Impaired?

Lots of rumors floating around concerning intoxication vs. impairment. It looks like the City wants to negotiate a clause that will allow them not only to random drug test, but to random alcohol test.

We're imagining the mayor is going to want a zero-tolerance stance, and we see the City pushing hard for this given the number of incidents involving off duty drinking. We imagine if you register even the slightest trace of alcohol, you're going to catch a SPAR unless you can prove it's cough syrup. If you test at the impairment threshold (currently rumored to be .04), you're going to be subject to a bit more intensive discipline.

The old days are gone folks. Behavior will be altered or else.

UPDATE: Some comments are understanding the above to mean "testing off-duty." Sorry if we were unclear. The majority of what we're hearing is about an alcohol test administered like a dope test - right after roll call at HQ trying to catch you coming into work tipsy.

We're still waiting to see them attempt to administer discipline for off duty intoxication that doesn't involve any other infraction (i.e. no driving, no fighting, etc.) We know there are a few cases pending somewhere, and if they come down as disciplinary in nature, the copper involved ought to find a lawyer to take down the entire Rules & Regulations as an unlawful infringement on his or her rights as a citizen.

This obviously goes for drinking a couple drinks off duty, it went for the kell flashlights, it went for vehicle pursuits and crashes, etc. I am so so sick of this departments bullshit. As previously stated we as public servants must submit to random drug/alcohol testing. Than as a whole and unified group we must also demand the same of our aldermen, politicians, and our mayor!!! in the past, back in the late 80's I personally used to "party" with our illustrious aldermen and politicians! Test them also. what's good enough for us measly public servants should be the same for those that are on the other side of "public" service also! Where can we as the citizens of once a great thriving city can we collectivly enact this order. It should be that what ever they vote for C.P.D should mirror our untouchable, do nothing, thieving, unethical corrupted, overpaid thieving aldermen. Anyone out there Know how can a poor, uneducated, ignoramus poor but tired citizen do or enact a law to change for EQUALITY mirror law. "I.E" their raises= cpd too. their pensions should also = cpd, their drug test policy should = cpd. why not?

I look forward to my first report to Department of Justice. The Mayor, Alderman and Superintendent will be first on the Names List. How dare they force me to violate the Constitutional rights of the citizens of this great city.

How dare they demand quotas for making arrests or search warrants? Writing tickets? Contact cards and Curfews? What is this high school?

How dare they violate my Constitutional Rights to drink illegally.

Ready to testify to congress about the blue conspiracy?

Amendment XVIII (the Eighteenth Amendment ) of the United States Constitution , along with the Volstead Act (which defined "intoxicating liquors" excluding those used for religious purposes and sales throughout the U.S.), established Prohibition in the United States . Ladies and Gents in Blue. The medical was created for this. I have met very few officers on this job who didn't take a DOD sometime in their career. No one can tell you that you have to go to work. I don't drink alot. That being said I have been really hungover before on reported for duty. The new policy is telling me to hit the medical. I will do that and I suggest everyone else do the same.

The little dictator hates us, hate him back!!!! NO REVENUE!!!!! The mayor doesn't want you to lock anybody up. He wants parkers and movers!!!! Don't give the little asshole either!!!!!

I heard a rumor not long ago that the Mayor thinks were in slowdown because we don't have a contract. The midget shows you that he does not know how to read the pulse of the dept. The contract upsets us but under no circumstances is that the major reason for the lack of activity.

The mayor only uses the theory X style of management. He is a dummycrat. He is better than you and he knows whats best for you.
Keep voting dummycrat and you will reap what you sew!!!! I'll be voting straight republican.

Who will conduct the tests? Incompetent white shirts scared of their job? Rather than take a chance to help anyone, lts and Capt's will strip anyone with alcohol on their breath. At least with urine test there is a court tested, established protocol. Alcohol policy is non-existent. Breathylizer is designed for one thing: Driving. Not walking. Results are determined by the white shirt. How many are trained to detect impairment besides the smell of alcohol? This is really an extreme reaction to a internal problem of alcoholism. Do not paint all sworn as abusers of alcohol. OH, the humanity of idiot leaders.

How about give us good contract and then lay down the law. You have beat me down so bad that I couldnt care less what you do. All I want to do is retire and get away from this shameful shithole of a city.

You got what you wanted oh great political democratic machine of chitcago...now deal with it. I predict mayor nutsack (daley) will be screaming for Police work when the end of summer killings go through the cieling.

When I'm off duty, leave me alone.

If I blow up the neighbor's garage, then you can do your thing.

Sometimes a few beers or martinis is just what the doctor ordered after dealing with the scum of the earth.

Doesn't mean I'm an alcoholic just cuz I enjoy an occasional brain warming.

thats fine i will agree with the drinking policy if.......we get the following checks
UNIFORM ALLOWANCE. 1800
DUTY AVAILABILITY. 2400
HOUSING STIPEND. 3000
NO DRINKING STIPEND 5000
this would be a small price to pay for the city. in my opinion there are about 10,000 of us. and at 5k a piece it would cost the city 50 million to prevent us from drinking. thats merely one lawsuit that could reach 50 million....i would agree to not drink outside for 5k a year. thats over 400 a month....thats like a side job. Im not like some of these coppers that run for the bottle to relieve their problems....i go home to my family and enjoy time with them.

Alcohol testing is coming, heard it myself over a month ago when I got called for my "random drug". Specimen collector stated that .04 will be the limit in new contract. They are hoping to catch those who come to work with alcohol in the system. That's why you have to go as soon as you report. They figure if you have alcohol in your system two hours before work you will be consisdered a "problem child" that needs watching. Then they will call you in a couple of days later to see if you have alcohol in your system again.......Watch out weekend warriors who work second watch......or maybe 1st watch who have a couple belts will watching jr play baseball...and then take a quick nap before work.....

"Do the unions really do anyone any good??

6/08/2008 09:33:00 AM"

A Union, any union, is only as strong as it's membership is united.

Unite a be strong.

Allow yourselves to remain divided, continue to look to the 'leadership' for direction, and you remain impotent.

This site has done more in the last six months to unite membership than the FOP has done in decades.

Don't waste this; savor it, appreciate it and increase it, until only the feeble-minded remain loyal to the Stuttering Prick and his clan.

Wouldn't that be ironic, that the CPD brings this mumbling moron to his knees?

Burn off rate on the average is 0.015 per hour. Males need 60 minutes to burn off one beer. Females need 90 minutes. This is a very general average. I hope this helps.

Instead of being an alcoholic for the first time in my life, my family doctor has me popping Prozac just to handle the depression of this job.

A healthy, low key dose of don't give a f-ck also does wonders. I notice more and more that coppers come to roll call with a blank zombie stare. Nobody gives a f-uck.

This J-Fed is clueless. Why don't they just put the dept. into federal receivership and be done with it. I got to much time in to go elsewhere. If you are new, get out now. The whole job has flat-lined. Turn off the life support. We're brain dead.
