CeaseFire Whines Some More

They were the only thing keeping the streets safe don't you know?
  • An outside review of the Chicago-based anti-violence group CeaseFire found that the program—which lost its state funding—has led to "distinct and statistically significant declines" in violence in neighborhoods across the city.

Shootings dropped between 17 percent and 24 percent in the areas studied, the report found.
No word on any other influences on the rate of violence falling - like massive redeployments and such that shortchange one neighborhood at the expense of others. And let's not lose sight of why CeaseFire was de-funded last year:
  • CeaseFire was criticized last year in a report by the Illinois auditor's office for not effectively keeping track of millions of dollars.
$6 million in cash pretty much just turned over to "ex" gang bangers who claimed to be able to keep shootings down and retaliatory killings to a minimum. No accounting whatsoever. A typical government program in other words.

just for information scc and the many others listening... I worked in gangs south during the late 80s and 90s and one of our targets that was in the penn from 88 to 99 was suddenly a member of cease fire while on parole. word from a c.i and bank records showed that the "reformed" member of the gangster disciples was pulling in an exorbitant amount of usc from project cease fire. the "project" has direct links to the gangster disciples such as its founding members. the entire thing was a front from the beginning. the above gangster disciple who was part of and led many marches on the south side for cease fire was put back in the pennetentary because he was caught with a .25 cal handgun and 37grams of crack at 76th and emerald.... just goes to show you the quality of people leading the program

Thanks for mentioning this. I hope with millions in tax payers money missing or not accounted for, somebody goes to jail. I bet a lot of this money went to gangs, gang members and maybe even weapons and firearms.

Time to bring this to the grand jury.

Get a clue here SCC, the accountability or lack thereof is by design. Of the 6million funding you can GUARANTEE 5,500,000 is kicked back to Daley & his Chicagorillas.

Since regular folks can't own assault style weapons in Chicago, why should the police have them? Rules are rules. No one, not even the police should be above them.

I had to post this over on the Trib. too since they have an article about Ceasefire today. The night before the double homicide at 3346 Potomac, m/4 was on there talking about the peace they bring to the neighborhood and showed him in the gym in Humboldt Park. The day of the double, he is out there with the rest of the Kings erecting a memorial. Don't know what's up with the memorial since 1400 was trying to get some PO's to go out there and take it down.

Since these fuckers aren't getting the free cash they want to continue their criminal enterprise, they hit the media with the bullshit angle that it was THEM who stopped the violence. In a not so subtle way, these fucks are already putting themselves up to be gangsters right in front of the press, but apparently no one sees it. These fuckers are telling the press POINT BLANK "PAY US OR THE VIOLENCE IS GOING TO CONTINUE". So what the fuck is that the definition of, yah, a fucking shakedown by proven GANGSTERS with the pathetic cover of being "LEGIT".

I still like the idea someone posted a couple weeks ago. Why not use these CeaseFire people to create the nucleus of the new VMA - Violence Management Authority. Give 'em red vests and flashlights

This would free up valuable police resources and manhours from being tied down on routine homicides. Cheaper too!

"CeaseFire" is another liberal crock of shit conceived under the auspices of one Gary Slutkin.

Slutkin contends that violent crime is a virus much like AIDS which must be snuffed out by the intervention of ex-cons and gang bangers whom he refers to as "violence interrupters".

Just another way for the Dems to toss our tax dollars down into the abyss--another bottomless rathole.

You are such a dumbfuck. Whether we like it or not, there are evil criminals running around with assault rifles who couldn't care less about mass murder or any lesser laws.

Using your convoluted logic, who should we call if a madman starts opening fire with an AK-47 at Pearson and Michigan on a Saturday afternoon?

Not the police according to your dementia. Remember. The police should not have assault weapons.

A full lobotomy may prove helpful in your case.

A government program that WE pay for. CeaseFire is nothing but a gang. Most of them are still active bangers and offenders. Just because they allegedly keep the shorties in line doesn't warrant giving them millions. That money is going in someone's pocket.

This reaks like the CVLs of the 60's. The CVLs apply for grant money by the help of a dumbass liberal through the federal government and get a million dollars. Lo and behold money is unaccounted for and the CVL become the best armed gang in Chicago to maintain their hold on the drug trade. So fast forward and now the GDs have taken a page out of the CVLs playbook. The GD's are the best armed and trying to maintain their criminal enterprise through cease fire. I guess they don't want to mess wiht the federal government and just stay local less heat and more corruption. I also have ran into some of these cease fire sh@t bags i locked up two so far.one for DOPW in the killah ward while he was holding court with the shorties. He told me that he worked for cease fire and that if he went to jail he wouldn't be able to stop the killing. Let's just say no one was shot that day. So whats up cease fire. I wish I could drink on the job and get paid.

Police are not above the law. They perform a function which demands they be allowed certain extraordinary powers over and above rules for "regular folks." But in our narcissistic society, liberals cannot stand that ANYONE has POWER over anyone else so they are busy dismantling the law enforcement function.

It is illegal for an improperly licensed person to call themselves a surgeon and perform brain surgeries on people. "Regular folks" cannot pass themselves off as medical doctors. According to your argument, doctors should not be able to wield a scalpel either because rules are rules, and no one should be above them.

I'm sure you can now see the weakness in your argument.

The money that was given to Ceasefire was given to other non-profits. That's right, anyone who had an organization that wanted to participate in stopping the violence could submit a proposal and get monies to help their organization join the fight to combat violence. State Sen Ricky Hendon has meetings every Monday and any group or organization can attend the meetings and find out how to appply for state grants and funding. I do not know why Mayor Daley came on TV pretending to be stupid, he knows where the money taken from Ceasefire went and Ceasefire was not doing anything but lining their own pockets. That's why the money was taken from them and given to someone else. Again, stop complaining and get busy and see what you can do to stop the violence.
