FoxNews noted that of the thousands of news articles printed, not one mentions that although the State of Nebraska allows concealed carry for its citizens, property owners are permitted to ban guns if they so choose.
Instapundit speculates that this could possibly open up private property owners to liability claims. The argument that by removing the ability for citizens to protect themselves AND failing to provide adequate security to replace the personal firearms carried by otherwise law abiding citizens bears close watching, especially in light of the case about to be heard by the US Supreme Court.

He used words like "WE" "OUR" "Its our Time" in his address to a South Carolina audience. What I want to know who is "we"? Who was he refering to when he said it "our time"? Matthew Murray, the shooter in the Colorado Springs church shootings, was shot and killed by an armed, female security guard, Jeanne Assam, at the church. As the gunman was carrying a couple of pistols and a rifle, one can only guess how many lives she saved that day.
People need to understand that "gun free zones" are soft targets for criminals and terrorists. Let the law abiding citizens carry concealed so they can protect themselves from lunatics like this and save other lives.

A panel of former federal, state and local law-enforcement officials has been named by Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon to devise a way to enable Phoenix police officers to question and detain illegal aliens and notify federal immigration officials that they did so.
The panel's creation comes in the wake of an announcement last week by Mr. Gordon that he has changed his mind concerning the city's status as a "sanctuary city," a policy that prevents officers from enforcing immigration laws.
Mr. Gordon told reporters during a press conference he could no longer support the city's 15-year-old sanctuary policy, saying that although "it was right for local law enforcement and our community" when written, circumstances are now different.
"It was written in another time — and it was based on the premise that the federal government would fulfill all its responsibilities regarding enforcement," he said. "Obviously, that has changed."

If Ald. Edward Burke (14th) and Ald. Isaac Carothers (29th) are successful in pushing their legislation, the measure may pre-empt a similar proposal being sought by the city in contract negotiations with the Fraternal Order of Police.

A police uniform is not just a set of clothes, but an emblem of authority that conveys "special powers and deference in our society" - and that means the officer should be paid for the time needed to put it on and take it off, says a federal judge in San Francisco.
U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel ruled in favor of police in San Leandro who sued for about a half-hour per day of paid "donning and doffing" time - either as part of their shifts or as premium pay.
The ruling "ensures that officers get a fair day's pay for a fair day's work," said Alison Berry Wilkinson, a lawyer for the officers.
But Kathy Mount, San Leandro's lawyer, said Patel left room for the city to argue that the process takes so little time that it shouldn't be compensated. Mount said the city would try to persuade the judge that putting on and taking off uniforms and mandatory protective gear takes only 10 minutes. San Leandro officers have estimated that they need 25 to 35 minutes a day.
Patel's ruling also conflicts with an earlier decision by another judge in the same courthouse. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ruled in August that police in Richmond did not have to be paid for time spent putting on and removing their uniforms, but might be entitled to compensation for time needed to attach safety equipment such as guns, holsters, handcuffs and helmets. He said police must be paid if they have to put on that equipment at the station.
Putting on and taking off a uniform is not "integral and indispensable" to police work, the standard established by the Supreme Court in compensation cases, Breyer said.
In her ruling Friday, Patel said she disagreed with Breyer. A police uniform, along with safety gear, makes up an officer's survival suit, she said. It deters crime by letting everyone know the officer holds a law enforcement job, and it includes the equipment needed to catch criminals, she said.
She cited past rulings requiring employers to pay workers for the time they need to put on protective clothing in a battery plant and a silicon chip factory.
The suit was filed by Greg Lemmon, president of the San Leandro Police Officers Association, on behalf of the 54 patrol officers in the department.
Wilkinson said all police departments specify the type of uniform officers must wear and the equipment they must carry, but only a few pay for their time. Berkeley sets aside 20 minutes of each shift for uniform-related compensation, she said, and the California Highway Patrol pays uniformed officers a 3.5 percent premium.
She said an appeals court would probably have to decide the issue in light of the conflict with Breyer's ruling, and with a ruling by another federal judge last month in a suit by police in San Diego.

