SCC Exclusive - New Wheels

As we all know, there are about zero pool cars available citywide right now. Fleet can't perform regular maintenance to keep cars up and running as it is. As inefficient as Motor Maintenance was back in the day, who knew that Fleet Management would be 10 times worse?

We've been noticing a couple of comments recently regarding a "concept vehicle" being proposed by Fleet. We were recently contacted via e-mail regarding this idea and received a number of drawings. Here's a sampling:

Evidently, this thing is built on some sort of modular design which might make body work easier, but the off the shelf price is rumored to be $100,000 per. We can't see that flying in these "we've got no money" pleadings from City Hall.

But it's still an amusing effort by Fleet.

Ok,..this is what I heard....
Knowing that we lead the world and Buttzville,NJ (real town btw) in cutting edge technology,R&D has been conducting super dooper, surreptitious, clandestine, covert, and hush hush meetings to develope a state of the art pulled pork sandwwich,no really,PPC(pedal patrol car)! Yep, not kidding here folks. This newly designed vehicle will implement innovative and cost cutting equipment such as, Solar powered PDT's. Each PPC will be equipped with a power booster in the form of a hamster running on a metal spin wheel that will increase the speed to a staggering 10 mph, ok, 15,if your going down hill.

Other options, the city is looking to install would be
Riot rope: yep, officers would be issued roller skates. In the case of a catastrophic cataclysmic event, such as the closing of your local Krispy Kreme, officers would don their skates, and hold onto the PPC via the rope, and be towed, in order to be immediately deployed to the scene of the disturbance.

In order to save on the purchase of radio batteries, all officers will be issued paper cups along with a roll of kite string. If the need should arise to communicate with each other, the officers will attach the string to each end of the cup.

In addition, this highly advanced, vehicle will have a water proof, storage compartment to store ample bibles and rosaries to hand out to officers at the scene of a disturbance that turns nasty and have unruly crowds. Officers will be instructed to hold hands with the crowd and say a minimum of two decades, one of which will be a 6 decade titled,"the mystery of honoring a gun wielding thug"

Fleet pisses away millions of dollars through bogus contracts for parts etc. etc. with Napa Auto parts. Example; $100 for a oil change on a squad car? You had better beleive it! Time/labor/ electrical guy and mechcanic to check when it's on the rack for bad brakes, burned bulbs and so on. What takes 20 minutes, Napa includes everybody to fatten up the bill. God only knows what they charge for brakes and other parts. SOMEBODY SHOULD REALLY LOOK AT THIS CONTRACT. Why do you think several other suppliers want this contract. It truely is the "pot 'o gold" at the end of the rainbow.

As a side note; the men and women (civilians) used to complain about MM when CPD ran it. Ever since Fleet took over, they are sorry they did and say it is one of the most fucked up agencies the city has.

Perhaps this inspector general for the city might get off his ass and check into this. The outcome might be that we (the po's) can get some decent vehicles providing the rank and file stop banging them up and treat the car as if it was your personal car.

Perhaps those at fleet who make the specs for vehicle contracts should stop takeing money from dealers (ED Ebertish & Co.). Even when investigated by OMI these thiefs still survive.

NOT HARD VERY SIMPLE...OH AND STOP GIVING BOSSES THE NEWEST CARS WITH MORE LIGHTS THEN TRAFFIC CARS JUST SO THEY CAN SIT IN FRONT OF THEIR HOUSE OR TAKE THE KIDS TO SCHOOL QUICKER. My son was a Chicago Officer in 011 and told me his squad had no defrosters for the windows in the winter nor heat-broken. To keep the window clear on the inside you had to scrape off the frost with your scraper and to keep warm you dressed in long underware. Then, at his funeral, his district sent a car, brand new. I said it's about time you guys got a new car-the answer I got was that it was borrowed from another district and had to be back soon. Spend the money on fixing what you have. I was a command officer in a Suburban town, we took care of the guys when it came to the squads as we always believed that the car was your home for 8 hours. Be safe out there.

For the south-siders:
One of our brothers in blue just re-opened the Snackville Junction at 92nd & Kedzie. It had been closed by the previous owners, but a K9 officer and his brother bought it, cleaned it up, and it just came back to life this past weekend. I went in, off-duty, with my family, and when they noticed the CPD Police Memorial shirt, asked if I was the police, and gave a decent discount on the whole family order.

For those of you who grew up going to the old one on Western, and now this one, let's show some support for our partner.

