Snow Tows

We were reading in the comments about how a number of coppers refused to write "Snow Tow" tickets and tow reports as their own protest against the blatant money maker that snow tows represent.

If we aren't mistaken, Streets and Sanitation supervisors carry ticket books and write parkers not only for street sweeping days, but various temporary "No Parking" zones near construction sites also. Do the Traffic Management Authority tow trucks in the Central Business district have the same authorization to ticket and tow cars downtown? Then there was the proposal to outfit automated parking ticket cameras in CTA buses to ticket bus stop violators.

It would seem that police are being further phased out of some of the more "money intensive" ticket writing violations. After all, the old timers remember the meter maids and the hue-and-cry raised when they were allowed to do something that had been previously permitted only to the police.

As I have said before, go ahead, stop DOING YOUR JOB, a job you swore an oath to perform, let the civilian forces write all the tickets. Before you know it, they sure won't be increasing the number of police, they can cut the numbers significantly if YOU let others take over your basic responsibilities and they discover that they can get a revenue worker or s&s worker for half the price. WAY TO GO Stupid.

GET SMART already, start thinking about what you are saying. I hate to even put this on the blog, but I can't be the only person around reading it that can see the bigger picture here.

I was talking with some other coppers over breakfast about refusing to write snow tickets. If there isn't any snow, why tow cars and/or ticket them? I don't think they understood what I was saying. Instead they called me bitter....

Along the same lines as cops being usurped of their power to write tickets by other entities, where do various other "policing bodies" such as UIC campus 'police,' for example, fit in? Do they have the same powers as CPD? Less?

SCC asked: Do the Traffic Management Authority tow trucks in the Central Business district have the same authorization to ticket and tow cars downtown?

Yes they do. I write several 'RUSH HOURs" most days that I work. The Tow drivers have ticket books, and can call the shot when its time to ticket and tow a vehicle. According to the newer drivers they have a "Target" number of tows to get a day. I called to have one towed yesterday on Wells and waited 3 minutes for the hook.

I love and honor all Police who won't write a snow tow. GOD bless you. Write a newspaper employee instead. They are crucifying you. If I have a chance to hurt any newspaper person (legally), I will do it. Retiree of CPD PS. I did have a couple children and look and see!!! They just threw some newspeople out of some VIP events. Chicago, the city that works. What goes around just might come around.
