Mark Brown Column

  • It all falls apart if you can't trust the police. By it, I mean our society and all its working parts, the whole ball of wax.

Everything depends on having an honest, ethical police force on which the public can rely to enforce the rules fairly and keep the peace.

That's a lot of responsibility to put on the men and women who carry the badges, but it has to weigh as heavily on them as the gun on their hip.

Brown cites the SOS scandal, the conviction of a retired cop in the Family Secrets trial, the Burge case, and that old standby, the Abbate bar video. He also writes the following:
  • Already we have communities in Chicago where the police are not trusted, with one of the results being that every incident where a police officer shoots a suspect is now treated with extreme suspicion, as was the case again Friday.
Throughout the article, Brown harps on the police without once noticing the part played by his fellow reporters in this entire drama. TV reporters regularly seek out the loudest and most insane person possible to be the voice of community outrage when the police shoot an armed subject who then spreads their lies via the media. The Abbate video was played ENDLESSLY for no apparent purpose. The Burge case is a DEAD ISSUE according to the laws of the City, State and Federal Government, but grandstanding politicians will be feeding off this carcass for years to come. And as for "Twan" Doyle, anyone who thinks the Outfit hasn't had cops on the payroll since the turn of last century better brush up on history.

How about being a little more even handed instead of running to find someone who'll blame the police every time some social misfit decides to run around with a pistol and gets shot for his trouble? Almost no one is reporting the most recently dead altar boy JUST SHOT ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL ON THE STREET! If they do, it's way at the bottom of the article. How about calling Meeks and Rush and Jakes and Sharpton and Jesse and a large portion of the Sun Times columnists exactly what they are - race baiting poverty pimps who will climb into bed with a known vice lord and convicted felon to paint the police as "out of control?" And how about hammering the fact that the Daley crime syndicate has been stealing more money in crooked land deals, rigged construction contracts, false minority fronts and who knows how else for years and their grand total is going to be probably 1,000 times higher than what Finnigan and his cohorts got?

Brown closes with this:
  • I'd like to see some demonstration from Chicago Police officers that they take all these problems as seriously as the public does, something more than just going out there and doing their jobs the right way, which I concede is no small thing. This is not a time for police officers to go into Us vs. Them mode, unless Us refers to the good police officers and Them to the bad ones. This is a time to acknowledge the public's right to be concerned.

If you're going to write to tell me I'm an idiot, or even if you agree with me, please sign your name. It works better that way.

Here's your demonstration Mark - read our comment sections over the past few days. We're disgusted and our readers are disgusted with those who'd support crooked cops by a wide margin. Many of our readers are even willing to forgo the "innocent until proven guilty" guarantee because some of these cases are so blatant. But when the publics' alleged "watchdogs" are part of the problem and are in bed with the politicians by not asking the hard questions of the elected leaders, you can damn well bet we're going to hunker down with the cops we can trust.

As an aside, we don't think you're an idiot out of hand, but if you think we're going to sign our names to anything in this town, you're way beyond an idiot and treading in "moron" territory.

When you really stop and think about it, only a small percentage of people in communities hate us; those who are criminals and their families. In realty, most people in most communities just want to go about heir daily lives and be left alone. They could care less who gets shot by the police.

The poverty pimp pols and their whoremaster ministers are just pandering to constituencies. If the majority- whole cimmunities really hated us, there would be riots everytime pookie the honor student- future priest, nuclear physicist, savior of humanity- got shot.

Folsk, most people either like us or tolerate us. It is the minority who hate us; those who have the most to lose by our presence. Unfortunately, the minority rules and has the loudest voices.

Hey, SCC, don't be too harsh on Mark Brown. He is DEFINITELZY one of the better reporters out there today in Chicago. He's even got valid points, and we all know we've taken a beating in the press.
Hey, did you hear about the 10-99 female copper who pulled over a street deputy who displayed badge and photo id and attempted to write him a ticket for driving while talking on his dept cell phone?? Heard he was in civilian dress, and in his Dept. vehicle at the time. Priceless!! I heard the ADS was a M/1, and the 10-99 female that pulled him over was a F/2. Seems an ugly beef is coming.

