SecondCitySarge has a couple of posts up, and a promise of more to come.

Saturday, a uniform post, debating the merits of the baseball hat versus the traditional; light blue versus dark uniform shirts; vest covers; pants.

Sunday, a short discussion of the 6th working day and how to eliminate it. SCS brings up the fact that our pay is based on a 2080-hour work year and a 5 on - 2 off, 5 on - 3 off schedule like NYPD would result in a 1950-hour work year and an approximate pay cut of $4,000 per officer. We're sure the mayor is already looking into this schedule with that familiar gleam in his eye.

SCS is promising a look at the 12 hour day coming up soon. Check them out.

wake up...all the 5 day a week desk police at HDQT working 20 days a month are making the same wages every 2 weeks as the poor souls plugging away in the field for 6 in a row for a month....then the good fortune to work 1 five day week inbetween two 3day wkends..only formatted due to six day weeks before and after....confused...we could all work a five day week or be paid for the sixth day if FOP represented patrolmen at the table.

12 hr shifts would kill me. Both me and my wife are CPD w/ less than 10 yrs. BOTH of us would be stuck working midnights.

i would take that schedule!
Trade a years raise for an extra 16 days off.
OR
let us fill in the 16 days electively working CTA, CHA, Details..., but required to work the extra 16 in a year or get docked!
OR
possibly adjust salary accordingly.
Lose 5 hours pay per check for the added benefit.

Anything is better than the 6 day work week. 10 hour days perfect. 12hour days if that's what it takes.

10 hour days would be awesome, so would the 5-3 schedule (8 hour)but that wont happen, 12 hour shifts would be great too, all the people who whine about it should understand that if theyre gonna work 1st watch on the 12 hour days they are probably already on it. so whats the difference, ill tell u whats the difference having 4 days off in a week intead of 2!

SCC----Check this out,

I just learned last week that Cook County is going to offer free daycare to those criminals that have kids and need someone to watch them during their court date. Specifically, in Bridgeview, they are going to convert an old D.A.R.E. room into the daycare. Gotta love what Toddler is doing.

You're an idiot... You never agree to a way the city can get more work out of you for less. Ask for more time off, but dont agree to less pay.

I did the ten hour days before. And it was working in 015. it was a long day but the time off plus if u added a pd or comp you could have 5 days off in a row. but 12 hours is to much I think. hopefully we get something thats better then this work week.

2080 hrs divided by 8 = 260 days. 260 days worked + a 1hr paid lunch = 32.5 days. Minus furlos, doesnt that leave a little wiggle room to get rid of the 6th day? Or am i just a crazy old fuck out of my mind?

Hey it is 9:19PM on the 31st of March. Has anyone seen the new time due slips that were going to be required by 1 APR to fill out your time due indicating if you were planning on using FLSA time, so you would be guaranteed to get the day off, and suggest a replacement to take your spot, or is the Dept. in violation of a court order?
Just wondering.....

35th,ERPS,Commanders office each district,all of them work 5 days a week,it can be done,I worked the 10he day back in 2005,its a great schedule,you work 51 less days a year,its in the FOP book,figure it out yourself,every 5th week a 4day weekend,for 3 weeks in a row.
Is the FOP really trying to get rid of the 6th day? After all these yrs of us complaining about it,the 6th day is not even close to be being gone, the FOP can't come up with a better schedule?
A month ago j-fed was at 008 roll call,he said with 40 witnesses, that Mark Donafool didn't seem to be in a hurry to get rid of the 6th day,WTF,must be nice to work a 5 days a week Mark with a company car.

First of all, I am prior service but never in the Navy.
Secondly, I have never criticized anyone, regardless if they agree with me or not, of not being on the job long enough or for not working in a real district.
Please show when this has happened.

I worked the 10 hr in 008 and would go to ANY district if I could have it again. It was SO great and having to go back to the 6 days straight has taken me over a year to get used to again. More time for family, more time for side jobs and still plenty of time to relax.

I just counted. If you work a five day work week, saturday sunday off you will work 262 days in 2008. I am in group 2 and I will work 261. So there is no disparity in pay. I'm guessing that other day off groups work a day more, and if I stay in group 2, I'll make up the day next year. Subtract 25 v days and that leaves 236. 235 if in sat sunday. There has to be some way to work it out where we all work 5 day weeks. The problem is days off. Wouldn't rotation have to go? If that is so, then it's by seniority picking, and that would suck for newer people. They'd never see weekends. I am a believer in seniority, but I don't think that that would be right. Anybody have a solution, like FOP or PBPA? Once the golf outings, santa visits and easter egg hunts are planned I mean.
