In the middle of my career I knew almost 95% of the promotees.

Both were on the list in rank order....number 1 was Biggane.
Sean #13 and Lavoy #4 on the list. NO MERIT WITH THEM! Two smart guys that studied hard. We're not given the test answers either! Will make great LT's that will look out for the troops. Workers, street cops, NOT house mouses or clout babies. These are guys that you want to be promoted, trust me. Congrats!

Why is it every time a promotion list comes out some crybaby has to belittle somebody who just got promoted?
I am a working copper who has no clout, but you know what, who cares! That is the way the cookie crumbles. If someone who knows someone gets promoted, why do you care?
The working police take orders everyday, they answer their calls, do what they are told to do, deal with the incopetent bosses and good bosses.
That is just part of the job. I guess everything is going to change. Daley is going to change everything to save votes. But one thing will never change.
People with juice will always will be taken care of. Shackman or no Shackman, that is the Shitcago way!

The entire Lt's test was based on opinion not G.O.'s or rules ®s, law or anything objective. The only question that there was an objective answer was the robbery question.
Which 3 things would you read at roll call? DIBS,DOC,Daily Bulletin. Not the contact card with the homicide offenders address which was not on any of the other forms.
Anyone who answered that question correctly was given the answer. No cop would bypass giving info out on homicide offender that happened in your district.

I'll help a bit more, I know for fact that Casey was #2 on the list and Garrido was #3. I don't know their exact scores but I know Wojick and Godsel were were both in the top 20 too, so those 4 were NOT merit.
I can verify that West, Valdez, and Carothers are all at least TWICE merit promoted now. One "bite of the apple" my ass...

It's easy to score #2 when you get to take the test at home with a good friend of yours making sure you're not cheating. Oh did I forget to mention that that good friend also helped design the test. A chimp could get #2 with that arrangement.

For us that have never been to 011,The Wild Wild West, can you tell me who this AZ and TS are and why they are hated? They must be major jaggoffs. I read there initials on bathroom walls at26/Cal, 001, 010, 018, and 023.
Amazing numbers 30 Lt's slots are open. That means we are still ten short. So to settle the lawsuits the city makes the next ten in line since they werethe ones harmed by the merit selections The city still get their merits in and the numbers are what the wanted in the 1st place.

These four people were merit. Know it for a fact. Anthony Carothers
M/1, Errol Davis M/1, Osvaldo Valdez M/4, Linda Flores F/4. So, at LEAST 4 out of 6 merit promotions went to minorities. That makes up 66% of the merit promotions. Percentage could be higher if we find out who the last two merit people were. This is fair? The city would never dare to make almost 70% of merit promotions white people.
Kenin Hannagin, great guy. He's got his annoying quirks like every other Sgt, but overall a great supervisor. He has a great personality and is not a jaggoff like the other 80% of this department. I'm sure he'll make a great LT. He made it legit too, no merit.

Does it really matter if someone is promoted because of merit or their score. Just look at SGT Y. W. from the academy now in 22 she was #12, didn't make it on merit. The test goes out to all the bosses and they give the test to whoever they want. The ones they want promoted who are too stupid or drunk to memorize the answers get merit.

Comgrats Patty Casey. It pays to be in the Capt Jan study group huh? Is it true that she was on the committee to develop the test and signed a paper that she wouldnt do a study group but did anyway.. I hear it was made up of 6 female sgts. 5 scored in the top 100 (and one failed) how is that right???
Patty Casey #2 rank order. A former detective and tactical officer. She is a hard worker, by the book. Husband, daughter and son-in-law all POs. She studied and studied and studied for over a year. 6 weeks before the multiple choice (1st part) she had 2 brain surgeries and continued to study while recovering in hospital. She is dedicated and also a peer counselor. She is fair and compassionate. Her youngest daughter is a special needs child the result from medical malpractice at birth. This daughter who was written off by the same medical world has exceeded all expectations because of Patty and her family. She also got her college completed on the job. She is a strong, independent person who cares. On this job that will only limit her future. She also initiated, orgranized and led detective and sergeant study groups for POs. All the above is easily verifiable. Don't paint her with the same brush as the merit and others who had prior test knowledge.
Bill Looney was the Community Policing sergeant in 019. Was a great cop and knows how to treat police officers right. He is off the list.
Why is everyone so angry? I also took the test. Twice as a matter of fact. I honestly thought I aced it, but scored in the 200's. Brent and I got on the job together and made Sergeant together. Neither of us had any clout or any special treatment. As for Adducci, that man studied his ass off for a year. He ate, drank, and slept general orders. I don't think studying any harder would have helped me, because I still believe I answered the questions correctly, however, to take anything away from the Sergeants who were fortunate enough to be promoted is just juvenile. As far as meritorious Sergeants, I'm not a big fan of the whole practice, but since it does exist, why be angry with the Segeants fortunate enough to get a meritorious nomination. I'd certainly rather be promoted based on my score, but I highly doubt any of us would refuse a meritorious nomination. When are we going to grow up and back one another up? No wonder the media draggs us through the coals on a daily basis! We do it to our own!

