Violent Weekend
The Sun Times tallies up the carnage. They attempt to dilute the damage by including suburban statistics:
Seven people -- not one older than 26 -- were killed and at least five people, all in their teens or 20s, were injured in acts of violence in the city and near suburbs over the weekend.
The dead range from a 15-year-old eighth-grader who was shot while walking to a shop on the Northwest Side to a 26-year-old woman allegedly stabbed to death by her husband because she wouldn't have sex with him.
As of yesterday, the City was allegedly one single homicide short of last years total. We're not sure why it feels like a worse year, but so far the actual numbers are flat. We'll see if it holds.

the homicide rates are really down because we have good doctors and technology that saves so many that would have been goners years ago. they certainly are getting a lot of practice. instead of all the usual bs about guns why doesn't the media look into the backgrounds of some of these offenders. multiple juvenile arrests, multiple probations and chances, a revolving door until they graduate to murder.

I assume all of these murderers were using handguns purchased legally and carrying their FOID cards. Maybe the city should consider requiring gun registration and outlawing handguns within city limits. There are other circumstances which led to SOME of these teens turning to a life of gangs. Folks who have not grown up in these neighborhoods (like 12:14 a.m. comments) could not possibly understand.
Didn't a police officers son get killed in this senseless violence? Aren't the gangbangers the employees of your co-workers, the CPO's that sell drugs in the minority communitites and steal decent people's money & valuables by threatenitng us and our children with gangbangers and fake criminal charges because they is the police?

Actually, if you check I-clear, the stats for this year are only updated up to 20 Mar 08. So, if you go to 2007 and check up to 20 Mar 07 the homicide total is only something like 67 or 69? Don't remember the exact digit, but it is nowhere near the 2008 total.

Last time I checked it was at 82 and that was before this weekend. but the totals for this year are still nowhere near 2008. We'll check back in June.
no chance any of you cops would be interested in fighting these gangs so we might not have to deal with them anymore. no ... that would constitute doing some actual foot work and possibly putting you in the line of fire. instead, you'd rather have a bunch of kids die and based on the fine comments here ... it's basically just "blacks and mexicans" so who really gives a fuck?
hope you all get those new cars and guns and uniforms to parade around in ... maybe you actually like dressing up like you're about to invade Poland ... bunch of fucks.
