Welcome New Visitors!

Well, the Daily Southtown article (linked here for your viewing pleasure) steered an extra 1,100 or so hit to us Monday. That article was somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,600 words.

The Sun Times hatchet job of the same piece (linked here for comparison purposes) has surpassed that total by a few thousand and still climbing.

So our new visitors might feel like reading the full Daily Southtown article to get the full scope of what we're doing here. Also, page down through the last 10 days or so worth of articles, then make a start on some of our 2,700 other posts over the past two-and-a-third years.

PLEASE NOTE: Fully 30-40% of our readers come from outside the Chicago area. We have readers on 6 continents, Antarctica being the lone hold out. We have a very minimally moderated comment policy, so be prepared to be offended on occasion.

We also cannot, nor do we have any intention of proving, that each and every poster here is a Chicago Police Officer. We have posers here who try to pass themselves off as police here constantly and the real police are merciless in their criticism. For those who would criticize our maintaining anonymity running this site, we reply that you have no idea of the overly long reach of the political Machine here.

Anyway, read, browse, digest and remember, take everything you read here with a grain of salt. We are the only people here who admit to being Chicago Police and everything we publish is on the front page or has our logo in the comments section.

SCC,

You have an awesome site.

I saw your blog on heavy weapons. My opinion is that each district should have personnel who are physically capable of and trained to react to active shooter incidents. These guys/gals should have take home cars, train on a monthly basis and be ready for immediate deployment in case of an active shooter incident at a mall or school. Each watch should have four officers and a sarge who are capable and motivated enough to tackle this mission. They should have an M4, a ballistic shield, and diversionary devices. In most instances a SWAT Team cannot be mobilized quickly enough to respond to an active shooter incident. Guys and gals on the watch would be the immediate responders. These guys and gals could also be a force multiplier if Chicago gets the Olympics.

Knowing the mentality of CPD bosses, guys and gals who are losers who couldn't do a pushup if their life depended on it would take the slot just to get the take home squad and to be able to take photos holding the M4.

Another of your blogs mentioned the FLSA Fair Labor Standards Act. In 1994, Federal Agents were able to win a class action lawsuit in which the government had to make payouts of between $3,000 to $24,000 to individual special agents employed by the US Customs Service, the INS, the DEA, and other agencies. The US Secret Service and the FBI were not included in the suit due to the unique civil service status their agents are employed under. The lawsuit came about because Federal Criminal Investigators were not being adequately compensated for overtime that was worked. The firm which handled the lawsuit was Bernstein and Lipsett of Washington DC. Maybe this firm could address issues faced by CPD officers.

Take care guys and gals and stay safe!!!!!!!!

SCC, from one single law abiding, stand-up citizen, I want to say to you and every other Chicago Police Officer that reads this: Thank you for getting in that squadrol each and every day and risking your life to maintain law and order in this city. I say that from the bottom of my heart, I don't mean to be hyperventilating in my prose, but I want you to know there's one more citizen out there, that not only respects the badge, but the man or woman that wears it. "To protect and serve", those are high and mighty words, too bad, forces beyond our control seek to pervert and sully you and your fellow officer's call to duty.

I feel like a coward posting anonymously, but like you, I'm in a position, where it would be foolhardy to stand behind my name, so I'll call my self "Solid Citizen". God bless you brother, ride safe.

Open Letter fron the future Superintendent:

Dear Citizens and Visitors to the City of Chicago,

As your new Superintendent, it has come to my attention that their has been a rash of police-involved shootings. Recently, one of our own was shot while in the performance of his duties, but will survive, which every member of the Chicago Police Dept. is thankful for. I want to make this perfectly clear so their will be no miscommunications ever again. In the city of Chicago, it is illegal to possess a handgun. If you are out on the street, and carrying a handgun, you will be arrested and possibly shot if you do not abide by the orders of any of my police officers to stop. Once again, their are no gray areas here...if you run, you will be chased. If you do not show your hands when asked to do so, you may be shot. My officers are trained if a handgun or a replica of any such handgun is shown, they are authorized to shoot to kill. This may sound like a threat to you, and it should be if you are carrying a handgun. So, let's review..if you are approached and ordered by a police officer to stop, or show your hands, I ask you do so. If you do not comply, their is a chance you may be shot..possibly paralyzed for life or mortally wounded. If you would like to restore order to your respective community, you will hopefully support my new campaign. I also promise, you will not see me or a member of my staff, visiting or hugging any members of the "God Squad"..these consist of Rev. (I use this term loosely) Pfleger, Rev. (loosely used again) Jesse (Shakedown) Jackson, or the other New York shakedown artist who I refuse to acknowledge. They do not represent a majority of the law-abiding citizens of your community.

