Rumor - Confirmed?
Someone actually witnessed an exempt member telling people the following, and then we got another e-mail with the same story:
- ABC news crews working for 20/20 are currently in the city, following police cars and filming street stops.
- Since they can't be everywhere, they have provided or made available cameras for use by neighborhood "activists" to film police activity in the neighborhoods.
- They are looking for anything they can use to show a "Department out of control" type of atmosphere.
Don't be that officer. The old days are dead, gone and buried - don't let them bury you, too.

FYI for all the northwest siders and south west siders a car load of gypsies attempted to home invade an 86 year old man around foster/ canfield (berwyn) on 24 oct 2007 @ 1413 hrs, luckly he called out to his neighbor odpo who was outside and was able to chase off offenders 1 female and approx 4/5 males who fled in a white olds/dodge 9558687 which comes back to the southwest side. Of course 016 has no man power only paper car responded!

I see friends in the private sector that make half what I do, but they work days, have every weekend off, every holiday off, and only work 5 days a week. This department is a direct reflection of Politically connected, micro-managing city in which we work and live. Society has gotten the police force they have sue'd to get.
I spend about 5 hours of my day doing school checks, premise checks, a school dismissaland dont forget the CTA check. Then add lunch and 2 personals and travel between all those and you get the idea.
So as you see little time is left for proactive work, Traffic enforcement etc.
20/20 you can come follow me if you want to. You will be scratching you head wondering what police work has become in chicago.

Heard from a reliable source from the FBI that alot of heads from 025 are gonna roll... and has nothing to do with SOS nonsense. From what I hear, atleast apparently it is gonna basically be contained to more than a few Sgts and maybe a Lt., blue shirts will be limited to some time off, but I guess an internal audit found a lot of stripes have been holding slips when their guys are obviously not working (i.e., swiping credit cards 3 hours before checkoff at the local gin mill). This is theft and although the individual officer cannot be held accountable, (he has his Sgts permission and leaves a slip) when the slip is not put in it is an easy implication. The feds obviously arent handling this one but apparently through their investigation have been turning over nuggets to IAD and the States Attorneys office. And for whatever reason, 025 has been the sacrificial lamb. Again, the working folk have nothing to fret. However, if you have stripes and work/worked in 025 in the past 5 years, expect the worst... no word on indicting anyone, but expect quite a few headaches for a while leading up to who knows what... be careful what you say they may already know the answer. This shit is out of control! Just be careful!

You know what. Then fuck police forgiveness and police disgression. Normally, If the person or person I stop on a traffic or street stop is honest with me, polite, sorry for what they did, regretful and especially cooperative with information regarding a crime by someone else then I might be ept to look the other, turn the other cheek and let that person go. BUT KNOW, if the news media wants to pick apart the police department and critisize my every move, THEN 0 ZERO FUCKING TOLERANCE TO EVERYBODY. When people realize that we now give NO breaks whatsover and you get ever ticket, get every misd, felony charge on the book, you get your car impounded, dog seized, money seized, etc. They can blame it all on the news media. Normally, I'd say walk in the crosswalk, not in the street, dump the beer, put your dog on a leash, wear your seatbelt, take your high beams off while you drive, step on that blunt filled with cannabis, crack that glass cack pipe and seek help, walk away from the argument before you go to jail, etc etc etc. NOW ITS ZERO TOLERANCE. This will turn around and bite everybody and I mean everybody in the ass.
Simple answer: QUIT DOING STREET STOPS.
In a media that questions our right to defend ourselves when confronted with an armed criminal, how long do you think it would take for them to use footage of legit street stops against us. They already know what story they are going to put out (anti police), they are just trying to get some footage to go with it. After your legit street stop they might just approach the subject and get his "unbiased" opinion of what just happened and the legitimacy of the stop (brings to mind ops's tactic of interviewing an individual who resisted and fought with the police and lost (as he should) where he will almost always claim he was beaten without provocation). I am sure he will not fess up to being a gang member, drug dealer, or even that the police had a good reason to stop him. He was just coming home from church or teaching disabled kids at the YMCA and was a victim of the out of control police. They can even go so far as to approach the officer after the fact and ask why they stopped him. Since we are not allowed to talk with the media per general order, a polite "no comment" or no answer at all can be shown on the air to imply the officer is hiding something by not answering thereby creating a "story" even when there isnt one. We know that there are a great number of legit reasons to stop someone. You can bet that this will not be reflected in news. In other words, they dont care if you are doing your job the way you should be. They care about headlines and ratings, even at the expense of public safety (less and less police doing proactive policing= more crime) or your job. Dont forget to enforce those traffic laws when they decide to follow squad cars.
The writing on the wall keeps getting bigger and is impossible to ignore anymore.
While filming on public is not against the law, exiting a vehicle pointing objects at officers while they are engaged in lawful duties sounds a little like obstruction to me. Im sure though anything like that would get thrown out of court but we have enough aggravation on this job and really dont need anymore.

