We heartily agree - just more bullshit and smoke obscuring the fact that nothing has been settled, negotiated or sent to the membership for a vote. This isn't 1950, 1960 or 1970. There are rules. The previous contract is in full force and effect until such time as it is superseded by a new agreement. Stop panicking.

I was all for giving J-Fed the benefit of the doubt, and to a large extent I still think the jury is out.... however, seeing the illustrious Captain L. Crump-Hales become a commander is a strong, STRONG indication that it is going to be business as usual around here. If you need a F/1, I get it, but come on.... promote someone who is at least a tad deserving! J-Fed could have taped up a list of 500 F/1's and thrown a dart to pick the winner... odds are roughly 1 in 500 that he would have made a better choice.... What's next, cynthia white becomes commander of IAD? Hopefully this move is a political buffer for bigger and better moves to come.... Hurry up boss, your supporters amongst the rank and file are on the fence, and a lot of us are teetering....

12 hour shifts? Consider for a moment what might be entailed in obtaining just the 6 on, 3 off rotation the FOP is asking for.
A 6 days on, 3 day off work schedule results in over 16 additional days off in a year. Does anyone really think the City is going to just hand us an additional 16 plus days off? (about 16.6 actually)
So, those 16 days will have to be made up so the City will continue to get the 2080 hour work year that they have been fixated on for many years. (other City workers are on a 2000 hour work year, 40 hour week etc.)
So, if we want that 6 day on, 3 day off work schedule, be prepared to give back 16 days a year to the City, some way, some how.
For a 15 year patrolman that comes out to a give back of 6 BFD's, 4 P-days and 6 furlough days. that then amounts to the 16 extra days off a year we will get in our work schedule.
I can maybe foresee the City throwing in a day or two but certainly not 16 days. And the FOP would have to show how that schedule would not result in any shortage. It has to somehow be advantageous to the City or it won't happen. I am just playing devil's advocate, anticipating the City's argument. The City always makes the argument when alternative work schedules are proposed that what is in it for management.
So, we can have our current furlough days, BFD's and P-Days or we can have 6 on and 3 off. I see no way possible for us to have both. Unless the FOP has a card up it's sleeve.

But, check this out, some ASA's let shooting murderers go (walk) by citing self defense during a gang shoot out. Yes, sad but true . Ask and Area HGS unit.
Some judges refuse to affirm guilty verdicts or reduce the severity of the findings in any gun case. This too is checkable.
The point is that the police make the arrests based upon the existing gun laws. The police do their job and the law is upheld.
The ASA and the courts are the next step. This is where the process begins to fail.
It's not the laws that kill people or the guns...

Ladies and Gents........it is not based upon the 2080 hour. It IS based upon the 171 hour cycle that is in place due to FLSA laws. As long as that is satisfied, there won't be a problem.
You came on the job knowing you work 6 in a row. Quit bitchin!!!! Because as sure as the sun comes up in the morning, if the city/FOP change our work schedule, it WILL require us to give back somemething.
Specifically P-Days/BFD's/V-Days.

The Lodge was contacted today by the Independent Police Review Authority who informed the Lodge that they cannot meet the standards established by the City Council in completing investigations within six months of initiation. Because of this, the ordinance states that the Chief Administrator shall notify the employee of the general nature of the complaint or information giving rise to the investigation and the reasons for failure to complete the investigation within six months.
This position should not come as a surprise to anybody. The City Council passed this ordinance with little understanding of the investigative process or concern for the fact that there was an extensive back log due in part to years of understaffing. Today there are 83 cases that fall into this category and officers will be getting a letter explaining the details outlined above. This covers both complaints that have resulted in CR #’s being issued and other investigations that have yet to be resolved. This action does not impact our membership and is more of a nuisance to the Authority in having to justify their actions or lack thereof.

Throw out the educational requirements. If a candidate with or without a degree is gifted or just plain stupid, the Wonderlic will screen and identify hidden potential.
CPD appointments to the FBI Academy at Quantico, the Northwestern University Traffic Institute (NUTI) and other "executive" programs are virtually meaningless because of the clout factor. Candidates are chosen by the brass political hacks--the Academic Selection Board.
As it currently stands, the CPD all too often has a clouted moron chosen over our most talented, experienced and gifted for promotion, assignment and extradepartmental training.
If Supt. Weis continues to speak of integrity, dedication and professionalism, he must first categorically condemn the stranglehold of political clout that has drained the CPD of all morale. Transparency in personnel actions must be manifest.