Where's your outrage over the one-sided reporting, the phony stories for your puke pulitzers, the blatant bashing of our wartime President by reporters who are suppose to report, not comment.
How bout u reporters not asking the REAL questions to this mayor about

Never thought it could get this bad in our former great city. Are things that bad that we may never recover? Totally at a loss, where does one go from here? Is there anything short of a armed revolution to straighten things out? Is this a local problem or has our whole nation turned to shit?

The problem with SOS rests squarely on the shoulders of the Exempt members in their chain-of-command and IAD.
If they had been paying attention and took action then the situation would of never gotten out of hand.

Doyle had outfit connections as is documented. I do believe it was only by coincidence that he was working in ERPS when the piece of evidence was retrieved by the FBI. If he had wanted to help the boys out on a day to day basis he would of been assigned to an FBI task force, Intelligence Section or a Detective Unit like the Cold Case Squad.

Burge will go forever. The plantiff's bar want the money, the politicians can use it to make points with their constituancy and the media can use it to pummell Daley. If he died, confessed or went to jail it would not end.

George Ryan pardoned 4 guilty individuals for his own purposes and the media does not condemn him for it.

Oh and those biased bar workers, don't forget about them. You know the ones who all testified in court that the police started the fight and weren't provoked. Bar workers are very anti police as well as reporters. But hey we it's contract time.

To bad we can't just build a time machine and go back in time to stop video tapes from being made. Then things could go back to the way they were. We do whatever we want and just sweep it under the rug.

CITY'S $193 MILLION HOLE | Daley unveils laundry list of tax hikes -- on property, water, gas and restaurants -- and tells aldermen to pass enough to plug budget

October 2, 2007
BY FRAN SPIELMAN City Hall Reporter/fspielman@suntimes.com

The mayor also threw in a handful of new initiatives to appease aldermen and their tax-weary constituents: hiring 50 more police officers at a cost of $4.1 million; spending $1 million to install 100 more surveillance cameras in high-crime areas;

100 more surveillance cameras??!!!!

I'm a newly promoted sergeant with much more time on the job and more meaningful police experience than a third of the politically connected, merit promoted, exempt members on the Department. As a new supervisor the most difficult task for me thus far is trying to convince patrolmen, and even the other sergeants, to ignore these assholes pitching rocks on the street corners. The life expectancy of Tyreese when allowed to languish on the corner is about one-tenth of what it is when we house the mutt in our lock-up.
And if you need to lump the prick after a foot chase the same fruits who beef and lay this whole mess at your feet at a CAPS meeting would be the first to run to the media with their cell phone video of you "brutalizing" a vice lord or black soul. Fuck them. Save yourself.

Do we really want to pimp for urban real estate intrests and connected politicians who salivate at the opportunity to displace these animals with your help and relocate them to subsidized housing in Edison Park, Beverly, or Clearing?

I never felt this way before and I've reviewed more TRR'S than most exempts have felony arrests however, this is not my fathers, our your fathers, police department anymore. And with a thirty-one-percent white population left in Chicago it is not their city anymore, either. A brilliant captain once told me to develop a lucrative side job and do little more than answer the radio since this Department will throw you to the wolves in the name of political expediency as reward for your proactive police work. To which I replied, "But Dad, than your a dog." I realize he was right, maybe just a little ahead of the times nearly twenty years ago.

So finish your school work, get your degree, and get out the job guide (or Monster for you twenty-somethings). I'll always be there when you need me and then we can both cross are fingers and hope that this latest resistor isn't our last.

A Demonstration would do nothing but make good press for Mr Brown and his cohorts at the suntimes. It would not change anyone's mind. All my years on the Police Dept has taught me one thing. I cannot trust the press. I do not condone the actions of those Officers who turn to crime, I hope if they are guilty the get what they deserve. I do not need your approval. Unlike most of the suntimes regular readers I can make up my mind with being told what to think by a columnist or a play reverend.

