Thank You for Your Patronage

  • Nearly 150 cars were towed from city streets Saturday morning on the first day of Chicago's winter overnight parking ban.

The winter parking ban went into effect 3 a.m. Saturday. From 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. every night until April 1, parking is banned on 107 miles of critical arterial streets, in the event that snow needs to be cleared from these streets.

On Saturday, the first day of the ban, 149 cars were towed, according to a release from the Department of Streets and Sanitation.

Automobile owners who have their cars towed from these locations face a $150 minimum towing fee, in addition to a $50 ticket and an initial $10 daily storage fee.
So here we have it:
  • Towing fee: $150.00
  • Ticket: $50.00
  • Storage Fee: $10.00
One-hundred forty-nine cars equals $31,290. On behalf of the mayor (who just raised taxes about $200 million) thank you for your support.

when will people learn that the city is not your friend.

and remember one fact of life, the cost of living always goes up never down.

I remember at the last city meeting..there was talk of trying to raise all those prices.

because it was said that citizens are trying to beat the system .

the fact is people make mistakes, some times they don't see the no parking signs or they can't make it back to their meters

but the leaders of this city think you people are just assholes

I apologize for being off topic. But in response to letters written to Iowa Gov Chet Culver re Mike Mette, I just got a form letter from one James C Larew, General Counsel.

It said in part, that "Mr Mette should work with his attorney to see what options may be available to him under Iowa law", claiming that "as an Executive Officer for the State of Iowa, the Governor's influence in legal matters is very limited."

I find this hard to believe, as surely the Governor would have the power to either commute a State sentence or issue a full pardon on a State charge.

Has anyone else gotten this same letter?

Tonight I was driving Eastbound on Chicago Ave. and on the northside of the 1300 block I noticed the city just put up a bunch of parking meters where there weren't any.

Daley is going to have every square of curb space in this city metered.

I remember when i first started i would see and hear the old timers complain about things and tell me that the job sucks now and how 'when they came on, it was the best.' I didn't care, i loved it. I couldn't believe the thrill you could get out there on the streets. It was the closest thing to a "high" i would ever experience.
I worked with exceptional people and worked hard and laughed all tour long. Of course as the years went by the thrill subsided some and things weren't as exciting as they once were. But i always managed to get a good laugh in every day and form good solid friendships with my coworkers.

Around the 5-10 year mark i notice a lot of PO's start becoming disgruntled. I know, i was there. You start seeing people with the same time OR LESS go places, get promoted etc while you're still pushing around a beat car. You start to wonder if you're doing something wrong or maybe not well liked. You begin to question yourself and start to lose sight of those early days. When you were new and didn't care about who got promoted over who and who went to narcotics with less arrests/experience/work ethic than you. The days when you came to work because it was fun. Because you enjoyed being around your partners/coworkers/friends. Once you stop worrying about what other people are doing and how they're doing it and begin to focus back on yourself you become such a happier person. You begin to enjoy work again. You come in and do your job and not worry about who you're impressing and what kind of numbers you have and just relax and enjoy the ride.

And what else you start to notice is that all these people that went to tact, sos, (insert unit here) all start little by little coming back to the watch. They realize that being a slave to some boss and working stricly for numbers doesn't really make you truely happy inside. But being able to console a person in a time of need, or catch a bad guy that just stole an old lady's purse, or just having coffee after roll call with the guys are the things that really matter and the reason we signed up for this job to begin with.
As a guy who's seen a lot and still has some more to see, i'd just like to say to the newer PO's, slow down. Take your time and enjoy yourself and these years. Although the bosses might try to convince you otherwise, numbers do not mean everything. Help out people when you can. Give the old lady or mother with a kid waiting at the bus stop a ride home. It'll be only a couple minutes out of your tour but will make their day and mean the world to them. Try to find good qualities in people, including fellow PO's. It's easy to bad mouth and spread rumors about people. Instead try to focus on and spread the good stuff.

Just some things i've been thinking about lately and wanted to pass along. Two things I've always tried to live my life by are 1)treat others as you would want to be treated and 2)If you don't have something good to say about someone, don't say anything at all. I was taught this at a young age and it has made me a rich man. No, not in money, but in inner happiness and friendships. The most expensive things of all.

SCC,

First of I want to apologize for going off topic and also thank you for hosting this blog.

Secondly, I am amazed and thrilled at the Mayor's selection of the new Superintendant. I am willing to wager that this guy will probably bring in his own First Deputy, and perhaps fill other exempt spots with outsiders. You can bet that within a year this guy will garner an incredible amount of minority support. Minorities will get a guy that can both communicate without being condescending and deliver results.

