Firefighter Investigator Shot
Stray round? Targeted shooting while he was collecting evidence? No one is saying.
- After a lone arson investigator was shot early Sunday as he checked an alley where a Molotov cocktail had been tossed against a house, the Chicago Fire Department will change its policy and have investigators work in pairs, the fire commissioner said.
The incident was the first time that a firefighter had been shot and wounded since about 1968, said Fire Commissioner Raymond Orozco. Paramedics have been shot at over the years, but department officials could not recall any being hit.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Keep an eye on these guys - yeah, we have our rivalries, but they're still on the First Responder team.

GIVEM GUNS AND A VEST!
Best wishes for his recovery. Anyone here about his status? It's amazing how the shitbags get hit like 10 times and walk out of the hospital a few hours later like nothing happened. But with the good, hard working people they go through hell fighting for thier lives.
***conspiracy theory***
I hope the firefighter is ok and fully recovers. But, lets look at this in another light people.
call me a consiracy freak, but what if pookie thought the uniformed official was a lone police officer checking an alley, maybe saw the white shirt and thought it could have been a sgt. pookie saw a good opportunity to smoke a police officer with no witnesses around...after all, there have been a handful of shootings by the police recently in the area and it would be great retribution on the police... pookie makes a well placed shot on what he thinks is a police officer but ends up its a fireman... dont count it out boys and girls... this could just be a case of mistaken identity. after all who would want to shoot a fireman...pookie was either aiming to shoot and kill the police, or he was trying to stop the investigation on the house he just burnt up.... but I really dont think that was the case.. be careful boys and girls... this senario just may be correct and could have been an ambush type incident for one of our own. get well fireman your in our prayers.
Were was the district car to protect the crime scene before
B & A arrived ?
This is total b.s ! The beat car and their supervisor should get hung out to dry.
A tenured det. of police.
SCC,
You fail to mention the obvious, arm the investigators in OFI. There are a ton of former CPD officers on the CFD with investigative experience that are already state certified peace officers. Make the OFI position armed, parts of Chicago are a war zone and will never change.
OFI shot does not appear to be intentional. 004th District Gang war continues to Heat up between the Lakeside GD'S and Mafia Insane Vice Lords in that area, OFI was in the wrong place at the wrong time (which is anytime over there - 2900 E 80th pl). ***Triple Homicide also at 78th and Kingston on sunday night! Will we recieve crime increase lapels at the end of the year to go along with our crime reduction awards?
Yes, working in pairs will stop them from being shot. Fire marshals are authorized to carry weapons in the People's Republic of Illinois. But I guess that right is reserved only for the aldermen.
Speedy recovery to the man.
"...the investigators will work in pairs..."
For the shooters, that's a two-fer.
They should be armed after the asshole mayor lets federal law stand! Now they have to work in teams of 2 why? 1 to get shot the other to dial 911! Give them guns to keep the animals at bay!
Good Luck and God Bless!
If the city is too busy buying flower pots, maybe some donated body armor from retired officers would be a good thing. How about a fund raiser for body armor. I'd buy a ticket just to see if I could out drink a fireman.
"The incident was the first time that a firefighter had been shot and wounded since about 1968"
I seem to recall some violence going on back in '68.History has a funny way of repeating itself.Brace for impact.
CPD may have their friendly difference with the CFD, but we hope your guy is doing well and a speedy recovery.
This is unbelievable! They, [the arson investigators] should refuse to respond to any situation like this anymore. Fuck these ungreatful citizens, they don't at all deserve to live in this great country and all they do is drag our Country further and further down the toilet, and the road to communism, which is what these freeloaders all want.
wake up call... welcome to the real world. What was he doing out there at that time of day anyway? Investigations like that can wait.
All bullshit aside, kudos to Orozco stepping up and giving them additional help. It probably won't be a bullet, but how about falling through some burnt up floor and nobody there to help them. Hope he recovers fully and given that they work 87ish days a year, see you next year when you're done recovering.
Hopefully he will have a speedy recovery. Prayers go out to him and his family during this time.
For the dumb ass that did this. FFs are always willing to risk their lives to save you and then this happens. The public better hope that the CFD never does a work slow down
were was the police escort? Unless the OFI guy came later, we always hung with them, especially in seedy areas until they were finished with their investigation. If the beat guys left, then there sgt, lt, or w/c should be answering some questions.
Speedy recovery and God bless to the fireman.
Perhaps CFD should finish eating a good meal or whatever else they were doing before responding to any calls in areas such as these.
Just a suggestion.
Burn baby burn!
Is it possible they thought he wasa a LONE police detective investigating something?
These are volatile times especially in teh ghetto areas where many guns are not being TAKEN FROM THE STREETS much anymore!
I wouldn't go anywhere in those areas without a partner for fear of being "sniped" by some jag bag wanna get even with the police motherfucker!
They shopuld have had a squad car accompany them.......
I forgot we are SHORTHANDED out here so.......
oh well such is life and now back to the cess pool (or I mean work)for more contact cards and event numbers to show some activity!
it the alderfreaks can carry, arm these guys.
If the arson investigators have police powers or are performing a police role, then why the fuck aren't they armed?
Maybe the Exempt PPO should give them some of these new Glocks that he wants us to have!

Very plausible, have you given any consideration to the possibility that a fireman was/is close enough??? These mutts resent authority or lawfulness period, the CFD represents authority and civization. The CFD also quelled their plans of arson via molotov cocktail.
Why didn't they send a police car with him for his investigation???
They have no problem dispatching us for the 96 year old female with cancer not breathing or the man down B.S. that fire now sends a huge diesel rig too.
BTW, I don't believe those multi-million $ big ass fire trucks are meant to put so many miles on a year responding to B.S., next your not going to have functioning fire equipment. You think they have a pool of usable trucks???
They will be like us, with no pool vehicles and struggling to find a usable ride!
Hey fire dudes, make sure you are wearing something that reads, Chicago Fire Department, in big letters on the back. OFI may be confused with OFIce.
How about a new special employment program. Off duty police ride with fire dept. on their jobs.
let me guess. was this in a BLACK COMMUNITY? Bet yes. Where does this continual problem exist. With the blacks. Plain and simple. Stop blaming everybody else. Let the problem and the shootings lie where they may.
It's a damn shame!

That's actually normal. Sending an engine on medical calls, that is. I was FF/EMT before I was the police. Having an engine means having 4-6 extra people for lifting fatass patients or extricating patients from houses or being able to wet down a gasoline leak or having power saws and stuff.
They even do it in places where the Mumbling Prick can't make any money having his cousin sell fire apparatus to the city.
