That Didn't Take Long

  • More than 93 percent of Chicago Public Schools students showed up for the first day of school this week, officials said Friday, calling the attendance figure the best ever.

With everybody from parents' groups to celebrities pushing the importance of getting kids to school on time, the district has reported increased first-day attendance in each of the last seven years. This year's number marks a slight uptick from last year's 92.8 percent mark.
Even though the entire attendance program crashed and the whole system was forced to use paper-and-pencil to keep track of who was there and who wasn't.

Is there any miracle that the Daley minions can't perform?

Every year the Taste of Chicago breaks last years record breaking year. Every year CPS enrollment is higher than the year before. It is complete and total bullshit. I know for a fact CPS lies about attendence. A guy in my academy class is in Fugitive Apprehension. They were looking for a 16 year old with a murder warrant from the summer of 2006. The first day of school last September they went to his high school. No show. They computer police from 35th Street created some database via the CPS computer systems in 2006 that Fugitives can access. It lists all enrolled students and gives their school, home address etc. He saw the guy he wanted listed as enrolled at the school he checked before. They went back and talked to the PO at the school. The kid never showed up since day 1 of the 2006/2007 school year. But Daley was getting state money for him as being enrolled. We need a tax payer revolt!

Dont know if this is true or not. I heard that the money received from the feds for the whole year is based on the first days attendence.

My son goes to a public school. He still has not recieved his free pass to the museum. Trivial? You bet! So I asked a teacher...she side stepped the issue and started talking about demographics, and that kids at our school have been born into an upper middle class...
I stopped her and said "What your telling me is that the Minority schools recieved the passes and kids from this school will not be"?

The look on her face gave me the tacit admission that I was correct.

End busing. Keep neighborhood schools for the neighborhood only. Keep the intercity ghetto thugs in their neighborhood school. After all its the student, not the school thats the problem. Busing brings all the schools down to ghetto level.

They also failed to mention that "6,000" LESS students enrolled in the CPS this year.
As a brother stated earlier..."Figures lie and liars figure!"

Off topic here: Just saw 4 Corner Hustler graffiti on the 3800/3900 block of north Panama on 1631's beat. Any cops who are residents of this beat, and I know there are quite a few, please relate your concerns to the 16th Dist Caps Office and Alderman Banks. We need to put pressure on 16th Dist to be sure they keep their Gang and Tac teams in the district where our tax dollars logically dictate they should be assigned.

The powers to be do not want to admit a gang problem in 16 just as the 8th district did for years and look at Eight now.

Damn, 93%, that's great! NOT!

Why don't the papers post the ten largest pubic school districts in the nation's first day attendance? Could it be that Arnold and little-man would have egg on their face?

My son's parochial school only had a 99.8% first day attendance showing. That was the 21st of August.
I'm so confused.

Do you think Arnold's kids do or will go to CPS?

Let the games begin!!!!

I just want to add that there are some really good Chicago Public Schools out there. To stereotype all schools in Chicago is a disservice to the dedicated teaching professionals out there. I read a lot of complaints but I don't see solutions. My way of life is to take care of my children and all the children in my neighborhood, regardless of if they attend public or Catholic. As adults, we have a responsibility to the community in which we live. If you don't like your neighborhood public school, think about what it needs to make it better. Think about what you can do to improve it. We have to stop complaining and start attempting to come up with solutions.

BEST WAY TO IMPROVE IT? SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO A CATHOLIC SCHOOL SIMPLE AS THAT!

cps schools have : gangbangers, drugs and morons.
private schools have: none of the above and really smart parents.

everyone has a choice. sending your kid to a cps school is just being cheap. ill work 3 jobs to keep my kids in private school. why? i dont want to see police or metal detectors when i drop them off in the morning.

Honest count: The public should demand an honset count of the CPS "students".

The phony count is just a scam to suck money from the state.

Do the count on Friday afternoon to get the legit. numbers.

I'd guess about 52% show up at school. Don't want to miss the free lunch.