And, before the accusations fly...No. I am not an any way affiliated with the place. I just want to see it stick around as my kisd grow up.

Actually you're mistaken. I don't think it has anything to do with new hires. I think it has to do with ASSHOLES who don't realize that this car is your office for 8+ hours a day and that it's not a trash receptacle for your coffee cups, sunflower seeds, used snot rags, etc. Officers just plain and flat out beat on the cars. I've heard officers in my district actually say, "I ain't payin' for this car, so why not beat on it?", which is ridiculous. They've installed new pdts in most of the cars in my district within the last 2 years and most of them already are missing the rubber off of the some of the keys. Oh, and how does one shatter the rearview mirror in a squad car??? Please tell me. Sorry, you can't blame everything on those hair gel police.

The city should try a vehicle take home pilot program. I do not have a problem with fleet, they have leveled the playing field with the exempts. No longer do they get the decked out cars such as whitewalls, pin stripes, nice rims, etc...
Fleet has finally uprgraded the mars lights since the 80's, placed metal protectors on the rear windows to protect them from prisoners, plastic rear seats to secure the prisoners, and makes it easier to search the rear of the squad for contraband, They will attempt to repair smaller problems bfore they grow into larger problems. not like the old motor maintenance who would duck tape everything. The greatest improvement fleet has done is to the tact cars, now they have emegency equipment that makes the vehicles visible when conducting traffic stops or responding to priority 1 calls.
Lets face it people the only one we have to blame is ourselves, officers treat these vehicles like shit. From being to lazy to take out their trash at the end of the tour or getting a simple car wash, to lazy to down the vehicle when a simple repair is needed, to lazy to replace the hupcap on the rim when finishing reparing a flat or placing the spare back where it belongs, to writng in the interior, poking holes, picking the steering wheel to the metal frame, the list can go on and on. So dont blame fleet they dont drive our vehicles, you jaggoffs know who you are with its not my car mentality that make our vehicles not worthy for duty.
If they would implement a take home pilot it would cost more money but save even more money in the long run. Officers would feel a sense of ownership and take care of the vehiclle alot better knowing that whatever time and investment they put into the vehicle the next jaggoff on the other watch wont fuck it us, thus not needing to purchase or shit can vehicles due to wear and tear.

Only one. In 20 words or less tell the taxpayers who pay your/our salary how "merit" promotions; in public safety positions such as police and fire make Chicago a safer city? After 9/11 this should be a no-brainer. We are our own worse enemy. Stand up and be counted. Or lay down and be mounted.

Though driving skills are an important factor when responding to a call, I think the new technology of people yakking on cell phones, TV’s/DVD’s, Playstations in the car, and people not giving too sh*t’s about emergency vehicles plays a major roll in the amount of accidents. Almost forgot about the large amount of illegal, drunk/drugged, should-be-deported aliens driving around too. Isss OK!?

It’s not about the hair gel or college education, it’s a way different driving environment compared from the 60’s to now.

Here is my story about Fleet Services. Fuse blue in the PDT while i was on my for gas so i stopped at an area garge and asked the guy at the desk in a white shirt who i assumed was the shop forman if he had any fuses for the PDT's I gave him the fuse and he looked at me like i had a monkey on my head juggling. He they gave me a big speach about how he had to special order the fuse. As i was walking out i stopped and asked a michanic who was working on a car if he had a PDT fuse. He said sure and pulled out a large box filled with fuses and gave me a couple. The shop forman must have seen me asking the michanic so he came out just as i was leaving and said "hey if you need the fuse right away you can go into the bone jard and dig though the old cars." I told him no and for him to special order the fuse. Its been 5 months and every once and a while i stop back in to ask if the fuse has arrived from special order. Still hasn't arrived! Most of the mechanics are good guys that will help you out but just like every other city department merit hacks running the show have no clue.

The Carbon Motors website shows a really intriguing version of the car, with all the bells and whistles. The only problem is that there is no car; only really great computer graphics. Estimated list on the vehicle will be 50G complete. A charger is 19G police price, and another 2 to 3 G in emergency gear; Crown Vics are 22G plus all the equipment.

The now Police Department is WAY different from the then Police Department, and I've been around for both eras. Trust me, this asshole will get caught and dealt with.

So take it easy Francis, and thanks for your prior good service.

Where are the saints at? I will gladly try to help eliminate the problem. I am not new nor am I a old timer. I use hair gel only when I go to weddings.