The Mayor and Police Chief in Newark, New Jersey have done so by making accountability, and planning a centerpoint of their efforts to revive Newark. Corey Booker, the mayor of Newark, chose to buck the prevailing wisdom a pick a new chief based on reputation, results, and vision. Corey Booker, a black mayor, did not even place race in a meaningful context as he deliberated in his quest to select a police chief who could reverse Newark's dismal crime statistics. He went with a winner and Newark is a better city even though much work remains to be done. One thing for sure, Black and Hispanic residents love their white male Police Chief! This is due to tangible results (i.e a safer city), and being dealt with as stake holders in the city.

A Superintendant recruited from within the CPD could not have cut the mustard. Things had gotten so bad a radical change had to come. You can bet the CPD will see much better days with the new Superintendant.

I am laughing my butt off at all the FED insults I read as I predicted that a respected outsider would take over as the next CPD Superintendant. Ahh the thrill of having insight and proven wisdom. It time for a cup of Starbucks and a new pair of wingtips...... Take care and all the best to the CPD Blue line that protects Northern Illinois.

There I was, the first night of the snow tow frenzy. I haven’t had any luck with parkers lately. All those people parking overnight, night after night, the same cars in the same spots, but the address listed to the plate owner is Northbrook, Skokie, Pontiac ...
How could this be? DAAAA. I only wish I could never change my mailing address and not have to purchase a city sticker. Anyway, Im really hoping to get a big raise in pay for writing as many snow tow tickets as I can. Thinking of that microwave I can win for my wife if I write more than 10 for the night. By the end of my run, I issued 46 tickets. I felt so good. Microwave, hour or two on the end, pat on the back, watch hero. Then this morning my cousin calls me. Tells me his new car got a ticket and tow last night for snow tow violation. Gives me the badge number of the cop who wrote the ticket. OOOPS!! That looks like my ticket. SORRY ANTHONY. PAY UP! I need that microwave

Hey, you want the City to stop gauging you for the likes of parking, sales tax, etc., then maybe we could go back to working a day in lieu of. How many guys on the mids go out and pinch a whore at 3:30 so she has to go to court in the morning so you get the overtime. How about if they made you carry liability insurance so the next person lumped, tasered or shot by the police could go right after the guy that did it?

How about yearly physicals and psychological assessments. The whole revenue string hasn't added anything to the pension since 1982 and yet the benefits at contract time keep sucking the pension dry. The money has to come from somewhere and even patronage pilferage isn't gonna offset the miscellaneous expenses incurred by the CPD., ie accidents, lawsuits, and the rest. It is reassuring though, to know the new Superintendent will make more than Jerry Finnegan in 2008.

My father used to tell us who to vote for, and the Chicago political machine rolled on for years. He voted democrat just like a good Chicagoan should, and I believed what he said. However, when I grew up and started working, supporting myself and had a family of my own, I came to some realizations on my own; Democrats do nothing for the working class.

I do not know where I fall in this caste-system of low/middle/upper class, but I do know I'm far from rich. My wife and I live a comfortable life and live in a good neighborhood. I have never once received any aide, benefit or grant from the government, although there were times when my family and I needed them. My point is democrats have never done anything for me. All through the Clinton years I was taxed to death; not only during the year, but at tax time as well. At the time I worked security, and my wife was a waitress. I doubt we made more than 25k between the two of us, but we paid more in taxes than a single person who made more. The marriage penalty was a slap in the face. I guess democrats don't care about you if you are trying to live your life correctly; getting married and not having children out of wedlock. They only seem to reward those who are a burden on society; unwed and with multiple children from fathers who neither have the means nor intentions on supporting them, but I'll leave that subject alone for another time.

Apparently democrats think that my income level makes me rich. It's funny because I just don't see it. I live check-to-check and what little money I have saved came from a second job. I am literally one check away from living in the street.

What I do see from "the champions of the working class" is my tax money paying for defunct and antiquated social programs that cause more harm than good. What I do see is government assistance is based on color and not need.

What I do not see is how democrats make this city any easier to live in. Minorities cry about gentrification, but don't realize (or don't admit) that it's happening to everyone who isn't rich. As much as I make, I still can't afford a house, and doubt I ever will. If I was poor and black, I would be given a house, and if I was rich I wouldn't care how much it costs. I was also pushed out of my childhood neighborhood and could never buy property there now.

But what about everyone in between? You know... the 80% of the population that works, contributes to society, pays taxes and receives nothing from the government? What is being done to make our lives better? And what is being done by the mayor, the county president, and the governor to better our lives? Well.. let's see: Raise taxes, fire city, county and state employees, drive the housing market out of control, waste millions on government expansion, funnel money to friends and family... I could go on.

