J-Fed Upset?
Rumor in the comments that the Superintendent was more than a little irritated by revelations one of his handpicked Deputy Superintendents had one or more harassment beefs, one resulting in a payout. Please tell us that not a single someone anywhere gave him a heads up on this? It can't be true. Has he no idea what he's walked into here?
Things that would get any normal person fired (or sidetracking a career) are no obstacle to promotion in the CPD. Being related to mobsters, hanging out with organized crime figures, numerous suburban DUI's, domestic violence/stalking convictions, having a convicted Operation Greylord judge in the family tree, drug use, etc. The list goes on.
Incompetence has never been an impediment either. Neither is getting caught dirty by the feebs and then cooperating to put an entire team behind bars. If you play your cards right, you too could end up being a captain in a south side district.

Hey FBI guy, simply using a department resume is a bad way to judge people on the CPD. The thought that someone must be qualified because they held a certain position or went to a certain department program does mean a thing. Ask the question how did this person get this position or assignment or schooling and then you will see it almost always comes back to the Chicago way. Also if you haven't figured this out in the first 23 seconds in Chicago then you are really a Jackass.
Sounds like personell files aren't updated once you are made exempt. Or they are "corrected" after one makes exempt rank.
Shields was a Daley appointment. I don't know if J-Fed has Daley figured out yet. Sure he's heard about the corruption, but hey no FEDERAL convictiona, so he must be ok, right? He'll learn. He just demoted a Capt. for an infraction that occurred long before he was promoted. Will he demote Shields? No, J-fed has some more friends he wants to bring in. He needs to learn that the standards need to be applied EQUALLy, regardless of rank or CLOUT.

Greg Bella wrote a nice explanation of the new 48-hour rule imposed by the Department in the recent FOP newsletter. Bella also laid out a nice argument why this new 48-hour rule is legally wrong and why it is bad for the city.
That said, I have a problem with the FOP making the new 48-hour rule part of our negotiations with the city or, for that matter, part of any discussions with the city. Nothing more is needed from the FOP than pointing out that the new rule is stupid and dangerous. The elected officials in this city are responsible for this rule and the citizens who voted for them will have to live with the consequences.
All the detectives and watch commanders have to do is follow the rule. When the ASA refuses to charge an offender in time for the offender to reach a judge in 48 hours, JUST RELEASE THE OFFENDER. Then, refuse to arrest the offender again until an ASA approves an arrest warrant (which they almost never do).
If the elected officials of this city want to release killers into the streets, who are we to argue with them? I certainly hope the FOP is not trading away our benefits, so the mayor will agree to protect the citizens.
If the citizens have a problem with the rule, let them elect a new mayor.

Yes it was stupid then also, but we are smart enough to know that this is no longer the time for that kind of behavior. If you are "new" to this job, you need to be prepared to adjust to changes because you are going to go through many throughout our career. Even though the "oldtimers" were doing this same stupid stuff and are used to doing that stuff.....do you see them still doing it? To the posters that are talking shit about SOS....All I have to say is that despite the scandal of late...SOS was the best of the best..you can call it what ever you want IE: Sons of Supervisors etc...but the real truth is that years ago the unit was hands down better than any unit on the department...we went in and handled business...no contact cards, no parkers/movers, no curfews...just arrests and quality arrests at that..we would go into an area and get the job done...you kids of today have no idea how police work was done...You argue and bicker about TRU this and TRU that...TRU is better than SOS etc...SOS was THE BEST of THE BEST...even the old timers worked...EVERYONE came in with arrests and I mean EVERYONE...Guns?? You never saw so many guns taken off the street...you'd think some of the guys owned a friggin gun shop!! Man...all I can say is that this department needs an SOS...SOS was the strike force of the CPD. Just for info, the sheriff's working at juvenile court and 26/cal are issued cpd parking tickets books to enforce no parking in front of the buildings not to waste a beat car to enfore the no parking zones. You guys really need to pay attention to what may affect your lives or careers.
I've worked at 26th and California as a Deputy Sheriff in the Court Division. Yes, those assigned to outside security write from the same books as we do for parkers.