The real question is, why do you not help to eliminate the problem?

I believe its everyones job to keep our community safe not just the young guys. Where do all these alleged hair gel coppers who reside in MT. Greenwood live? The only I thing I see is transplants from Tommy Moore, St Galls, Nicks, Rita, Dennys, Bedes, Star of the Sea, ....It might not be shangri-la, but it is all we got left.

What we need on the west end of 022 is someone that's not riding around all night looking for parked cars with FOP stickers to bang for whatever inconsequential bullshit he can find, not locking up bad guys. When coming home (3rd watch), I have yet to see a car stop on 103rd St or 99th west of Western by 022. Get west of Kedzie and Evergreen Park is stopping every mutt that rolls through. They might have 4 cars working, but don't fuck around and come up with dope, guns, and hot cars all the time on midnights.I made an off duty arrest a while back and Evergreen Pk. showed up with a whole bunch of cars 10 minutes ahead of 022, who's Sgt. gave me an attitude like I was bothering them. No matter what some may think of the D/C in 022, I know he would much rather have 2211 come in every now and then with a burg. to auto, garage burg., hot car or gun from the west end than a fistful of parkers on copper's and firemen's cars. E.P and Merrionette Pk. give the shitheads hell as they drive through, how does 2211 miss the same assholes invading our neighborhood?

Hey Oldtimer, unlike a majority of younger officers living in Mt. Greenwood, I agree that the gangs have entered the community. You are right too about the vehicles racing up and down Kedzie with the bald headed gang bangers.A buddy of mine almost got his ass kicked over by Bourbon Street by several hispanic thugs representing their colors. They were in beige and black. He was off-duty and witnessed them urinating on the walls. He almost got his ass kicked just for asking them what they were doing?I've personally seen the gangs having meetings in the park across from Casto's. I was told by coppers in 022 to mind my own business. They are here and believe me, they are recruiting their numbers. My advice, don't get involved. Move out...you've done your time-the neighborhood is going to shit anyway. Let them have Mt. Greenwood. The smarter coppers head North these days anyway. I'm getting the fuck out of here myself. FUCK MT GREENWOOD!

The 19th Ward won't worry about 022 until their immediate family or friends start getting harassed by gang bangers. Mt. Greenwood is of lesser concern than Beverly. Mt. Greenwood is made up of drunken Irish and hillbillys anyway. To 2211: Give Mt. Greenwood to the gangs and just protect Beverly. Let Mt. Greenwood burn already. Get a clue you old piece of shit! Take your Kel light and shove it where the sun don't shine. RETIRE YOU DINOSAUR-IT ISN'T 1970!!!

SCC, I was just thinking about cab companies. I'd have to think that a big company like Yellow or Checker has as many, if not more, vehicles than an area.

Well I happen to take a cab from time to time and they're always clean & running well. Plus they're on the road most hours of the day just like a squad.

Just a thought. It's kinda sad our safety & wellbeing has been sold up the river, once again.

And by the way, what's with the URL for the CPD on the back of the new squads?

So they send us an email!?

In 2010 maybe 2009 Chevrolet is coming back with a larger RWD Impala police 9C1 car. It will have standard a 320 Horsepower motor, and all cop equipment and will be much more roomy inside than the crown vic! The crown vic is discontinued for public purchase and are only for fleet police and taxi use. Ford is making lots of money with this car extremely old design, same interior dimensions wait until Chevrolet comes back!

Shit, Beverly is already gone. It's too close to the source. Continue Border control west of Western Ave. That's all. Beverly is a wanna-be north side neighborhood. The Starbucks ain't foolin' anyone, there's one on 87th and Lafayette...so that basically tells you that ANY neighborhood can get a Starbucks. Mt. Greenwood isn't going to shit either tough guy.

Join the KMA club....
It saves gas no matter what car you drive!
I need lots of horsepower so when i chase the UH "720-CHase terminated...current location"
Silly boy.
More bullshit excitement for those who sleep with their newly approved glocks underneath their pillows.
All these expectations...Is there a day that you come to work when your supervisor informs you of something new that you can do. NO! Every day more and more is taken away. More paperwork and more pass the buck accountability.
Typical new copper...worried about how cool the car looks, what sweet gun I can carry, what level hold I can get with my vidal sassoon hair gel. The City is already jockeying for a position on not paying us what or what we may not deserve. And you expect cars. I would prefer comfort over horsepower. I am over 6'0. I guess they thought those impalas would be outstanding for the trolls they are hiring now. I once thought the wanna be CPD, Cook county sherrifs were the only ones hiring OOOmpa LOOmpa mother fuckers, to tell people to be quiet in court. (But call 10-1's because their neighbor is actin a fool)
We are in a downhill trend on the roller coaster ride that is the CPD. You can either close your eyes and hold on tight. Or put your hands up high and enjoy the funny feeling you get right above the cock n balls. Whos gonna sit with me in the front seat!