Don't get me wrong; there are problems in the republican party, but I seem only to benefit when a republican is in office. Either the democrats think I'm rich, or the republicans do, but I'd rather have the latter.

Their organizations are as dysfunctional as ours. Instead of an alderman, people call their Senator. And if you review recent developments, the feds are not immune to problems, IE: Waco, Ruby Ridge, Hannsen, and those incidents cost people their lives.
By the way, I am not one of those indescriminate FED hater, I've met many and respect some and disdain others. Most have the same goal as us, to do right. But please, by prefacing your name with beat 2222, you are not impressing us, you are not one of us.

Good points. I noticed with about 5 yrs on while I was running and gunning that I was getting tired and crabby and honestly bored with it. So I sat back for a while and watched how other people worked and I saw that what would make me enjoy things again wouldn't be to get into foot chases or wrestling for a gun but to spend more time mastering my people skills and handling the day to day jobs better. The bosses aren't as friendly but thats to be expected and in the long run not an issue for me because I'm doing well and feel more like my self.

Oh, I forgot, you love to write those tickets to screw with people. Me, I refuse to enforce stupid laws like the snow parking ban, cell phone bans, and god fucking help anyone who tries to get me to enforce the smoking ban.

I only enforce things that make sense- bust stops, hydrants, crosswalks, etc. Screw the rest. Those laws are nothing more than money makers and do not do anything to protect anyone.

“Working fed”, that my friend is the definition of an oxymoron.
No one insinuated that an outsider was not necessary and it was in deed time for one to step in. However, bringing in someone who has never spent 10 min in a beat car, never handled one domestic, never worked all night and tried to drag your self to court, never wrote a ticket, never saw some poor kid shot dead, never rolled around on the ground with some junkie that just don’t want to go to jail, never had 100 people surround you on a street disturbance and start pelting you and your partner with rocks and bottles. Tell me there is no police chief in the entire county who is qualified. Someone who had walked in our shoes, drove in our alleys, drank and beer with us and cried at the memorial in DC.
This guy was brought here for political reasons only.

You sir have just learned that ghetto cops will always be ghetto cops unless you have clout. If you stay too long in the ghetto, you will also find it hard to transfer to a civilized district because you will have been deemed a ghetto cop and cannot be trusted to behave in a civilized fashion. So to protect you from yourself and too many CR #'s and civil law suits, you will ALWAYS have to work in the ghetto.

The reason I ask is b/c I ordered a Christmas present to be shipped them for an in-store pick-up and when I called to confirm they said they did not have my item because they were robbed and it was stolen. Conveniently all of the exact same items (same brand and make) were also stolen, but nothing else. Any truth to this? Said robbery was supposed to have occurred "oh, this past weekend sometime."

I wrote a simular letter about 2 months ago and received the same response. It is a pre-printed letter. How a Governor of any state has no power over pardons etc. is unabelievible.

If you look at Iowa you might expect a conservitive group but the truth is they are very liberal and sometimes left wing.

This gov. seems wishy washy and I think the answer in in the court system.

Maybe this effort will get some support when these lefty judges and pols. start putting some Iowa coppers in jail for bullshit and stop supporting the liar copper who helped in this sham to protect his boyfriends family. This sounds like 11/19 ward crap.

I wish the City would raise the goddam fees enough to enable me to have decent dental insurance. I had lots of work done this year and had to fork over a little over $7,000.00

The City paid a little under $300

My dentist said to pretend I don't have dental insurance. Good advice.

Do you think the Mayor has the same good for shit dental policy we all have? Do you think his insurance has gotten steadily worse over the years instead of better like ours?

Do you think many rank and file would give two shits if Daley's eyes roll back in his head and he tries to give an order one last time and does the death gargle like the old man? I would sleep soundly, that's for sure.

But those first few years on the job will always be your best and happiest. If you arent enjoying them, theres something terribly wrong. Transfer, go to another watch, but find a group of guys you trust and can do some good police work with. "There's a change coming. I can feel it. Government is collapsing. It can't continue the way it is or there will be a revolt in this country in the next decade."

__________________________

I wish this were true but have you looked at the people around you lately? The majority are to wrapped up in themselves and getting that new IPOD to worry about the government. It's a combination of government and cooperations that have destroyed this country. Besides, half of them are getting a free ride from the government anyway and would never do anything to endanger that. That would be to much like work.

More gun control please. Whats wrong with taking a balistic test on every gun (firing pin imprint) and basically tracking that imprint with the gun? That way if you buy a gun, and use it in a crime and a shell case was found it could start a trail? And regulate strictly the sales of gun parts. This way you get your guns, there is no infringement on your precious amendment yet it is very closely regulated. Is there anything in the second amendment about regulating the bearing of arms? If youre not up to no good why would you care? I say let there be guns, just regulate the SHIT out of them. Know who has them, where they are, what they are doing... etc etc and the average gun nut cant hide behind an antiquated notion. Get big brother on their ass!