Signed:

Supt. (Fill in the Blank)

I don't always agree with SCC, and I am not an apologist for SCC. But I think SCC does provide us a place to talk...to let off steam...to joke...to keep each other apprised of current events (like Mike Mette). SCC doesn't force us to come here; we come here of our own accord.

I don't think SCC has ever claimed to speak for all CPD members (and I've read and re-read SCC posts from the last couple of years). From what I have read, SCC speaks for SCC, and SCC only. The main posts are SCC's. The comments contained therein aren't SCC's (unless marked by SCC's logo); they're the comments of those who choose to comment on SCC's posts.

I think people (police and not) fail to distinguish between what is SCC's (the posts on the dark blue background) and what is not SCC's (comments section for each post), thereby attributing attitudes or comments to SCC which SCC never had or stated.

Critical thinking should enter here.

Anonymity has its merits and its faults. We have no idea whether posters here are the police or not. Those who talk about lying, cheating, stealing, dogging, hating, etc. may be police or may be trolls. Who knows?

Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

Has anybody done a survey or looked into the amount of accidents that have occured on those things? Whats it gonna take for the city/department to get rid of those things?
A) Officer wipes out hitting thier head and landing in a coma for years?

B) Officer on the sidewalk hits a senior citizen. Officer hurt, senior citizen breaks an arm and a hip? Senior dies as a result of the Segway collision??

After A or B? is that what its gonna take?

I know of a few serious injuries that have occured in 001 and 018. Someone must be getting some type of kickback why else would PO's be forced to get "Segway E#'s"?

I have said this before and will say it again. Do not hope for that. Get rid of FOP. The time is now, this is the window of opportunity to eliminate an organization that has done nothing but cost us money and benefits for all these years.

I have thirty years on. I hate FOP. They almost got me fired. When I proved that there were violations of Federal Labor laws regarding me, they actually sided with the city and went against me. It cost me over five grand for a lawyer to straighten the mess out and keep my job.

FOP is the city and the city is FOP. Find a new union. Me, I'm retiring so I do not care. But you younger guys should think hard. There is not one member of FOPho will stand up and fight for you; at least not for long.

Anyone who thinks FOP is good, useful, or great is a fool, a moron, or a chump. Get rid of them now!

Asked about the accusations of racism that plague his blog, and the department in general, he counters, "There was a quote we read in a book, that coppers worldwide have an intense dislike for the poorest segment of society they serve.

"The example given was a Chicago cop bitching about African-Americans to an NYPD guy, who then had to top him with, "You think that's bad? Let me tell you about the Puerto Ricans in New York!"

"Are there racists? Sure, they're everywhere, even in the media, but there are 25 districts and dozens of units where people can try to get if they don't want to deal with what they don't like."

Still you/we can live with “acceptable” levels of racism? Not! And if you espouse this, then you are as much of a problem as the gangbangers and aldercreatures. Unlike you I tend not to dislike the 911 caller but rather the person(s) that has that person calling 911. This article did you no good unless you considered a rise in visitors a success.

For your info, the current full time SWAT team of CPD still does not have take home squad cars, they have to respond to jobs off duty in their own cars. and if they are out training at one of the outdoor ranges ie. joliet, marsailles or great lakes forget about because they will be responding from there in thier own cars from a call they recieve on their own cell phone that they pay for, thats right the city doesn't even provide them with cell phones or pagers. I hope there never is a 9- 11 tragedy in our lovely downtown city because it would be preatty difficult for our SWAT team members to respond from home to downtown in their personal cars when everybody else is attempting to leave the city, they won't get far without lights and sirens.....God help us....

Merit promotions really ruined the job. Look at the ranks of Chiefs ( 2) and then Deputy Chiefs. More merit to Lt. What a joke and the citizens actually think it is on the legit.
Hey average citizen- in a Terror Incident , do you think these politicians( bosses.)can actually think fast, read ( believe it or not some have trouble reading) and possess the cognitive skills to actually assess a situation and make a decision? NOT