Noble sentiments indeed, from Mr. Brown of the The Working man's Pal.

Mr. Brown protested in his piece that he is 'not a police basher' - as a reader, Mr. Brown, you are and have been a police basher. By my calendar, stretching from your 'on the streets' coverage of a near riot on the west side during the summer of 2006. Your "officer's 'bring-it - on' smirk" editorialized that the police caused the street violence - your paper had an officer being taunted by 'a t-shirted activist' in a photo that you, Mr. Brown, editorialized as a 'bring-it-on' smirk.

Your column to day is ceek to jowl with Frank Main's latest in series of Jon Loevy lawsuit leg-ups that CST has papered the streets with.

Be honest - bash the police. Let them have it.

You can not have it both ways - that only works in the media.

CST - has done more to create distrust of law enforecement than any gang-banger, street hustler or bad cop. CST and sleaze bag lawyers make money from this agenda. Mark Brown suffers not.

Let's Get into It!

Ok, I think this whole situation is past getting old. First of all we will recover as a whole, personally I don't know any of the sos knuckleheads, Abbatte or anyone else but in life there are a lot of people you put your trust into and they fail you some how. Just ask the ladies who were fondled by their doctor, the boys molested by the parish priests, the U.S. citizens who had members of the CIA sell secrets to the Russians,Children who've been raped and murdered by their own parents, brothers who stab each other over fkn food...Do I need to keep going Mark? Yes I'm sickened by all these actions but its unfortunately gonna happen, so again welcome to the human mind. Accepting this won't sell papers, though, so I understand. All I can say is that I gotten into a car with the men and women of the Chicago Police Department Six days
a week probably 46 weeks out of the year for the last 10 years and I have a pretty good idea of the situation and the last people the citizens of the city have to worry about is us. We seem to have a million checks and balances and when someone strays from their duties they are caught plain and simple ask the two fools from 022, the goof from 008 with the happy hands at ford city. There is no conspiracy believe me or not I don't truly care anymore what anyone thinks because plain and simple this is a job, this isn't save the world because the only thing that can save the world is a psychiatrist. The world some how between my grandparents generation and mine has lost its class, sure it always had problems but how it was dealt with was another matter. Anyway, these fools will be dealt with like all other fools and we will carry on like we always do, by laughing in the face of things we cannot change. Oh, and can we stop using words like corruption and scandal when someone "bravely" comes forward to tell their story on how they won the Chicago lottery
all it is,is an infomercial on another get rich quick scheme.Peace.

Mark Brown,

Have no doubt that we, the good officers on this job, are in fact outraged by the recent actions of Jerome Finnegan and the like.

We don't grandstand and we don't run to the media to get our sound bite on the news. We are too busy fighting crime, working second jobs and taking care of our families.

Where have you been over the last 20+ years? We don't even come together to demonstrate against the crap contracts we're handed by city hall (except for one time).

You don't need us to fan the flames against these few bad apples; the media has that down to a science. We choose to continue to do the job we were hired to do; fight crime, rid our city streets of scum and make Chicago a safe place for you and me.

It would be nice to get some consistent acknowledgement for the good job we do everyday. How about all the print media reserve one article within the first three pages displaying the good things we do on a daily basis.

Maybe channels 2,5,7,9, fox and cltv could promise to air at least one positive story about the police EVERY single night; trust me, there are plenty of stories that pour in on a daily basis.

We aren't asking for much, just a little time and a little space to showcase the good we do EVERY single day. Maybe you can help fan those flames Mr. Brown.

Sincerely,

Anonymous

Mabe they will pick Rio instead. With the mayor wanting the olympics so bad we might have some leverage in getting a better contract. Just think how embarrased he would be if we show up at one of the sites this person plans to visit when he is here in Chicago. with security being a major issue for the olympics we might influence his decision. DO YOU HEAR ME FOP AND PBPA, LETS START ACTING LIKE A UNION THAT REPRESENTS THE MEMBERSHIP. We can't strike but we can do some informational picketing while the world is watching and embarass King Richie. If Brown is right that the CPD is an exceptionally dysfunctional police department, the responsibility for that does not rest at the feet of the patrol officer peons ( no disrespect to p.o's...just using a figure of speech).

