Pay Up You Deadbeats
Kentucky Representative Tim Couch filed a bill this week to make anonymous posting online illegal.
The bill would require anyone who contributes to a website to register their real name, address and e-mail address with that site.
Their full name would be used anytime a comment is posted.
If the bill becomes law, the website operator would have to pay if someone was allowed to post anonymously on their site. The fine would be five-hundred dollars for a first offense and one-thousand dollars for each offense after that.
If you hop over to AceofSpades, his comment section is full of support for this idea, mostly from people named Dick Hertz, John Smith, Al Coholic, Ben Dover and Heywood Jablome.
As someone pointed out, there's no long tradition in this country of publishing material anonymously or using a pseudonym. None whatsoever. And we're ashamed to say that Rep. Couch claims to be a republican for some reason.

Rest assured, if this ever comes to pass, we'll shut down before we ever allow a list of names to be collected.
SCC,
Never going to happen, unless the USA completely abandons the US Constitution. Well, then again with Hillary,Obama or McCain who knows.

An anonymous comment whether malicious, demeaning, or honest, is the nearest you'll get to the truth.
Long live anonymity!
The truth will set you free!
If we sign our names or make our identity know our comments have to be politically correct, cordial, subtle, civil, grammatically correct, and socially acceptable.
Fuck you, signed anonymous
( see what I mean?)
"shut down before we ever allow a list of names to be collected."
Thats what they want.
Uncensored weblogs are the only real bastion of free speech left. The people that already have the voice, the media and politicians, want to keep it that way so that competing ideas don't make it out into the public mainstream where it could challenge them.
Is this Tim Couch as in the NFL flop qb? He couldn't manage an offense now he is a politician? I know all politicians are ass clowns but wow...
Freedom of Speach in America? NOPE.
Constitution? Who cares!
My name is Harry Kielbasa although I'm not eally polish. LOL....
Tell him to stop out and have a drink with me and my buddies: I'm Hugo First and my friends are Mike Hunt, Harry Crotch & Consuelo Hertz.

Didn't Ben Franklin post under the pseudonym Oliver Clothesoff?
I for one am firmly in favor!
Dear SCC, If this would become a law the answer is simple.
You find a server for your site outside the USA.
They can only dictate this law to sites originating from USA servers.
I can tell you right now, if this law comes about, several off shore islands usually used by political officials for their secret banking will also host servers for websites.
Ivan Yackinov says---
Good law. Start it here.
This reeks of censorship. However if your going to call people out by their names or initials then you should have the b@lls to provide your name with the post.
O.K, I'am changing my name to Anonymous Said.
I see a new unit in the making. Internet enforcement unit with a commander, office staff, and hundreds of investigators.
another stupid idea and can you believe we elect these jagoffs like this? Fuck him let him put his name on every payoff he took!
Holy Free Speech Batman!!!
FUCK OFF!
Anonymously yours,
I post everything under my real, full name, but this is a moronic idea. I can't imagine him getting much support.
Individual sites can require this if they want, and some do, but if people will accept having it forced upon them, then things are worse than I thought.
i think THEY would love to find a way to shut down THESE sites.
to close our mouthes and kill our minds......
My brother Carmine and his partner, Officer Harold Stiffcock disagree with the Couch proposal.
im cool with it

Another brilliant idea by another brilliant politician. I'm sure this is the most important issue he has to deal with right now. He must be from Chicago or Cook county. I'm all for it.

Hey Tim Cooch-ie have you ever been "T"-Bagged anonymously?
I here you're a big fan of the "Roman Helmet/Bulgarian Gas-mask" too!
Do yourself a favor resign, pack a suitcase and take a one way trip to the Far East and then go screw yourself.
Preach your garbage outside these great United States.
Sincerely,