So I've dutifully registered 5 firearms now and one is coming up for renewal.
What I'm curious about is how this information is used. When officers are dispatched to a house are they advised that the owner has registered firearms?
If so, how does their approach to the situation differ based on that information? I'm just a civvy, but I'd think they'd approach each situation as if there were firearms present. I gotta imagine that for all the people like myself that comply, there are many that do not and hope to fly under the radar.

As a citizen who has long resented the fact that he can't own a pistol in this town, the only thing which has kept me from getting active on this issue is that I am told regularly, by the media, by friends, by the politicians, and even by some police organizations, that police officers really prefer gun control. That's something I pay attention to. I mean, I can understand why police officers don't want pistols out there, since there's a pretty good chance the pistol will end up being pointed at the police officers.
Am I wrong? Do most police officers prefer a citizenry armed with pistols?

If you are the police, I would suggest you check out the article on Policeone.com about this subject. Can one person armed with a 5 shot revolver stop a man with a rifle? Yes, why? Because someones got to do it. Read the studies on the what happens when a lone gunman encounters armed resistance. Almost always he has to stop what he's doing, namely hurting innocent people, and address that armed person.
Can a person armed with a pistol kill a offender armed with a long gun at long distance? Look for the Air Force SP who shot and killed an offender (5murders) at over 75 yards. He fired 4 and hit twice. It's all mindset.
Now that Sgt. Herman is a convicted felon, we need to watch carefully and take note of the prison sentence he receives.
My guess is he will get more prison time for having an affair with a crack whore, than Bobby Rush's kid who was arrested for having sex with multiple female inmates while he was a jail guard.

Judge Claps also ripped two detectives who testified on Herman's behalf, saying, "Their testimony is unbelievable and incredible, and I reject it."
One detective, Constance Besteda, testified the victim asked for $5,000 in exchange for dropping the charges against Herman. The woman, meanwhile, claimed the detective offered her a bribe.
"Any allegations regarding Detective Besteda's actions will be investigated by Internal Affairs," said police spokeswoman Monique Bond.

First, the detectives were NOT testifying on behalf of HERMAN.
They were reporting what happened during their investigation. I was also present in Area 2 working on a different case as this case was in progress there.

And, once again, the talking heads focus on city residents being sold handguns when their FOID's show there home address to be within the city.
Now, who's to say a FOID card holder residing within the city limits isn't buying that handgun and storing it outside the city limits with a friend or relative blessed with not living in the city?
Of course, the simplest solutions to this inconvenience are, like the shop in Elmwood Park, for the gun dealer to refuse to sell handguns to FOID card holders with a city address and for these same customers to travel a bit farther and give their business to shops farther outside the city's borders.
Hell, all these 'too close to Chicago' shops have to do is relocate farther North, West or South.
Sure, we all know that city residents in great numbers ignore the city's 'moratorium' on accepting handgun registrations, but, what actual percentage of these 'unregistered' handguns are used in the actual commission of authentic criminal acts and what percentage are never seen or used?
Maybe, just maybe, the Supreme Court will render moot all these bullshit laws which deny the citizens their 2nd Amendment Right to Keep AND Bear Arms.

Epstein has been a serious police hater since i've been on this job. if I was a civilian who was on the hook for a serious charge in which the police were the only witnesses against me...I'd pray, beg, borrow, cheat, or steal (again ha ha ha) to get my case sent to his room. I've heard him say to an open court that the officer's testimony was "shaky at best." what a liberal asshole. I do like a few judges though...LoCallo comes to mind as one of the police friendly judges.

What's even greater is the Detective from Area 1 (R.D) is the son of a person who owns a body shop in 009. Guess which body shop repairs all CPD squad cars with body damage. You guessed it the same body shop owned by R.D's dad. Think how much money is being overcharged to the city for the shoddy work this body shop does on the squad cars. R.D. was always a little know it all bitch.
