Several 010th District officers left Duggan's on Halsted two nights ago and as they walked to the parkinglot a man walked up and asked them a question. The question was "hey, you guys have been drinking for 3 hrs. and your also the police- Are you guys getting into your cars and going to drive now?"
The P.O.s also noticed the microphone the reporter was holding and then the ABC 7 news truck parked on Halsted. Im sure they P.O.'s were shocked but handled it by replying...that
while yes they were coming from Duggans but No they were not going to drive they were going to Taco King for some food. The P.O.s then WALKED to taco king and ate slowly!
It appears the media is probably doing an "exclusive report" on P.O.s drinking in bars. Please watch your backs.
As far as we know, you are allowed to drink in bars. However, with the recent spotlight being shone on the Rules and Regulations (the Rule 47 thing), you are not permitted to be intoxicated on or off duty. The strictest interpretation of this rule means not in your own home while watching the Bears blow another game. Whether or not that last part would survive a court challenge is an argument for another day.
What is important to realize is that because of recent events, scandals, bad publicity, etc., we WILL be hung out to dry if found in questionable circumstances. Maybe it'll be a stint down at Call Back. Maybe it'll be thirty days, two paychecks and a fund raiser (ironically, at a bar). In the current political climate, maybe it'll be your job. And god forbid it'll be your name and face all over the news, doing a decade in prison after killing a couple of civilians in the suburbs. We had a bunch of those a year or two back if you remember.
Walk it. Cab it. Find someone to drive you home. Sleep it off at the station - you wouldn't be the first, you ain't going to be the last. Stay smart.

If it is true then it sounds like the media already did the following of these guys otherwise how did the media know they were the police, where they drink and when they got there? Which means the media already has these guys on tape from previous incidents and the bullshit interview was the end of the report not the beginning. If that is the case I'm sure we will see this on the news soon if we don't then it is all bullshit.
It is not a matter of only drinking, but drinking AND driving. Now, what we should do is find out where reporters hang out, show up with a video camera and ask them the same thing when they leave their watering holes.

What has happened in the past with POs drinking at home who have come to the attention of the Department through pissed off spouses or neighbors is:
Sergeant shows up and either does the right thing and blows it off or gets a CR# and/or orders the PO to blow.
The PO is then sent to call back. He is also told to get help. Then you are in limbo- collecting your check- until someone decides you are not or no longer a drunk.
Best bet, never, ever let the Supervisor into your home or if your sposue or neighbor calls, go out the back door and watch the Bears game in a bar.
Enough is enough ladies and gentelmen! Its time we, active and retired police officers, along with our family members and friends, to go on the offensive against this type of ambush tactic. I propose that we determine what day of the week has the highest number of viewers of the 10 PM Channel 7 newscast. On that day of the week, on a pre-determined date, we compile a list of all sponsors of that particular newscast. We then boycott each and every sponsor or advertiser for a month long period. Given the large number of our extended family this will surely have an adverse impact on those advertisers. Falling sales, along with the the publicity this will generate (thank-you SCC), and perhaps a few will re-consider their sponsorship. Surely, the sponsors' advertising departments will be screaming at those in charge of Channel 7's policy makers. This is the only way, via completely legal means, to hurt those who employ such underhanded tactics....in their corporate wallets. If the boycott is even remotely successful, you can be sure other television outlets will take notice. The beauty of this is that it can also be extended to the print media. If the Tribune wants to play harball with unfair, biased reporting, we can boycott some of their larger advertisers as well. I don't know if this post is true or not. It seems to me that if Channel 7 actually wanted these guys they wouldn't have came up to them and talked to them. Not even a star clipped next to it (not that that would make it much better). The cops get called by some locals a little freaked out that there is a guy acting like he's in some old west saloon. The cops come and OH! SHIT BIRD gets all irritated, calling the 023 guys names and telling them to "try and be the real police someday!" and we wonder why we make front page!

Graeber is a nice guy. He is from a very political family. As a PO, about 12 years ago, he worked (?) the west end of 008. As a Sgt in 002 he was given HQ security before the new building was opened. He did a good job at HQ, keeping PO’s out of the parking lot. "Haven't worked for him in years," he doesn't have that many years. I didn’t know him as a LT, but he was not a LT for long. Now a Capt. He the real deal? I don’t think so.

They've probably already filmed coppers driving drunk, weaving in traffic, pissing on the roadside, staggering away from their cars, etc. The attempts at interviews are just to get the icing on the cake -- some coppers saying something stupid.

1. Juries are regular people, what do you think their opinion of the police is? In the past, most were probably stopped on LSD or XWay by traffic cops who required a deposit for giving breaks... now, who knows with all the bad publicity, they think we are all liars/torturers/beaters etc.
2. The same juries see the City as BIG $ available for the poor downtrodden plaintiffs, there is more likely a finding against the city in ANY lawsuit, the city only wins when there is a directed verdict by the judge.
3. We don't have great witnesses.
4. In some cases, like discrimination cases, the city has to pay legal fees whether or not they win, so once the cost gets above a certain amount, they settle.

I was sold and wanted to be the police since. Now my dream is a nightmare! I dont want anyone to know Im the police. I take my uniform off as soon as I can and sit in a bubble for the next 16 hours until I go to work. Boy oh boy this is going to be a long career I just wish this was a dream and that fireman Fred came to school that day instead.

6. parked ilegaly in front of bar or on the sidewalk with 10 or more FOP stickers on the car.

Or do what I do with mine, cut them up a throw them in the trash where they belong.
I just picked up a CLERGY sticker at the Speedway gas station. I am going to put it right next to my super secret HDO sticker and my Chevy stickers it will look cool.