When there is such a catastrophic lacking in the standard of any business or department it's on the MANAGMENT.

Mr. Brown talks from upon high about officers in the trenches being heard and acting as the agents of change as though he himself took one for the team and was the first to report on the Hollinger / Sun-times square dance. I don't think Mr. Brown reported on any of that until things got to a point where he could report on the matter and not get canned. Also, at no time did that Canadian guy who ran the Sun-Times have the kind of power Daley holds.

When da mare and his wife got the stomach flu a winter or two back did Mr. Brown or any of the Chicago media write about how exceptional and royal it seemed when traffic in all directions to Nortwestern Hospital was put in lockdown for several blocks so the Daley's could get treatment unlike anyone else could? We're talking a flu bug they both had remember.

My mother is 80 & I'm 48. I can never remember more building going on in this city. My mother says she can't remember a period of time of such robust building. She said the only time that comes close was after WWII. Yet, with all this increased building and all the appreciation in Real Estate values and all the increased property tax revenue that comes with it, combined with all the tax revenue from the highest price gas in the nation (higher then Hawaii for gods sake ' n don't brainwash me with the cost of blended fuel justification).

Why isn't Mr . Brown and his cohorts reporting on where all this money is going.

Here is the quality of the hard hitting questions of our Chicago media:

George Ryan is found guilty but is, still, not in jail.

Mr. Brown why is it that law firm is spending tens of MILLIONS of dollars on that scumbag ( at the Jr. partner's expense...not a lawyer)?

Chicago/ Illinois poiticians don't do favors without a payback.

Mr. Bauer, Ryans right hand man in the cover-up of the license-for-campaign-cash investigation that killed the six Willis children was too sick to go to jail. What is his story, is he dead yet or living on a pension in FL or AZ?

Oh yes, in the beginning during the gubenatorial election Glen Poshard gave the media a heads up Ryan was using such devices but you the media seemed to listen to the Cook County masters and paint Poshard as a crackpot making wild accusations.

Oh, I loved this in depth reporting..... that Bridgeport kid that got the 20 year lease on the Mi$$enium Park restaraunt where the city paid for water and trash removal in turn for an uncommonly low percentage of the gross receipts the connected one chose to report to thee city? What was the explaination the Sun-Times accepted from the city with out a hard hitting follow-up question? The Sun-Times quoted a city official at the time as saying and I praphrase, "The city negotiated/entered into this lease just after 9-11 and the condition of the economy was very questionable. We gave this leasee some help given that scenario that we might otherwise would not hsvs given, given a better economic outlook." I'm paraphrasing but that was the "jist" of the city's explaination. NONE of the media NONE followed up with, "You helped him out if the economy tanked after 9-11 with a 20 -- TWENTY YEAR LEASE!!

Mr. Brown, show us you have some stones and this week update us on where all the money goes; what's up with Ryan & Bauer and if the people of Chicago are still paying for the trash removal and water for the clouted Bridgeport kid.

Mother of god, I could go on with more outrages, impounded cars deemed as abanded and scrap and sold for profit in resale as not scrap but drivable not by rouge cops but by the city of Chicago! Tadin, Duffs, Drug ring at the WATER FILTRATION plant post 9-11...eyes rolling..time card scam....ManagementManagmentManagment
It's not on work-a-day cops. Most people didnt even vote in the last mayor election and you in the media made it a "landslide".

Respectfully,
DW
(not a Cop)

For any of us to leave our name would be to invite all sorts of repercussions form the city and the department. As for demonstrating against the dirty cops, as SCC stated, we are just as disgusted, if not more so, by their actions as everyone else is. Maybe some of us would demonstrate, but we are too busy going to work, going to court, getting stuck on late jobs (because there is no man power), and trying to raise our families to have time to demonstrate. Instead of writing an article about how the police should feel and what we should do in regards to these scandals, maybe you should write an article how SOS and almost all the other units in this department are filled with clouted P/O’s whose misdeeds are covered up by the exempts of this department and the crooked politicians of this city and county.