This is an open comment to the local media...The reason the Dept.is self destructing is because for years it has been run by complete incompetance.Both the POLICE AND FIRE Depts.have been ran into the ground by people that have no idea what they are doing.Does anyoune remember the Cook County building fire? i've worked in 004 and 008 they are about as equally rough but 008 does get more calls for service and they have a less p.o. per citizen ratio, i've been in 7 districts all ghetto until now and 008 was the busiest, so i think people need to give those people a break. scc I saw two guys what looked like the media videotaping at the border of the 019 district and 020 district on Lawrence avenue. a traffic car had pulled someone over and they were across the street videotaping. I would have looked into the matter but I was off duty.

I heard they were doing an exposé on police bartenders, like Terry McMahon, at TR’s Pub on 111th Street. From what I understand, a film crew was out very late at night (or very early in the morning – depends on how you look at it), and they were filming TR’s. It appears the little red light on the video camera get Ritchie Scott up all night (well that, and a ton of booze) and he jumped right out and put a stop to the documentary. I guess he was heard screaming at the film crew: “Do you know who I am, and how I got promoted – twice!!?? I am a 19th Ward guy, and I know Molloy”…

If I may, prior to becoming the police, I worked in the video/TV business. What I'm reading hear might be the works of some grass root effort-some organization that hates the police. But of course, 20/20 would be interested in buying this "juicey" footage should they get it. Let's all search the internet for sites that might be organizing it, they do it to us. I just saw bt 1631 3rd watch get out of car.....
What about the wagon crew from 012??They got called down to 35th st.and got REAMED by Charley Williams.Over a traffic stop/TVB.Turns out the ticketed driver is an attorney AND a girlfriend of some westside politician.Williams had no interest in hearing the officers side of the story,just called them down to scold,lecture and inform them that a CR# is coming down and most likely a lawsuit.This woman's beef(and William's)has mostly to do with the fact that she and her kids were transported in a squadrol!!Good going Charley.....you pretty much ensured that these two officers(one a PPO,filling in on the wagon),will probably never do a fucking thing again in their careers!!You sir,have vindicated every useless dogass on this job.

I really don't care what you do. Do you think that the citizens of Chicago owe you something? This is a job, at least do the part your able to do since your not into cops and robbers anymore. 004 is desolate. If you're talking about the physical condition of the land where steel mills once dominated the area, then yes, 004 is rougher. The only thing actually worse in 004 is the stench that permeates 90% of that Godforsaken plot of ravaged land. As far as real crime and calls for service go, 004 is only a fraction of the 008th district. That's why the rest of the city ignores 004, we're trying to forget you exist over there in "West Gary."

Does anyone know who the M/2 ,lives in the 5500 Block of sout Austin, drives a black SUV, I think a Caddy Escalade. Plenty of times I've seen him driving like a huge tool( I'm off duty ). Like a shithead, he has to be the first at the light, drives thru red-lights, to pass someone up - drives in opposing lanes of traffic. Crazy speeder, and if you try to get a look at him to see who's driving, he gives you "the look", then speeds off like a bitch. I ran the plate
(some time ago), he lives in 5500 block of Austin, italian last name. Oh yea, the most important thing - he has FOP medallion on back, and hat band on rearview mirror. The hat band made me think he was not the police. Only a certain set use that to identify themselves as P.O. and they aint 2's.
Back to this nut driver -I looked him up on the Dept listing - not there.
A criminal records check showed he was charged with a felony - I think it was "Bribery" or some official offense.
I can't remember the last name or plate #. I have seen him in the hood, but he drives like a tool, so I can't get the plate again. Want to attend the next beat meeting to see if the beat guys can curb his attitude. He's gonna hurt someone real soon.

