Political Settlement
- The city will pay $19.8 million to settle with four African-American men who allegedly were tortured for their confessions by former police Cmdr. Jon Burge.
The settlement total, which is expected to be considered by the City Council next week, exceeds the amount paid to the family of LaTanya Haggerty, who mistakenly was fatally shot by police in 1999. They received a record $18 million in 2001.
In typical City Hall fashion, the news of the big payout came on a Friday afternoon, and also while Mayor Richard Daley was out of town and unavailable for comment. The Daley administration insisted the timing was coincidental.
Bwahahaha. That last paragraph is such a pile of horseshit, it's a wonder anyone continues to print it - certainly, no one believes it anymore, right?
Anyway, this is a clearing of the decks so the new Superintendent can come on board with a reasonable clean slate and not have to deal with the baggage of previous Department administrations. The right move? We think not. But will it shut some people up? Probably. And it'll protect a whole bunch of people, too, starting with the garden gnome on the 5th floor of City Hall.

The F.O.P. is NOT insured for such bad management choices as fireing a female pregnant lawyer requesting maternity leave even though she volunteered to work in the office 1 day a wk and work from home by phone and computer. She only asked for the same benefit that is granted to all represented F.O.P. Sworn Union employees. The initial settlement agreement was $12,000.00 USC and She would have been gone, but OUR F.O.P. decided "NO, were goin to court, were gonna win". You tell me officers does this sound like a prudent financial decision? Was it brought to the membership? Is anyone going to tell us about it!!!
Officers make your own decisions on the matter, it is all public record. I find it inexcusable as a dues paying member of F.O.P. to have to endure this type of fiscal mismanagement of our UNION DUES!

I hope a good portion of this money goes to OJ to conduct a search for the mass murderers that committed the murders that Aaron Patterson, Stanley Howard, Leroy Orange and Madison Hobley did not commit.

MINOCQUA, Wis. - Dozens of drivers made a mad rush for cheap gas after a station employee accidentally changed the price to 33 cents a gallon.

An employee closing Trig's Minocqua Shell for the night mistakenly entered the price of a gallon of gasoline as 32.9 cents instead of $3.299 on Monday night.
He left about 10 p.m., but drivers could still use their credit cards to buy gas.
Word of the bargain spread fast in the rural northern Wisconsin community, with 42 people buying 586 gallons of gas in an hour and 45 minutes. One person had pumped 27 gallons and two purchased 18 gallons.
Local police saw the horde at the station and called store manager Andrea Reuland, who went to the station and pushed the emergency stop.
"There were cars two deep at each of my pumps," said Reuland, who knew many of the drivers and told them they were being dishonest — the main store sign had the correct price.
"I was very upset that there's that many dishonest people," she said. "They knew there was a problem, and they took advantage of an employee's mistake and I think that's terrible."
The employee, who has been there for about six months, had changed the gas prices 25 times in the past six months.
"It was an honest mistake," Reuland said. "I could have done it."
Area residents were still talking about it Friday morning.
"Was it you guys?" a woman in the station asked Reuland. "Why do I always miss the good stuff?"

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids city manager has fired four male police officers at the center of a departmental sex scandal.
Kurt Kimball earlier accepted the resignations of another male officer, a male dispatcher and a female dispatcher accused of having on-the-job straight and homsexual sex with the six men at police headquarters.
Kimball says the four fired officers violated city employee guidelines for behavior, embarrassed the police department and tarnished the city's image.
The city opened its investigation in August after the female dispatcher resigned.
The police department has about 330 uniformed officers and 100 civilian employees.

You don't pay dues to get the association to do anything about promotions. The city has no legal oblication to discuss promotion issues with the union.

I work in Area Four. I wasn't personally involved in the Nailah Franklin investigation but I watched with admiration as it was conducted in a methodical and professional manner. I would like to compliment all the Detectives and Supervisors involved on the successful resolution of this case. I am proud to be working alongside you. By the way, RP may have fooled MM and other media suckers but he never had any of us fooled.

I'm not surprised this payout occurred. Daley and Devine knew what Burge and co. were doing to people in Area 2. Not that these shithead murderers deserve any sympathy, but Burge and Area 2 were quite out of control back in the day. I promised myself I wuld never comment on this blog but I have to say this. I assume the majority of the very young CPD were not around when Burge was working. I also assume that while you were growing up you were bombarded by the lies and falsehoods that the media spurted out on a daily basis. Cop killer Andrew Wilson died in prison last week. I would like my union to do some police work and have our union lawyers through the freedom of information act or court proceedings find out were the mutt died at.
Mr. Wilson was awarded damages from alledged torture by our organization. I feel any compensation he recieved should be made known to the hospital that treated him and to the tax payers of Illinois. His estate should be charged for his incarceration and medical treatment when living an easy life at the IDOC.
Lets request reimbursement for his
prosecution. Let the city seek the cost of the burials and medical benefits paid out to the deceased officers families.

The victims and/or their families should immediately hire an Attorney and sue the offenders, obtaining summary judgement against them. Then when these POS bottom feeder lawyers sue 20 years later and obtain these settlements then the city can just send the check to the real VICTIMS of these crimes.

How about the families of the fifteen people murdered by the four men about to come into 20 million dollars courtesy of Mr. Daley and his aldermen. The cases have all been reinvestigated, the facts remain the same these men are the killers, nothing has been proven otherwise. Anybody know a god lawyer, the settlement belongs to the victims families.......
I fully expect Jon Burge to be indicted in the not too distant future. Especially if the Democrats win the White House next year.

Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot we're not the crybaby 9 month a year straight days, weekends and all holidays off teachers, the bus drivers, garbagemen, or the I sleep while I work, do Non-Union scab tradesmen-work with all my free time off, while I talk my pro-Union shit,and work my real job maybe 50 days a year while living outside the city most the time firemen. We can just wait for our raise, as long as the real Unions are taken care of.