Mark who? I stopped reading that rag sheet years ago! The majority of the media is made up by race baiters and propoganda pushers!!! They hate conservative Americans and they want to hand this country over to the radical Muslims. By the way, is there such a thing as a moderate Muslim? Not really!!!

By the way, the Democrats are at it again. The thieves that make up the Cook County Board are trying to steel the silver from your fillings. Give your respective "representatives" a call and tell them to pound sand. How about cutting some of Erckel's staff and stop giving free medical care to the dreds of society!!! That's right...there are leeches out there that have never paid a fucking dime in taxes and they use the emergency rooms in hospitals as there primary care physicians!!! Fuck them as welll!!! Cut off the freebies for this socialistic society that exists in this shithole of a city and shithole of a county!!! Forward this message to the International Olympic Committee as well!!!

Why is it that the city council isnt held under the microscope as much as the police department. Unless you use fuzzy math, seems a much larger percentage of them are indicted each year. With that in mind they get to pick merit promotees? Everyone ever promoted through the inluence of an alderman should have that promotion recinded. I may be wrong but didnt Beavers push the GED super intended to his interim position. Beavers is now pushing the hispanic community with the threat of enforcing immigration laws if they dont for the new proposed tax increases as I understand it on the news today. Correct me if I'am wrong.
1 alderman = 2% of the city council.
26 p.o. = approximately 2% of the police force

So a homicide offender walks into HQ and tells the "officers" at the desk he wants to cop to a muder and will sing like a canary.

These "officers" tell him to beat it and tell him to go to the Area to confess to the dics.

They do not place him in custody, they do not call a 002nd Dist car, do not call OEC, nothing.

Whoever these jagoffs are, a CR should be generated and they should take a few days.

Why should Brown ask elected leaders about actions of police officers, who, acting as independent contractors choose to use their office for personal enrichmment. Jesus Christ, cant you take responsibility for anything?

10/02/2007 05:32:00 AM

....

You are entirely missing the point of this topic. SCC clearly addressed that the majority of us abhor the actions of the corrupt officers that have come to light in recent months.

SCC is NOT asking Brown to ask elected leaders to respond to the wrong doing of police officers. He is asking that the media not sensationalize police shootings involving armed offenders by interviewing people who imply wrong doing where it doesn't exist. To not endlessly give these people a voice to discuss where the officer's round (bullet) hit the offender or to at least give another side to the story. That officers are trained to use deadly force when they are threatened by deadly force. That the State of Illinois and Chicago Police Department Rules clearly deliniate the times that an officer is allowed to use deadly force. That the officer is faced with a life and death situation in the flash of seconds and wants to come out of it alive and go home to his family.

Perhaps he should have separated the topic to address why the media doesn't scrutinize the criminal behavior of the elected leaders you refer to but he like so many of the rest of us are angry and frustrated that the media appears to have a hands off approach when it comes to critizing the Mayor of Chicago when warranted but quickly uses police officers as the whipping boy for any incident that might raise their ratings, regardless of how factual it is.

I think that we shouldn't be expected to take responsibility for something that another officer has done. Just as you wouldn't feel responsible for something that your fellow doctor, lawyer, dishwasher or whatever your profession may be has done.

