Record It!

The meeting is tomorrow night. They are checking ID's at the door.

No one has said if they're frisking officers upon entering and making you check in your gun like they do at court. We're pretty certain they aren't checking pockets. And pocket recording devices aren't all that expensive - right Al?

It sure would be nice to have a permanent record of J-Fed and Aunt Bea waltzing through a question/answer session like they waltzed in the Cinco de Mayo JibJab cartoon.

We're just saying.

the news agencies have devises that don't look like what they are so if some group would get with an officer it would be easy to record this meeting.

Its good they are checking ID's. Why would we want any mope at a meeting like this. As far as the recording goes... don't forget about the Illinois ease dropping law. It's a felony to record a conversation without both parties, or all parties involved, consent.

lets see how he likes being recorded at every word or mistep. Thats the burden he has placed on us, i thinks its only fair.

The FOP should send someone to record and ask questions also.

I hope you are not suggesting that anyone commit a felony. Ask R P formerly of B & A.

IANAL, but I have three quick thoughts about this:

(1) Recording the meeting without consent would be probably be illegal, although there is a general exception for public meetings, where the recording constitutes press coverage. I think this probably doesn't count as a public meeting.

(2) If such a recording falls into SCC's hands, it's probably not illegal for him to post it where everyone can find it, listen to it, and make copies.

(3) If the recording is illegal, and SCC posts it, the department could probably use that to launch an investigation into SCC's identity, complete with subpoena's to Blogger and various internet providers, on the grounds that SCC may have evidence that would lead to the person who made the recording.

Tread carefully.

COme on guys-no need to record-the amount of people present will be sufficient proof that something was or was not said.

Lets ask questions that are both meaningful and intelligent sounding .

No need to come off as we are some thugs. Thats what he will expect given the background he comes from.

There are a lot of topics that need discussing. Here are a few:

1) backing of officers that are doing their jobs and taking everyday risks-will they have it?

2) Since his command of the department-he has made many command changes-has he considerd that since there was a need for change in command-there is also a need to look at the folks who work in thos units? ie: Internal Affiars: are some of them fair and do they look at the facts, ot do they head-hunt? Are there people at call back who have been totally rail-roaded by Kirby and chronies?

3) He spoke a few times about equipment-most district officers have to take pdts from cars that are down for the day (un-manned of course due to shortage), and use them so they can operate semi-police-like.

4)Promotion tests and promotions, period. WHy the component that has a subjective part?? Academics grading police?

There are many others , these are just a few and I cant ask that many obviously we will have a limit Im sure.

Hope to see you all there!

4)

There has to be an expectation of privacy! I really don't think this publicized meeting/question and answer session has any expectation of privacy. But keep in mind the same goes for the conversations we will be having among ourselves during this audio/video recorded meeting. Sounds like a big fishing expedition for the G if ya ask me.

There is no limit to the number of hooks the feds will regularly lower into the water.

If they could, by law, do so, they'd use nets.

You just spent a whole post figuring out whether to record a meeting that went out to the whole department.

Maybe if we could get together, we could all piece together what is said?

You think FOP wont be there? Cmon...remember, they represent us! They've done such a good job to. Theyll take notes on who asks questions also. Bet on it.

Saw canines going through the room today at HQ.

Seems like the dogs and electronic guys are sweeping it for recording equipment to pinpoint who brings it in tomorrow.

Be careful.

But the minute things break bad, or he starts to feel the heat from the media or city hall.... well, lets just say "your ass is grass, and he's a lawn mower!"
And if you are a non believer, ask Cozzi!

Since I'm not allowed to go, give 'em hell.

Although I'm not in the KMA Club, I've got my questions ready for his meeting with the supervisors.

However, I have a funny feeling that you guys are gonna burn J-Fed's ass tonight and as a result, he's going to "postpone" future meetings.

No words spoken (Don't worry about not getting them off some pussy in the group won't even wear theirs they can help every one take them off after the meeting)