Reminds me of the time on the westside when we were hunting the killer of a PO. Everytime there would be any kind of radio traffic regarding operations the camera crews raced the police to the site (search, meets etc.). One pretty savy Cpt, (when there were real Captains) arranged with the tact people to broadcast phony meets etc. One of these "sites" was on a narrow street. The media vans pulled behind the first tac car. A squad pulled behind the media vans and can you imagine, the keys for both of the police vehicles got lost. Took about 2 hours for someone to retrieve the spares from the station.

The Media is very upset with the fact that we, The Police, have a way, via this site and the Internet, of showing how much full of BS they are. They are now in attack mode against us and use their airwaves to try and knock us down and make themselves feel important. They realize that their monopoly in the media is coming to an end and it upsets them. It makes them feel like they are brave and courageous when they attack the Police knowing that we cannot attack the back. They are ashamed that they do not have the GUTS to attack real criminals because it may put them in harms way so they take the easy way out and go after who who have the GUTS to tackle crime but have something to lose. The Chuck Goudie expose on ABC7 is something the citizens of the City need to see. The powers that bee'z (STARKS/GREEN/BALL) [notice a pattern] find it neccessary to reduce a SWAT team that in fact needs to double in size and provide for Critical incident events. There are police departments that regularly provide up to 5% of their manpower to an Emergency Services Unit, yet CPD is at less than half a percent, yes less than .5% dedicated to readiness for terrorism, HBT call-outs, School violence incidents, or rescuing of downed officers (ala Det Joe Airhart)
Many of you guys on this blog could care less for SWAT officers and regularly mock them on this blog; but here's a good example of how the Shitty doesn't give a rats bunghole about your safety or the threat around us. They really believe we are not a target.
The brass of course will spin this expose to show that they are on top of things and trust me there will be an announcement for entry to the SWAT team; SOON !
If you apply you might as well take a loan for about 3 grand, cause they'll expect you to provide for your own gear. Another indicator that they don't give a F@#$ for you. Then there's the phone calls in the middle of the night to respond to jobs in your own car, ..etc.etc.etc.etc.
And to make things better, the SWAT interview will be held by RISLEY and CHISLEHEADSKY (SP), both of which haven't the slightest F@#$in idea what SWAT does and regularly attach anchors onto the program in an effort to stunt its progress.
Is it not important for the SWAT operators to inspect their prospective collegues? ---the ones that they will trust in the fight ?!
When it come to matters of SWAT, RISLEY and CHISELHEADSKY (sp) are about as competent as Mermaidman and Barnacle boy !

UPDATE: Apparently the States Attorneys office was in 025 front office earlier today nosing around and asking questions about time keeping procedures. They didnt have a warrant as far as the information I have (which came from an officer who works in the front office) and werent pressing to see anything, but were VERy interested in the policy in which time due is taken off a POs books, and how slips are accounted for, and where old slips are stored etc etc... only reasonable assumption is it is a prelude for things to come. They also were asking if these procedures were practiced city wide and were very concerned as to the time frame in which a Sgt has to turn in a time due request from the previous shift. Id say this should be a warning to all with chevrons. But we shall see. Be careful!

Dont forget to add the soft ball who lives on 64th Street who has the Mercedes SUV who thinks he is above the law- add him to the list. Hat band over the rear view mirror, and he is a carpenter or laborer.
Couple of years ago when I was a kool-aid drinking, true believer (turned into a bounty hunter-looking for court time). I'd pull over those who sported Hat Bands over the rear view mirror or FOP medalions. Got 2 stolen star's and a pistol. Would also do the False Personation, and Inventory the Hat Band and FOP medalions. When I called Operations Command I was told that there were hundreds of lost/missing/stolen stars floating around. Always ask for the ID to go with the star.
If I ever get to work in 008 I will look for this guy.
Pulled over a few CPD, and all thanked me for asking to see an ID. Suprisingly one even told me it was a G.O. that was a Star and ID are to be carried together.
No self-respecting copper is gonna fly a hat band over his/her rear view mirror.