Off topic post........JH will be going to trial (bench) on BS sex beef. Some lowlife trying to squeeze him and the city for some coin. Show him some support. Great guy.....even if his beat always ended in (0). Great dad. Single parent raising boys. Went to NYC during 9-11 like many did. Loud at times but not what he is accused of. I'd trust my life in his hands any moment of any day or night. keep him in your prayers, as well.

Hey Fake Fed, What the hell is a Bt.222 Driver? Do you actually think the driver is ASSIGNED? Even a FAKE fed should know that the city would never assume that kind of liability. Wingtips? C'mon, so obvious. You're a wannabe or a PD. We love you just the way you are liar.

And now after a couple of months of taking our lumps, here comes John Herman and his trial for having "consensual sex" with the coked out hooker in 006th. Maybe he can plead out to theft of services. It just keeps getting better and better. Nice to know the Sgts. in Gresham make house calls, you call, they'll cum.

12/03/2007 05:47:00 PM.....UMMM "consensual"??No dumbass he was charged with RAPE!He also was charged with RAPE years back.He beat that in court but took heavy suspension time from the Dept. Then he was promoted....Many years back, his mother got a CR # on him claiming he had burglarized moms house. This cat is obviously defective.

Channel 7 reports Attorney for John Herman's opening statement said the sex between his client and that filthy Gresham coke whore was consentual. And that any of her DNA found on his baton was a result of her telling Herman she could use a little "wood".

You have nothing to contribute to this website as it pertains to CPD officers...not you....your opinion doen NOT matter here and you should realize that with all of your nonsensical banter...nobody cares what you say or who you think you were /are or dream to be etc...If you are a FED....go to their website and spew your nonsense there I'm sure they can decipher your messages...which make no good sense and do not apply here.. Go and find a friend...somewhere else...

"There I was, the first night of the snow tow frenzy. I haven’t had any luck with parkers lately. All those people parking overnight, night after night, the same cars in the same spots, but the address listed to the plate owner is Northbrook, Skokie, Pontiac ...""

Seems to me the key word in the city code for license required is 'situs' 3-56-020:
The owner of a motor vehicle who resides in the city but maintains a situs located outside of the city shall be entitled to a credit against the appropriate license fee.

So write the ticket, let them explain why they dont have 2 stickers since they obviously live here..

John Herman : This guy has to be the biggest fuckin' jagoff that this dept. has ever made a Sgt. If I remember correctly when this happened his wife was either pregnant or had just had the baby . So as to the fact that he is a single parent , his wife more then likley left his ass after this happened. Can you believe what this crack whore looks like . She has got to be the most nasty looking bitch on the planet.J.H. deserves everything he gets. This judge will find him guilty and send him to the joint for at least 10 years. Open that butt hole John your going to get yours.

OK NS Sgt, thanks for the compliment. Goof, huh? Thanks Sir. Have a great Christmas too Sarge. I'm not saying he shouldn't get booted. He should. Rapist?...sorry. I never saw that side of him otherwise I wouldn't say what I have and I would not have had anything to do with him. I went out for drinks with him and his NWestern Hosp. Nurse GF and my GF...and others and we went out often until I relocated. No one else ever said, "Hey, John seem a little off to you?...."But, "that side" never came out around me. In uniform he didn't present that way in my experience. I know he loves his poon. He runs his mouth too much and is loud but so are a lot of people we know, right?...We met his sons and saw him in action with them. Very appropriate. Nothing I saw at that time that said "Give this one space". He picked up the tab at Hooters...Foga...Southside bars...etc. and always went out of his way in a good way around ME. I even called my old ex GF after your response and asked her..."Remember John?.. Did you see anything that made the hair stand on your neck?...." and the answer was "NO." So, Sir, I am not saying your'e a goof or a liar. I'm a better person than that. We had different experiences with him. I never said he shouldn't get shitcanned. He should. No one will ever argue that.....except him and his mouthpiece. He is one more disgrace that smears everyone. I just don't see him as a fur burglar. I feel this is a "payday payloan" case. And, last I looked I am entitled to my opinion. I don't need to kiss anyone's ass here. I haven't talked to John since 03 but he never came across as a nutjob in my time with him. Yes, there were the stories but we all hear a lot of stories, don't we sarge?.... I'll bet if the boys and girls asked long enough they'd be pulling out stories about YOU and ME too. And thanks for wanting to bring ones daughter into it too. Relax before you have a stroke, Sir. You do want to be able to be healthy at 60 when you start selling sofas after your ex wife drop kicks part of your pension, don't you?.....