1120 AZ isnt that bad, just a nut case. Aslong as you know what your doing and dont need him you are fine. 1130 JT is a complete stroke. He will pick on PO's with little or no time on, and than he will find 30 sector guys and stroke there ego just so he has some backup. 1130 will not let his cars answer jobs in other sectors and tells dispatch to hold the jobs. He hides behind his stripes and even off duty her tries to jam up coppers. He tried to pull over another cop while riding in his personal car. When that other PO told him to get bent he wrote the plate down, ran it, found out it was a PO from a southside district, than called the Cpt of said district and wanted that PO sparred. Needless to say the Cpt laughed in his face. This is a guy that was screwing around with his partners women, a truly ball-less man. Its funny cause I will here him call for assist unit and you will see cars turn the other way, we would love to see him get beat like the bitch he is. Oh I know you read this JT and you know who I am in 011, come see me if you have the sack. Trust me he wont, he will go to Cpt Hart and cry. Hahahaha
I don't know their exact scores but I know Wojick and Godsel were were both in the top 20 too, so those 4 were NOT merit.

WRONG! Wojick is a merit guy, bet on it. I'm not complaining, because he may be one of the few whose resume actually deserves ( if there is such a thing ) a merit promotion, but I know he bombed the test. Good guy and I wish him the best. He'll be a boss in the D soon enough and I'd work for him in a minute.

Patty Casey #2 rank order. A former detective and tactical officer. She is a hard worker, by the book. Husband, daughter and son-in-law all POs. She studied and studied and studied for over a year. 6 weeks before the multiple choice (1st part) she had 2 brain surgeries and continued to study while recovering in hospital. She is dedicated and also a peer counselor. She is fair and compassionate. Her youngest daughter is a special needs child the result from medical malpractice at birth. This daughter who was written off by the same medical world has exceeded all expectations because of Patty and her family. She also got her college completed on the job. She is a strong, independent person who cares. On this job that will only limit her future. She also initiated, orgranized and led detective and sergeant study groups for POs. All the above is easily verifiable. Don't paint her with the same brush as the merit and others who had prior test knowledge.

YW was number 20. Yes, she was a psychotic lunatic in the 6th District working tact. She stalked the hell out of one of the tact guys that was on her team, now sgt. Her list of bosses are as long as the restaurants visited by Superintendent Cline. The Academy had at least 9 P.P.O.'s make official complaints against her, and coincidentially they were either very attractive women who reminded her of her old age and faded made up looks, or either young guys who had no interest in the miles.

It's only 9 years ago she had a pillow and keys to the USPS yard on her 1st Watch beat in 012. Now she's in IAD and it's all legit. The best part is she was merit and in the first class on all three tests. Now that's juice.

Here's the Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! I'm a northsider working in A/4 for the last 9 years. I would rather drive to A/1 than the short commute to A/5. Why? Because no matter what Hawk, Holy, Sam, Terry, etc. do to straighten that place out....it still has the same shitty detectives. Who the fuck would want to work in that culture. I worked in 015 & 025 before I made dick. I would rather have driven to A/2 than work with those assholes in A/5. Try to find one policeman from any of Area 5's Districts that want go there when they make dick.
Regardless of what we think about merit, who someone's clout is, how much of a street copper a boss is etc., I wish you guys would wake up and see that we are under attack as a whole. The city is trying to take our rights in every capacity, then they give us a 1 - 3 percent raise when inflation goes up a minimum of 3 percent each year. We need to direct our efforts at saving and protecting our own asses, no matter what rank. Pay attention to the other blogs that reflect good information on how we are being targeted, then stand up and do something. Hell, call your Alderman and tell them we need more than a 3 percent raise, I know the last raise they got was in double digits.
Why doesnt Sneed write about how we are made to live in the city, but we cannot afford to live in the descent neighborhoods, so we have to play police at home, our kids are targeted at school and since we work at least 1 part time job, our kids are left to be raised from the phone by most of the fathers on the job.

They probably had a valid beef but someone kept taking cheapshots on this board .... making us all look bad by airing our dirty laundry... thinking somehow it would 'fix' things. It did not. I think the new boss has made things much better .... a much less cutthroat place to work. I know of very few dics who purposely blow off good pinches in Area 5. I, for one, error on the other side by progressing through cases that have little chance of approval. You probably know 5-10% of the Dics currently working in A/5 ... so move along .... goof.
I have no problem w/ a good guy getting A merit spot. It's better thatn some shitbird who tested well. But taking 2 merit promotions??? Hell, I can name one guy who took 3 merit bites .... Det, Sgt, and Lt... Not sure how a double or triple merit can look himslef in the mirror in the morning ....
I, personally, would not take any merit offering ...
A watch commander exists in a far south side district (and it isn't 005 or 022) who was promoted meritoriously from Sgt. to Lt. to Capt. AND HE'S NOT BLACK EITHER.
So much for minorities moving ahead thru the merit system.

The funny thing with all these haters is that Sgt. Valdez (soon to be Lt.) was one of the best and knowledgeable sergeants in NAGIS. The officers / agents that didn’t like him are the ones that didn’t do shit but wanted to be treated as if they did. If you were a working officer he left you alone but if you were a dog he got in your ass (as a boss should do.) As for the Agg. Batt that occurred on Sgt. Valdez’s watch, Sgt. Valdez had every angle covered. Maybe other’s who were surveillance that day dropped the ball (not Sgt. Valdez.) Put the blame where it belongs. Sad thing is that even with all these negative post, Sgt. Valdez would still find a way to help a fellow officer out of trouble. Officers have to stop listening to jealous officers and continue to do the job they were hired to do. Stay safe and hug your family each and every time you make it back home. Sgt. Valdez, congrats on a position well deserved. I’m sure you’ll make a great Lt.
