

Bush just didn't give the "GO" codes for the south and west sides.....
Flying around with armed nuclear bombs is nothing compared to the gas bombs my partner lets loose in the squad car after a hearty mexican meal! Talk about toxic and deadly! Ola Lay! I think he soley responsible for the current global warming!

When the balloon goes up is a phrase used to imply impending trouble. This relates to the use of observation balloons in the first World War. The sight of such a balloon going up nearly always resulted in a barrage of shells following soon after. The expression was re-inforced during WWII when the hoisting of barrage balloons was part of the preparations for an air raid.
Observation balloons also used during the American Civil War for spotting (correcting) artillery barrages and detecting troop movement on the battlefield. Any use of the phrase prior to WW1?

The balloon, a colloquial term used of any event, e.g. "What time does the balloon go up?" the speaker meaning, "What time is the parade?"

This expression comes from World War I, when British artillery sent up a balloon to notify gunners to open fire, this visual signal being more reliable than courier or telephone. It was soon transferred to signal other kinds of beginning. [1915]

When the baloon goes up was a cold war expression for when actual combat begins.
Russia isn't promising, they already have begun flying. China is quietly building up their miltary with profits from the junk they flood our markets with. Clinton destroyed our miltary. We won't be prepared to defend ourselves when China & Russia decide to claim North America as their own. Pray every day a democrat doesn't become president
ITS MY FAULT I USE TO BE IN THE AIR FORCE. I GAVE THE COMMAND AND THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO DO A BOMBING PRACTICE ON BT2534. OH WELL I GOT CAUGHT AGAIN ,GLAD I AM NOT A COMMMANDER.

01:10:00am,
Back when I was in the Army in the early 70's, the term "when the balloon goes up" meant that a war has just started and we (the troops) were going to be in it and in deep shit, so to speak. We always had to train for the day when "the balloon goes up".
General Jack Ripper says: First 35th St. and then DNC Headquarters and there's nothing you can do about it now! God Bless us and our precious bodily fluids.
"When balloon goes up" is an old 005th District term.
I simply ment that the Sgt. was colecting paper at a named location.
Example; The balloon is up at the bat cave. Thats all you need to know. Go F-Troop!

ANOTHER BRAVO AND A VET NO LESS
The story was not nukes that flew around the country. It is that nukes flew around the country and the air force DID NOT know they were aboard. What would have happened if they lost them by crashing or some mechanical failure. The air force would have shit a brick if they had found out what was really on them.
Does anybody remember what happened in spain in the 1960's ??
One more thing the national democratic party is dead. It was killed by vietnam and 1964 civil rights act. 1968 was the year. The coup de grace was right after Tet.

Off Subject. It is nice that Mary Mitchell has had her way with the "White U of C Police Officer" in "Full body gear" when she does not have all the facts. Valet didn't have any credidentials authorizing use of U of C Property let alone CTA. Valet fired on the spot by Head of Security when it was found that valet did not have any written authorization to "Valet" FREE U of C Parking. Valet provided 2 year old "permit" from City of Chicago for different address. Too bad Mary Mitchell did not check all of facts before she "Race Baited" again. She checked her CTA source but didn't bother to ask officer on scene nor contact U of C for confirmation. Could it be Mary Mitchell has it out for U of C for different incident. Why didn't Mary MItchell indicate that second officer on scene was black officer nor that no one was cited or towed? Or that "White female in full body gear" told man in golf cart to make sure "THAT NO ONE GOT TOWED?" 75% of officer working at U of C are off duty officers from CPD. Why was it that 2nd City cop did not address incident at all when brought to their attention via scc@blah blah blah?
Nuclear weapons do not activate when the plane that is carrying them crashes. Even if they dropped them they would not have detonated. There are numerous procedures, authentication codes and other safeguards in place to prevent accidental detonation. The media and the public think they know everything, but they know nothing.
