How Cold?

  • A wind chill advisory is in effect Saturday afternoon, as Chicagoland braces for an extreme dip in temperatures later Saturday night. Wind chills are expected to drop to between 20 to 30 degrees below zero.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for Cook, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Will and Kankakee counties that will be in effect until Sunday at 6 p.m.

And all that snow melt puddling in the streets? This freeze is going to make the recent crop of potholes look like a minor inconvenience along with a few hundred water main ruptures.

Why is it we can put a man on the moon, but science can't find a road material that will withstand a single Chicago winter? Oh wait, that'd put the road contractors out of business. Never mind.

That advisory is a warning. You're right. Can't find a material that will last through a Chicago winter... Actually Cement last along time, however, it is very expensive. Look at Pershing from Ogdeon to Central. That road has been there for 10+ years and it is in fairly good shape except for some bumps here and there.

Is it possible to set up a warming
paddy wagon outside the Steam
Bath at Halsted/Belmont? When our "boyz" exit the bath house, it would be nice to have a warming center while waiting for a taxi. Then Im sure I could tug the alderman's ¿ear? about a jacuzzi
in your new station.....

When I was in the military in Europe the road had to be made to last fifteen years, and the contractor had to repair any flaws in the first ten years. They use the corrrect technology to develop some thing that lasts.

take a look at the german autobahn.
the best road system in the world w/ none of the "chicago" problems.
but hey, walsh & hennigan need contracts.
the system will improve when the people of chicago no longer think that coruption is cool.....the chicago way.

It's cold standing in the vestibules of Cabrini Green for special employment because that nutty commander was never a working P/O. Also, all the special supervisors (most of them anyway) are afraid of him.

Can somebody tell me why we have to inventory a winter hat and gloves instead of letting the prisoners have them in lock up? I dont know if every district has to do this but in the 19th dist your prisoner can only have keys, belt, shoe laces, money, one ring, one jacket, one shirt, one pair of pants. In case the city does not know its 10 degrees outside so people are gonna get out of lockup and freeze their asses off. I smell a class action law suit cooking!! We had to lock up a female who was 50 years old for shoplifting and by the time we were done inventorying she only had a blouse, a coat ,a skirt and her shoes as she was released at midnight last night. I was sure she was not gonna make it far. The city wont give its workers a raise but they will allow stupid shit like this to go on which they are gonna pay for when the lawsuit comes down, just like the last one where they are paying 36 million for the latest class action suit. Hey, J Fed are you listening?

RE: 019 lockup...

There is what the general order says, there is what the county and IDOC want, and then there is what our DC wants, and we are trying to do both. If you read the order, and the order from the DC, what you described is a literal interpretation of them... not that it makes sense or is morally correct, but as with everything in this city it will end in a lawsuit.

You know why you have to inventory those seemingly unimportant items.....so that sgt. eBay don't take and sell them. we are still looking for that expensive leather greenbay jacket
