Yup. That appears to be OUR Police Memorial. Used as a staging ground for picnickers and yes, Port-a-Johns. A reader writes that the grounds dedicated to OUR dead were used in a less than respectful manner by the Park District during the run-up and aftermath of the Mexico v Peru soccer match. Can anyone else verify this? We'd be demanding an apology at the very least.
Not the best choice of placement and possibly not the most innocent placement either.

I am not a fan of memorials, there are entirely too many memorials to every conceivable thing. A goofy crack whore in 019 got squashed by a semi truck and they started a memorial. I don't know if anyone left her rap sheet at the memorial or not.

A few days ago, a son of a Chicago Police Officer left this comment on my Gold Star Park video:
Not only should we show our respects to the officers that gave their lives in the process of doing their jobs but also to those that spent lifetimes protecting the public without thanks then finally get to retirement only to pass shortly after from the stress related illnesses that 35 to 40 yrs of duty can cause. My dad spent his life as a CPD officer, passed 3 yrs after retirement. He worked all the worst neighborhoods, the riots and DNC in the 60's and more...
I prefer to look at this a little differently than previous posters. I see people on the lawn between the memorial and street, people that may not otherwise have even known there was a memorial, and perhaps some of those people took notice of it.
As far as the porta-potties, they seem to be well off the area of the memorial and instead just off the sidewalk leading from the street to the area.
Maybe 001 foot or bike personnel can be assigned to the area of the memorial during large events that would lead to the potential of someone trying to desecrate the memorial in any way such as this soccer game, any Bears’ game, the 3rd of July, etc….

I posted this once before and I received a few inquiries but no one seemed to want to go on the record with me. Many like the idea but as typical, no one wants to take the risk. It is due to the attitudes like displayed in these photos that my children know, should I be killed in the line of duty, God forbid, neither the Mayor, nor the superintendent, nor any exempt who is not a personal friend of mine will be permitted to attend my services. The Police memorial grounds is considered the Great Lawn of Soldier Field and the permits for the area is issued by Timothy Lefevour (remember that name in the history of the court system)and not the Park District.
OT; I was at work on the westside not long ago when I was waved down by two marked cars with 62xx beat tags. They had no PDTs and asked us to run a plate on a suspicious vehicle. No big deal. We asked what unit they were from. They replied O.C.D., and they were being paid overtime to run around in their black pajamas. The plate/VIN come back clear.
Then they ask us to write it a parker because they didn't have any. Then to top it off I saw one of these OCD troopers call in on his radio that a parker had been issued. He told us that they can claim it as "activity" for the night.
WTF!!!!???!!!

Joe Kipka who was a youth officer and received a merit promotion to Sargent. Then James specail k Keating took over and gave him another promotion to Sargent over city hall's security detail. The same unit he dropped Jim Mcque in. Joe Kipka and James Keating were good friends, they coached there sons little league team together. Looks like they didn't make the big leagues, bad coaching probably. City Hall's security detail sounds like a bunch of political cronies. You kept them away during the time you were there. I notice the Thomas family didn't respectfully decline the massive benefits they got when the death which occurred while the man was on furlough of a heart attack was declared a Line of Duty death.
Other families of officers who died of a heart attack don't get those benefits and the only criteria was that John Thomas was the First Deputy of Police.
For that, the family got to take benefits from OUR pension fund that officers who work under the same stress do not get. That is what sucks.
The good that came out of that is that one huge piece of shit, Shannon McNulty, was removed from the police department.
The late John Thomas wouldn't still be taking these hits if the bosses treated each other like they treat the rest of the police department.
No sympathy here.

The CPMF checked into the allegation that portapotties were placed on the Gold Star Memorial and Park over the weekend. There is an area in front of the waterwall that is called the great lawn. This area is not part of Gold Star Memorial and Park and is rented out by the park district for different functions. There were portapotties on the asphalt driveway next to Museum Campus Drive. This is several hundred feet from the waterwall. Gold Star Memorial and Park was specifically designed so that the sacrifice area which contains the names of 526 police officers who died in the line of duty is located in the middle of the park and is protected by a berm and a concrete wall.
The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation has an excellent relationship with the Chicago Park District and will bring the concerns of police officers to their attention.
But at least I'll have control over my send off..If you agree with this idea just let your family know. Hopefully none of our families will ever have to follow through...

Please, think twice Sarge. Think about who you leave behind. Embarassing the evil cabal might be a wonderful thought, but you just might be creating a tough situation for your survivors. They can screw your survivors around, regardless of your sacrifice,in many ways. You'll be dead, but imagine Mama getting jerked around over some technicalities. Let the cabal have their show, they are an evil bunch and leave your family in peace. Although I am sure Mama would be able to fight on if she was jerked around, and I am sure she would have support from us, but why not leave her to concentrate on the important stuff, your kids. Leave her in the best state of mind as possible and let the kids see her mourn you, but not having to fight the powers that can mess her around at the same time. I am surprised to hear about Mike Semi. Why didn't he go to the airport with Mauer? He was taken care of by bosses for years. How useful can he be in personnel? Unless the is the commander's driver? He cannot work the street.

I heard Mike Semi is in charge of cadets. Unbelievable. Anything to keep him off the street. He is lucky Mauer is still around. Id that why cadets are quitting?