Why did the city back out of the class action lawsuit against ford for the crown vics with the numerous cases of being rear ended and the cars explode? Answer landmark ford are friemds of many alderthieves and gives heavily to their bullshit more money for me fund raisers!

Those of you who live in Beverly or Mt. Greenwood, on the lookout for "the animal" don't have to look very far. Many of the punks I've arrested over that way for tagging, burglary, theft from auto, etc. are copper's kids or kin. We need to do a better job of raising our own.

I'm a little late on this but down here in Texas, DPS (State Troopers) have gotten a bunch of Chargers for pursuit cars on the interstates.

Yeah, they're fast and look pretty badass, but you've got to fold people in half to get them in the back seat, and the truck is tiny. Most of the Troopers I've talked to like the styling but agree it's not all that practical and want their Crwon Vics back.

Whoever tries to be the police while over at Bourbon Street while off duty deserves an ass kicking by bangers. Bourbon St. isn't Chicago, so your buddy should have let them piss on the walls without saying a word. Hello??? Merrionette PD take care of Bourbon. Your buddy is an idiot. Tell him to go back to the Academy! First rule of CPD: Don't get involved in off duty crime. Maybe an ass kicking would have woke your po buddy back up. I agree with the others. Give Mt. Greenwood to the bangers and move up to 016 Asshat!

To: "HEY -- Anyone hear the dept. is letting the taser program die a slow death? we sent a PO down to get some fixed/replaced and he was told when these are all broken, and the spares are gone, thats it........"

It is possible, the X-26 TASERs we were given is now obsolete. New models are available that have cameras built in so they can record what you were zapping.

What may really kill the TASERs is a rumor that the W.C. will be required to respond to the scene. That won't work, who wants to stay around while the crowd gathers and the offender is carted off to the hospital.

This might be an upcoming trend for service vehicles. The U.S. is now making that part of most new military vehicles like tanks, armored personnel carriers, surface ships and subs. They are designed so that sections can be removed and replaced to update or fit the mission.

Beat 2211? The Jiffy Lube on 104th/Kedzie is filled with "former" gang bangers. They always say "former" to avoid the police. Check their records. Casto's? It's getting bad now. Used to have City workers drinking there, but now we have an influx of 2-6 drug dealers coming in from you guessed it...Garfield Ridge.
I'm with the old dude on watching out for our neighborhood. A good old smack to some punk's skull, if done in secrecy and with discretion, can go a long way. BTW, for those asking about the Latin Saints? They are hanging out in the Matrix aka Eric the Red's in the hopes of "sexing up" (their words not mine) your white Irish girls. Just ask tac. The Brother Rice kid is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many 2-6 gang members living in Mt. Greenwood. Open your eyes! You'll see these bald jo's wearing their pants to their knees throwing up signs at 111th/Kedzie.

Edison park=$$$$$$$
I spent 20 out of my 34 years of life in gar ridge and unfortunately its turned to gar-bage. I think the gang stuff started in about 1992 or so and when i git home from college all I saw by my ma's house were little thugs and then the shooting happened. we finally got my mom to move and its a shame. I'm personally sick of running gage park, gar ridge, now m.g..I really dont see many problems but whitey will eventually run but now where to? Edison park is way to expensive and not impressive at all they also have their share of problems and the houses are shitty of chicago specials. The city is shit the suburbs are shit....i think we just see too many negative things....ignorance is bliss.

Just heard on the news the city bought new toyota prius cars to show how green we are! lets give them to all the bosses as it is they don't even need a take home car but this way it would save fuel! And it gets better they also are ordering more e85 vehicles that get worse gas mileage than what we ahve to show how green cpd is! Who is getting this kickback?

There's a company in Michigan (Spartan Motor Company) that the city currently deals with. Jimmy Diesel in Lyons and the boys at Fleet have been dreaming. They are trying to get something that looks like the MRAP vehicles that Spartan and Force Protection produce. Good luck! The boys at Fleet, Jimmy Diesel and Spartan ARE connected!
