City Gives Away Jobs, Money

Anyone know where you can find 600 jobs, quick? Because they're leaving town right now:
  • A former Chatham industrial site that was supposed to house Chicago's second Wal-Mart -- and first Super-center that sells groceries -- has been put up for sale by a developer whose hands were tied by City Hall.
  • Scott noted that Chicagoans spent $500 million last year in Wal-Mart stores that ring the city, $80 million of it from the 21st Ward, where the Supercenter would have been.
  • Ald. Howard Brookins (21st), whose ward includes the Chatham Marketplace, bemoaned the "missed opportunity" for 600 permanent jobs, 1,500 construction jobs and sorely needed shopping choices
$500 million in revenue, taxed at 10.25% or whatever the City/County/State rate is now.

600 permanent jobs and 1,500 high paying construction jobs that would funnel how much into the local economy?

And Blago wants to spend $150 million he doesn't have for jobs and capital improvements while Chicago gives away $50 million minimum in tax revenue?

We hope Home Depot is the next big box store to pull out of town - they have two or three stores on tap for Chicago. And as they just announced they're closing a bunch of stores nationally, we figure it's a safe bet.

what corporation in their right mind would invest in this city. Look at all the business' fleeing to the Tinley Park business area located in Will County. Tax incentives..

Take for example the Home Depot and the best buy at 87th and State.

Top earners in volume per unit and sales, along with shoplifting. Great opportunities for off duty side jobs. Two blocks away the Walmart cant be built because dickey wants the living wage. See you in the suburbs. great area easy to get too, not really congested on 83rd. Now the lot will sit vacant.

That site on the far southeast side would be perfect for a gambling casino/hotel/entertainment complex.

Chicago, Cook County, Illinois have got to be the most business unfriendly in the nation.

Is it any wonder why we lose jobs and why the tax rates continue to increase?

Figure the sales tax will be 15-20 percent by the time I retire.

This time it's not the Daley's fault...we can all thank that little fucking piece of shit Toddler Stroger. That limped dick, four eyed asshole has pushed Chicago into the spot light by raising taxes well above the national average to become the highest in the nation. Too bad the County Board doesn't have the balls to recall that fucking little goat or recall him. Fuck him..and Fuck Daley too.

good thing those of us with decent income all live on the fringe of the city. The only thing I ever purchase within the city limits is MAYBE a can of soda from a vending maching once a month or so. Other than than, all nearby northern suburbs get my tax dollars. And if I need something big, I look to a store outta crook county.

I wouldn't shop there anyway. There's a Walmart in Evergreen Park. Less taxed.

Why would you say you hope more businesses leave Chicago? Your hoping for the downfall of this city you work for? I understand if you hope for the downfall of the political regime. But if the city does crash and burn, you may find yourself looking for a job as well. Good luck with that seeing the state of the economy and the job market throughout the rest of the country. But don't worry Obama will save us all.

Not to worry! Mayor dipshit said he will employ 5/600 "youths" this summer with city money. You can apply at any G/D controlled tip on the west side.

Be careful posting that you shop outside the city like my wife and I do. Daley will probably try to pass some type of general order or city code saying city employees must do all their shopping within the city limits of chicago. Would it really surprise anyone if Daley tried that?

the idiots at city hall obviously could not get walmart to give envelopes stuffed with cash to them for approval! Great job again idiots from daley and the 50 sheep who are told what to do and do as they are told as they have no spine! thanks a lot again for the boneheaded move what a bunch of trash, maybe next time we need to throw out all the trash and elect new! but the dumbocrats will roll on!

5/08/2008 09:21:00 AM's comments about people crowing about the economic sinking of this city are right on target. While I despise everything Daley and all dumbocrats espouse, we are, unfortunately, tied to each other.

What are you going to do if/when the city goes broke and your pay/pension checks start bouncing?

The dumbocrats have tied themselves to all the liberal victim interest groups with promises of perpetual handouts. But the cookie jar is becoming empty and no one is refilling it.

Don't look for any help from Home Depot and any other home supply stores. With the downturn in home building and the mortgage crunch, they are hurting too. Probably won't be building new stores. May be closing existing ones.

And I do live on edges of the city and shop in the burbs as much as possible.

Maybe the mayor should try a new approach: LOWER the taxes, then people like me, you and 10's of thousands of others would not go to the burbs to shop. The ones that are really hurt by the high sales taxes are the urban poor, the dumbocrats core.

And I will point this out again, the WalMart that was originally to be on 83rd ended up in Evergreen Park. Since then Ev Pk. has been continuously making improvements in the town, streets, sewers, curbs sidewalks, etc. When you shop at the Ev. Pk. WalMart, it is obvious that a lot of the shoppers are from the Chatham area. Daley, really blew that one. However, I do almost all of my shopping in Will County, and escape the city and county taxes here.

This is in addition to my LINK card.

It's all part of the Master Plan.

Since the real estate market is down, and foreclosures are sticking the money-lenders with properties they can't break even on, with even the speculators hesitant to buy into the west and south sides, there's got to be other methods applied, to encourage the 'undesirables' to relocate.

Thus, stall on the CPD contract, fuck with those working the streets, inspire the predictable reactions, with the resulting combination of increasingly violent crimes driving the relatively law-abiding to sell and move and the incredibly lawless to reduce their numbers and you've paved the way for those speculators to resume the miracle of gentrification.

Add the economic burdens of higher property taxes, sales taxes, and pretty much every other tax and fee, and success is assured.

Soon, this will be an 'undesirable-free' city, with the Mexican nationals exodus palling in comparison.

When this stage of the Master Plan is complete, Chicago will anoint a Republican Mayor and the rest of Cook County will be left to deal with the influx of Democratic 'undesirables' fleeing from the city's violence and brutal taxations. (Unless, of course, the 'undesirables' choose to flee to Indiana....)

Daley should be sporting an Adolf lip rug.

wal mart is circling the city with stores in the bordering suburbs. They get all the city residents money and dont have to put up with Daleys BS. The lack of development in certain areas is daleys fault the man is a joke and the residents of this city are idiots for letting the machine destroy everthing.

========

Um, sales tax rate is 10.25%, not 1%.

85 million in gross sales is over 8.5 million in revenue.