Off topic: Interesting editorial in today’s tribune(11MAR08) about the baggie issue: Seems the tribune disagrees with law makers: “we're not in the mood for another boneheaded crime-fighting measure that inconveniences law-abiding citizens more than the criminals.” Seems to me that is the same tone as I feel about the city’s ridiculous gun control laws. And as I read further once again I could not help but agree:” You can't buy spray paint in Chicago, but that hasn't put the graffiti artists out of business” Another point, the bad guys still have the guns, but your legit citizen can’t. The only people that are on the short end of the gun ban are the good guys. It seems that if the trib would only care as much about our right to defend ourselves as they do about zip lock baggies they might get people to buy their papers. But I guess its more important to them to be able to organize a junk drawer than it is to be able to defend their family.
If "THEY" get ahold of the net, and not let us rant anom.; they will have gained total control. They already have most of the politcians and all of the media.
Look at Chicago; and what the
crime family is able to get away with, even though we post daily
(daley, hey I made a funny)about the corruption and nobody challenges it. Very dangerous times................
These republican congressmen are right wing, 20th century thinking, corrupt morons. they only care about corporate profits. They will recieve a rude wake up call this november when the dems sweep. the dems are not better, but definately the lesser of two evils.
- just look how things went to shi in the last 7 years with republican rule.
That's B.S!!!

Hello, Booger Barfsprinkles here. When I heard about this I called my buddy, A. Blinkin, and he referred me to Bill Ding, who had me call that disgusting Harry Boyle, but he was with his girl Arya Reddy so I went to see Noah Goodman and he sent me to his bank manager Owen Cash. We went for a sandwich at Sam Manilla's place and saw that junkie, Sharon Needles, you know, the one who buys all those crappy clothes from Polly Ester. Well, I ended up in church where I saw Neil Down laughing because of something his buddy A. Ness did. They were there praying for their friend Brock Lee who's in a vegetative state. Finally, Chuck U. Farley sent me to his lawyers, Dewey Rookum and Howe, and they said this sounds like something Jack Goff would do. So they told me to tell this Tim Couch (if that's his REAL name) to go to Helen Waite or he's gonna end up like Chris P. Bacon.
I guess print journalists will not be allowed to hide behind their "anonymous" sources.
Heywood Jablome......
priceless.
My new name: Couch potato
This whole concept is so far fetched and it will never happen. This is just like Special J's ideas that he is telling to the media. Pipe dreams.
Noone want this job, first they cuz down on applicants by requiring 60 hrs, now they wanna say you can't be outta shape. 3 people will be taking the test next time.
Ideas like this make their little stir, and the idiots complain about them right before they fade away to nothing.
IF that ever did happen, which it will not, All you would have to do is host a new blog overseas. Problem solved.

I'm sure the NetZero people will be all over this.
It will never happen. One, blogging is now a way of life for people. Two, industries have sprung up around the message boards and blogs. Three, don't they have anything else to do in Kentucky?
Signed,
Officer Bob Smith
The media are the ones bringing this up to politicians because bloggers, aol news, yahoo news, etc, are killing the media. The ceo of STNG, in a recent interview, called all of these news pirates. Also, stated that these caused the sun-times paper to lose a lot of money.
Genious idea, Rep. Couch you've have the same great leadership qualities in government that you displayed in your prolific football career. I'd follow you to the gates of Hell!

Just like when the democrats went after talk radio with the fair doctrine. God Bless America, I knew you when...
let's all change our name to Doe. The first time the ME told me his name I thought he was fucking with me. He got pissed at me cause I told him to quit fucken around.
You can't really go by a person party label anymore. How many Chicago politicians fit more into a republican suit then a democrat but we all know a republican can't win in Chicago. They claim the party that's most popular where they live and then show their colors once elected. And for those who keep mentioning Bush, he and his father were always moderate at best, never conservative. Conservatives are the minority in this country but then so is common sense not so common.
Tim Couch was a shitty quarterback and a wasyted first round draft choice
Obviously the\is guy is a friend of our own Mayor Mumbles. Just think about it for a minute. If this bill is passed it can be passed along to the promise anonimity to any whistle blower. This way the Mumble Man can find out who is ratting him out and take care of that person's fifth cousin in Wyoming. Screw Couch just another RINO.
And yes Mr. Couch I will remain anonymous.