I have no idea why 025 is such a lightning rod for controversy. It's a mystery.
What isn't a mystery is why 025 has the worst group of sergeants in the entire city. The "inner circle" either micro-manage and nitpick, or they do absolutely nothing - except take turns letting each other work a half a shift.
The 3rd watch Aparachiks - "C.H.", "R.S", "W.M." and "G.C." - Apparatchiks are notorious for not backing up their P.O's and for being irritated if, and when, their "expertise" is called for. Hell they barely make an effort to listen to the radio!
"C.H." was supposed to be indicted last year because of some connections to a pawn shop that the feds were investigating. So far he's still around and up to his old tricks. He's the best Officer in the city - just ask him!
There are a few exceptional sgts in 025 - Olive and Al come to mind. You can have the rest!

Just saw the ABC 7 (I-Team report) by Chuck Goudie on the 10:00 PM newscast.
I thought it was informative. Many thought it was going to be a typical Goudie "hatchet job."
It didn't paint the officers in a negative light. It just made Dana Starks look like a racist "hater" who is funking things up!
The sad thing is this city is so unprepared for anything from a public safety standpoint.
I mean the LaSalle bank marathon last month was a prime example.
Another example, No Air unit. Ours doesn't count, a surplus helo kept flying with bandaids and bubblegum and staffed with "cloutbabies."
When many other large cities have several in the air at any given time 24/7.
Now causing irrepairable harm to SWAT team by mucking it up.
This city needs NEW leadership.
Other cities spend money on Air Units and SWAT teams!
Mayor Daley and the crooks on city council spend money on "hired trucks" and "politically connected sham minority contracting firms."

Something as simple as pulling behind a officers who are engaged in a stop with multiple suspects and exiting the vehicle pointing objects at them could be construed as obstruction. You have to be able to articulate how their presence and actions interfered with your stop. I was pointing out that it could fit the criterea and will be another added hassle to our jobs if this police hunt takes place. An arrest on this will not likely get past the approval of the WC not because a lack of merit, but because of the potential backlash that he could take from the higher ups if this was made an issue. If it got to the court level, the judges and states attorneys would throw it out, again not just on merit (remember the principal who was correctly arrested for making a false 911 call, judge tossed it and she sued and got her pay day).These days with frivolous lawsuits and lack of dept. support, I am not a fan of any arrest in which the arresting officer is the complainant.

Does anyone know who the M/2 ,lives in the 5500 Block of sout Austin, drives a black SUV, I think a Caddy Escalade. Plenty of times I've seen him driving like a huge tool( I'm off duty ). Like a shithead, he has to be the first at the light, drives thru red-lights, to pass someone up - drives in opposing lanes of traffic. Crazy speeder, and if you try to get a look at him to see who's driving, he gives you "the look", then speeds off like a bitch. I ran the plate
(some time ago), he lives in 5500 block of Austin, italian last name. Oh yea, the most important thing - he has FOP medallion on back, and hat band on rearview mirror. The hat band made me think he was not the police. Only a certain set use that to identify themselves as P.O. and they aint 2's.
Back to this nut driver -I looked him up on the Dept listing - not there.
A criminal records check showed he was charged with a felony - I think it was "Bribery" or some official offense.
I can't remember the last name or plate #. I have seen him in the hood, but he drives like a tool, so I can't get the plate again. Want to attend the next beat meeting to see if the beat guys can curb his attitude. He's gonna hurt someone real soon.

Thankyou for th kind words, it is few and far between. We chased a juvenile gangmember with a shag yesterdaya nd wehn we finally caught him he yelled and screamed "what is you badge number?" "you cant chase me, my teacher told us that you have no right to ask us anything!" This coming from a SD gangmember running through senior citezns yards with a bat. I am done running and I am done talking.

??? this guy has been nothing but a gentleman to me and my partners, i'm never afraid to ask him a question and he complements us on good work? I don't get it.
With nearly 10-years on this job...despite all the bad. I still go out and try my best to lock-up the worst. I will not faulter or fail.. Screw u media!

nice post, do your best thats all you can do. if you get burned out take a break, no person at any job can give 100% forever but you do your best.one person will love you for it and another person will hate you, but as long as you can sleep at night everything is well.
