Coup Attempt at FOP
At the candidates meeting at FOP Hall, we hear that Al Jaglowski tried to file charges against the President in an attempt to throw the election into disarray. It seems Jaglowski is alleging improper conduct regarding the firing of a lawyer employed by the FOP. For the past few weeks, someone has been attempting to generate controversy by alluding to the pending lawsuit over the firing. Here's what we've heard:
- A lawyer who constantly missed filing deadlines and threw a number of grievances into limbo due to sheer incompetence was fired by the FOP.
- As bottom feeding lawyers often do, she immediately announced that she was pregnant and the reason for her being fired wasn't her shoddy legal work. It was because the FOP is populated by drooling neanderthals who couldn't see this EEOC lawsuit staring them in the face.
- She sued and asked for such a low figure that negotiations were entered into, because fighting the frivolous suit would have cost more than the payoff. This, by the way, is what the City does all the time through Corp Counsel.
So evidently, the troll attempting to provoke commentary was Jaglowski and his crew in some half baked effort to drum up support for this stunt at the candidate's meeting Tuesday night. We're surprised he didn't drag his expelled buddies into the circus, too.

Men, do not be fooled by the Jaglowski's or FOP. There actions are not for all the memebrs and if you think so, you are clearly confused. I remember Fallen screaming at FOP meetings against Nolan and he was never expelled. FOP needs to understand, as Jagnowski should as well, the memebrs can vent and have a right to not have to worry about being expelled. And FOP should should stop paying out and fight the lawyer if they are right. Remember, our FOP President screaming at the city for paying out rather than fighting the BS lawsuits, come on guys, obviously there was more to it. And for Jaglowski, well the first 3 letters of his name says it all.

Not completely sure what the latest flap is about; however, the reason a lot of blue shirts still wear any uniform shirt at all because of Jaglowski's handling of thier often time fucked-up shootings.
Although I can't speak for his motive's, intention's or even political prowess he is known as one very competent detective. God forbid anyone challenge the Irish sellouts, right boys? All of a sudden Donahue and Company are paragons of virtue? I haven't met one down at the FOP yet.

Yes he did. He was on Medical Leave and changed to retirement last year. I know this for a fact, as I retired last year and was on the same podium as him.
Lets not pay up... lets pay more and actually discourage others from trying the same thing, before we have the same problem that the city has...Lets fight it and win. Then file a formal complaint with the ardc and go after her license. People get fired all the time. Deal with it! Besides, this shouldn't cost more than court costs BECAUSE WE SHOULD HAVE A GOOD ATTNY WORKING FOR US FULL TIME ANYWAY, and this would be part of his or her job!!!

FOP meeting part I - There were two meetings yesterday, the first started before I got there and was for all those running for office in the upcoming election. The 2nd was the general meeting. Synopsis of the first meeting is Bill Dougherty, Gerg Bella and Sid Davis are running unopposed. The Opposition Ticket controlled by Wayne the puppet master and Jans, Jaglowski, Harold Brown and the usual suspects (nut jobs) tried a juvenile motion to remove Donahue from ballot that failed. Then Steve Robbins who is our pension Rep. and running for Trustee (double –dipping) wanted to change his unit number on the ballot from unit of detail (543) to the district he is assigned, thinking beat coppers are not smart enough to vote for the person instead of the unit number. Denis E. Doherty who is also running for Pres. seized upon this and wanted to ensure that the ballot shows him in 18 instead of the fifth floor of city hall. I may not like everything Donahue does, but I dam sure won't vote for a guy that works for the Mayor's people. The election committee ruled that the ballots will show where you are working for the last 90 days. When I got there the opposition party was proposing that a short bio of every person running for office be included with the ballots. Their thinking is that only the incumbent group could afford to do a mailing to all voters active and retired. I thought that this had some merit but was turned down by the election committee. After the first meeting an independent ticket emerged. King, Lonergan, Richardson, Stajcic, Larcher, and Welch are guys who make all of the meetings and were joined by Bober, and Niezabitowski (he better shorten that name) to bridge gap between the incumbents and the nut jobs.
It is a dam shame that less than 100 officers are eligible to run for office because the rest of the Department is too lazy to go to the minimum # of meetings.

FOP meeting part II- Da Mayor's select committee on pensions has no one from the police and fire unions on it. Big surprise. But three members on it just worked on the CTA contract/pensions and they are going with a two-tiered pension system. Donahue stated he has been in contact with the fire department and there will be no decrease in pension benefits and that the union approached the city in 2003 to no avail offering to make increased contributions. The Olympic Committee will not come into a city with labor strife either. The new OPS first quarterly report in on the web. It makes for good comic relief. FLSA briefs were given to the judge on 8 Jan. He will rule in 4-6 weeks. City has 30 days to appeal, and look for that to happen on the 29th day. Appeals Court will take about six months. If appealed nothing before Labor Day maybe closer to Thanksgiving, but it will be done this fall. On contract talks the medical committee from the city is offering us he same plan benefits that the36 out 42 unions have already agreed to. The problem is the 30 plus questions that the city's advisory committee can not answer for FOP. You have to wonder want these other unions were thinking? In Springfield our lobbyist asked that we reword the portability and compounding of the COLA so they can be reintroduced this session.
Find out who your State Reps and Senators are because if the goof we have for a mayor tries to attack the pensions plans we have to be ready for the biggest battle of our lives. Remember play with pensions we play with the Olympics Mr. Mayor!

There is a lot of wisdom to this commment. One thing public safety labor CAN do however, that can be every bit as effective as striking, is to take informal job actions. Look up, learn and understand the concept of "work to the rules". In public safety the city can never make rules that can control labors behavior effectively, they must depend upon your sense of duty and common sense. At some point, when trust has been lost and there is no other way, labor must make the point by working to the rules, and effectively bringing the system to a halt. The problem is, labor needs at least 30 - 40 percent of the membership to buy in and do so or the action will fail. In my mind it sounds like it really is time.
The city can expect us to show up on time, work the hours we are paid for, provide police service with a modicum of decency and follow reasonable rules and orders. We in turn should expect fair treatment, the backing of our superiors when we are right, or even make an honest mistake, and work rules and promotional processes that are fair and transparent. The city has failed to keep their end, perhaps it is time that we, as a bargaining unit, show them there are consequences.

To the first poster; I've spent the last 9 years in Area Four...most of them on midnights. I can say with a clear conscience that I have never seen Al wrongfully, rightfully or accidentally charge anyone with anything. How dare you disparage the reputation of a man who has worked so diligently at doing nothing. To the second poster I say please list 3 police shootings Al has handled. I won't hold my breath.