Mark Brown's piece is not an indictment of the police. And I will tell you; thank God that officer wore a wire and put Finnigan away. Finnigan is a scum bag criminal who has made our job harder. For the thousands of honest coppers who answer their calls, watch out for their fellow officers, and try to do the right thing for the citizens who need our help, Finnigan made our job harder. Guys like Finnigan exist in this department, and we can't stand for it. If there is 1 bad apple like a Finnigan for every 500 coppers then we have at least 20 rogues who give us all a bad name. Abbate was a drunk who went on off the deep end, and the Jefferson Tap was a bar fight; but Finnigan is a criminal who belongs behind bars. One final note to Mark Brown: Chicago Police Officers everyday do countless acts of bravery and selflessness. We are used to being ignored by the media for the thousands of things we do right everyday. We don't pat each other everyday for the robbery that did not occur, the theft that was prevented, the drunken driver that was taken off the road, or for the violent criminal that is now behind bars. It is our job, we do it proudly. We are furious over a criminal who once wore the same star we wear, however we are incredulous of a media that can't see the forest for the trees.

Mr. Brown,

I would never call you an idiot for expressing your opinion. Let us make no mistake about it... it is your opinion, as I am about to express my own. I have been a police officer for over 17 years, some as a patrolman, a detective, and some as a supervisor. I have worked strictly in neighborhoods that were financially deprived to lower middle class where crime has always been a major factor and problem in those communities. In those seventeen plus years I have worked with some of the bravest individuals I have ever known. Officers who literally put their lives on the line for no extra reward or acknowledgment. These officers run into danger, whether it be a man with a gun, shot fired, or any other situation where you and every other citizen will run away from. Society sometimes forgets that officers are not supermen or wonderwomen with that type of protection. The only difference between us and you is that we choose to run into that danger. We are human beings that bleed and die as you do, but human beings who swore an oath to protect the lives and properties of others. The very lives of those individuals you speak of who have no trust in the police. After 17 years I am still in awe as to bravery that these officers display.

It is extremely ignorant (and I mean that in the true definition of the word) for you to think and express that we are not outraged by the acts of these few officers that have committed these acts. These acts obviously affect us a great deal. You may not think that these actions are those of a few, but in comparison to the number of officers out there doing this job daily the number of bad officers are very small.

Allow me to express it this way,,,, have you ever taken the time to write an article about your opinion of an officer who has done a heroic act? I am not referring to an act in the Goldcoast or in an extremely privileged neighborhood. Those always seem to make the news. I am speaking of the economically deprived, crime ridden neighborhoods? Before you answer that question with a "yes" let me follow up with another question. If you have, has it been as many times as you and other members of the media have written negative articles about the police? I think not. I can guarantee that the media will always without fail report about a bad cop, as so they should! However, if the media chose to report about the unselfish and extremely brave acts that officers perform on a daily basis maybe the public would understand that the majority of officers are out there serving the public interest. You could create a Sunday paper daily if you chose to report these types of acts.

I have worked as a supervisor on the Chicago Police Department for the last three years. In that time I continue to see new officers as well as veteran officers continue to perform acts of bravery and courage on a daily basis. I am still amazed at what men and women do when they wear a badge. As a supervisor I can give them nothing more than a "good job". I cannot give them a raise or a promotion nor do they ask for one. It angers me that these officers are placed in the same category as those that should never have been on the job.

Let us make no mistake about it....WE ARE OUTRAGED BY THE ACTS OF CROOKED OFFICERS...Those acts affect no one more than us. Those acts make our difficult job an unbearable one.

This response was not intended to be argumentative or insulting but an attempt to inform you of our position that you for some reason seem to doubt. Let us be honest with each other and with the public. The public's opinion is largely developed and decided by the reporting of the media. I submit to you sir, that you have done a poor job of allowing the public the right and opportunity to form an educated opinion by the one sided reporting of your profession.

I do not blame the public for their misconception. They rely on you to keep them informed. Your profession, just as those bad officers, have failed them.