But then, as I'm sure most south side guys would agree, SOS is never there when you need them anyway. In and out like ghost and never backing up a district guy. And why do you skirt this. You're the one who went out there saying you were the "best" but then said you only did what others do and now this time you say you never did that (phone call). Make up your mind. To the point, any guy who has been in patrol, because they didn't have the phone call you had, knows you guys would pass up a copper in trouble if there wasn't any other benefit for you. We all know how many times you never showed up at our 10-1's but how we could hear you ask for a "paper car" for the hand wavier. But you were always gone when we got there because paper is beneath such a star as yourself. You're the one who mentioned all the guns SOS, recovered 10 years ago but can't answer why murders were still so high. We'll I can, because you were grabbing the guns that were left when grandpa died or from the fireman. You call me a liberal but how many guns did you take from citizens, who never used them in a crime and had them in their house but they weren't registered??? Now that's liberal. As opposed to those of us who work the ghetto for 8 a day and who don't just jump in and out, many of these folks need their guns, their only crime was not adhering to the most ridiculous gun registration laws in the country. But see we didn't have to set records by taking grandpa's shotgun from the fifty year old, never arrested, working man. You know the true answer to how many you did take, and so do we. One other thing, every poor slob in patrol like me is now suffering more for the actions of you "Best of the Best." Where are the scandals involving the beat guys shaking folks down? It don't happen but the department always beats on us because we are the not-connected. You guys still land nice, like I'm sure you have again. Just don't claim to be the "Best of the Best" until you ride around, often 99, handling domestics alone, not having the luxury of calling for a paper car, not even getting your thirty minute lunch, not having someone to call when you step on your dick. You had all the advantages my friend and you guys took advantage and looked down your noses. And now that you caused the shit to fly you want to cry like a bitch because guys like me are saying, gee thanks a lot asshole, like we didn't have it bad enough. But then you wouldn't know because you're the "Best."

You are truly a GOOF...You talk about arresting an offender wotrh a AK47 and gettibng charges on offender(s) for murder...WOWEEEEE!! first of all...YOU didn't get charges on ANYONE FOR MURDER...The Detectives did...secondly...WOW you got a guy with an AK47 did you get ot off of some poor old fireman or some poor gun collector...I have heard stories of the A/2 gun team's work...have you been working with them when you allegedly made this arrest?? or mabye you were 99 when you made the arrest?? I worked my ass of when I was there in neighborhoods that I had no allegiance to...I was not assigned there...I was there for a day or a week but not assigned there...had no reason to feel attached to the people there but I still worked and locked up anyone I could find to help out the district...THEN.....You accuse me of not going to 10-1"s!!!!! I have news for you pal....one of my shootings was from responding to a 10-1 and killing a jagoff who shot at the police....and I can cite another of of my responses to a 10-1 was when a police officer was run over by a car downtown and I caught the offender with my partner...not 99 like you..I'm not that good.You talk so much nonsense...and make so many unfounded accusations...like a kid who always got his milk money taken by the school bully at lunch...right? I wonder, officer did you ever try to get promoted on this job or did you ever try to get on a tact team , make detective, make sergeant?? or are you one of those loud mouth lazy fucks that just sit there and point fingers out of spite and jealousy?? Dude, lighten up..The other guy might be pressing your buttons but he has some valid points. And you were out of line claiming you were part of the best of the best. It's fine to be proud of what you've done and who you worked with but SOS now is the biggest cause of our problems. And you guys did have every advantage over the poor stiffs in patrol in racking up guns, etc. So tone down the best stuff, say your proud if you must but don't get shit on the guys in patrol, they get enough of that already, don't you think?????
Officer from SOS, calm down, you'll have a heart attack. Did you read the other guy's post who agreed with the guy you're arguing with? Obviously there are those who feel resentment to you claiming to be the best while they did all the grunt work. Not everyone gets the chance to be in a specialized unit, I know you're man enough to admit that. You need to understand just how tough things are in patrol right now. They work very short handed, they get it from all sides, and they create the least amount of trouble. But just like in life, those with the least power get picked on the most. So if they want to vent, let them, that's what this blog is for.