Mark Brown,
Truth be told, I work in SOS and could care fucking less about the whole scandal thing. Want to know why? Once any of those guys took money, they became shitheads to me/us. I try to lock people up everyday, and when I do, I refer them as shitheads. And after I lock up a shithead, I don't care about them. Ask any cop, they'll tell you. That's why there is no outrage by us. It is because they turned into the enemy and honestly we don't care, they became criminals. Of course the brass will come up with a new G.O. or some other bullshit micro management scheme, but we really don't care. All of us at SOS now, have nothing to fear and the only bad part about it is that we can't lock more people up and be in the districts where we are really needed. We still respond to hot calls in the districts and help out any officer we can no matter what. So to try to make us "repent" because some jagoffs comitted a crime, good luck with that. By the way, harrison was a shithead and got what he deserved. If you haven't figured out the westside lottery yet, then as a reporter, you are an idiot. Ladies and gentleman today the Sun-Times reports that two Chicago Police Officers, Jerry Lodwich, and Scott Korhonen shoved a screw driver up the anus of an arrestee. They are now answering to these charges in federal court as we speak.
If there are ANY members of CPD that have law degree's, AND THERE ARE QUITE A FEW OF YOU!, please seek these officers out and counter suit this case PRO BONO.
I have known both of them for many years, and they are absolutely innocent, stand-up, hard working cops.
To the rest of us...
Here today is a prime example of two ABSOLUTELY innocent cops, without clout, being put through the ringer.
They are the guys without a voice, or phone call.
If you all want to set an example of a police protest like that of Gilhooly/Rappaport VS. the street sign, then please start an on line petition to bring attention to their issue.
Maybe petition this outrage to Mark Brown.

"anonymous" (2:37pm) I think YOU need to get your facts straight.
No way did she suspect the ADS was a DUI. Never asked him to take any sobriety tests. And she was shown the ADS's badge and photo id, and STILL demanded a DL...from a boss! I wasn't there, but on the face of it, it stinks of...(dare I say it?)racial profiling.
Imagine, being pulled over in an unmarked squad for talking on a cell phone, which we all know all POs are exempt from enforcing the ordinance upon. I don't know what the Lt's little dummy wife is going to say when she's called down to answer what happened, but I think she's going to do some serious time for this one.

WTF?? Mark Brown should "police" HIS profession? Like WE police OURS?? Give me a break!! Brown is no more accountable for Sneed and Co. than anyone here is for Abbate or Finnigan. Jeez, I've heard everything now....No one is their brother's keeper.

I've stopped a few bosses in my time. And each one was a gentleman. Never stopped a female boss though, but I would imagine a woman would be the same. They show their ID, I wish them a good morning/afternoon/evening. Off they go. No harm, no foul.

Good manners all around are the only way to go, for the on duty and off duty police.

Nothing wrong with an officer asking the off duty copper for the star and ID. And the off duty copper should have no problem showing it. If the ADS acted in any way other than a gentleman, then he's an asshat.

Man you got it exactly wrong. Brown is telling all police to demonstrate their disgust. Typical liberal bullshit - an apology for (imagined wrongdoing) will make everything better because now we're all "talking."

What a bunch of shit.

Oh, Cain tried to tell God he wasn't his brother's keeper either and you can see how that worked out.

Hey Marky Boy, since you like to write about the police and scandal. I have a task for you but it involves some real investigatory skills, are you up to the task? Here are the questions:
1) Why if there is one sheriff in crook county, why four different agencies within? Crook county corrections, crook county sheriff police, crook county court services, and crook county forest preserve police. All with different uniforms, patches, vehicles and yes even stars or badges which ever you prefer to call them. Each agency has a Chief or Superintendant with all of the B.S. command positions that come with an indiviual agency.
2)Is Crook county the only county that runs its sheriff's department like this? can you find another?
3)How much tax payers money is being wasted with all of these patronage and clout positions in the management positions in each idiviual department?
4)Wouldnt it be more cost efficient to have one real Sheriff's office than four different agencies?
answer these questions without dragging the men/women pounding the streets through the mud and go after the politicians and clout people that are causing exessive taxing on the citizens of crook county.

10-1!
These are two outstanding patrolman that reguarless of climate continue to lock up bad guys, give to police causes, and would piss on Fiinigans face.
Please folks start it here!

Already we have communities in Chicago where the police are not trusted

If you think that the communities do not trust us ....then why do we have multiple bodies sleeping in our stations and outside our stations every night? I swear some nights its like tent city...........seems like they trust us .....
