Meet "Chalkie," the Official 2016 Chicago Olympic Mascot:
Chalkie represents that mythic figure of yore: the homicide victim. As with the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, and more, the number of people who believe in the Homicide Victim (Chalkie) has diminished. The younger generation has stopped believing in the homicide victim.
Chicago residents have begun a new campaign to ensure another generation doesn’t let Chalkie fade into the annals of history. Following a marked decline in the number of Chicagoans who believe in Chalkie over the past several years, in 2008, the citizens of Chicago have refocused their efforts on reviving this time-honored tradition by increasing the number of homicide victims. This increase will ensure that the future generations of Chicagoans keep Chalkie in their thoughts for the rest of their lives.
This institution is ingrained in the very soul of the City of Chicago and must survive. As the weather cooperates, more and more Chicagoans will participate in the effort to keep this Chicago tradition alive. In keeping with the Olympic spirit, hundreds of Chicagoans are dying to contribute to the success of the Games.

I know this is off comment...but this department sucks. I've always done what I'm told, given them what they want, and gone that extra mile to be the police. Awards have come and I'm grateful. But, I've gotten CR#'s,lawsuits, and dumped out of my spot because of work. So when I get reassigned, I end up on the northside working a watch. I have enough time to get days and feel that I still need to do policework. My drive is'nt bad and for the most part the PO's on the watch are good guys. But a question, when did the police(brass on down) on the northside get to be such pussies that nobody does work even when they live there. I have to live everyday with the fact that Finnigan and his guys, Abbate, Jefferson Tap guys, and Jody have completly changed this job. We listen to the guys who dont do anything(movers, parkers, arrests) get everything they want. Guys who work cant work together. Supervisors think everybody that isnt sucking their ass is up to nogood. I hear that 016 sends 3rd watch guys to 015 to help on the weekend. Another great idea. Then, guys that make great arrests are admonished and asked about their uniform. I should've stayed south just to know things are not going to get any better. This northside should be careful before it ends up like 008...no where to live.

Have you heard about the ruling the Illinois State Supreme Court handed down yesterday? Illinois v. Ross, this case rules that an Armed Robbery with a BB gun can NOT be considered an Armed Robbery. The BB gun does not constitute a "dangerous weapon." Is this going to do for armed robberies what Gardner v. Tenn did for burglaries. A little off subject. I have been working a heater homicide from this weekend. A school teacher who was a true victim of a violent crime. Over the past few days we have gotten no help from the community. Eyewitness refuses to speak to us, an intented target who has so far lied to us and no other investigative leads. The funny part is both these indiviuals have no IR#s. The only people that care can't help and the rest of the community turns a blind eye. This may be the reason the clearance rate has been around 15%. This case is one of many this year. The citizens may not be ready for a change or help. Just remember that you can't help someone (community) if it won't help itself (police). Don't get in trouble. Stay safe.
Why do they cover up the homicides that sre traffic related? There are several people killed each week from revoked license thugs. Offcourse it's racial profiling if you pull them over. Oh I'm just chillin this is ma girlfriends couzins ca uuuuuuu huh

If it is true about OCD in DOG , tried a few years ago. The court overtime killed the city- a month or two and they went to a fri- sat or sun- mon routine. Whole teams were in court on their day off, 8 hrs for each . It was great

No. We never used chalk to outline the bodies of homicide victims. Same with NYPD and other big city homicide units.
If injured, the subject is rushed to an E-R, possibly DOA. If deceased, the scene is photographed before the body is pronounced dead and removed to the morgue.
"Chalkie" is just a Hollywood invention.
However, if you or J-Fed wants to use chalk, go for it.

I have sat back and kept my mouth shut until now. First of all, why is the Dept adding so many exempt spots when the city is facing a budget crunch. Our officers are being affected; they cannot receive a decent raise because the city is facing budget problems. Since the new regime, the following exempt spots have been created: Chief of CAPS Helms, Chief of IAD Skahill, Chief of Homeland Security Daly, Assistant Deputy Chief of Homeland Security Murphy, Commander of IAD Rodriguez, Commander of Intelligence. On top of this, there are two Commanders assigned to the Mayors Security Detail Roti and Carlo. And now the new regime is looking for a Director of Marketing and a Director of Human Services. The salaries of these positions is over one million dollars. Wouldnt the one million dollars be better served toward a raise for the rank and file. Maybe this would boost morale. Allow me to explain why these positions are not needed, yet created to keep clout within the Department. Why does the Department have both a Chief of Caps and a Director of CAPS Implementation. What can one position do or accomplish that the other position can't? If anything, eliminate the Director of CAPS Implementation position. Wasn't Vance Henry the subject of a federal and internal investigation regarding his involvement with members of the Gangster Disciples Street Gang. Why was this swept under the door? Why did we not learn of the outcome of both the federal and IAD investigation? Why is there a Chief of Internal Affairs and now a Commander of Internal Affairs? What happended to having Lieutenants assigned as Commanding Officers. Didnt Rodriguez get dumped from Management and Labor Affairs because he was doing a horrific job? Yet a new position was created for him, unlike for those dumped by JFed. Why is there a Chief of Homeland Security. Is this not the responsibility of the Bureau of Strategic Deployment? And now we have to take care of Murphy because he had the clout to become one of the Mayors cabinet members, but because he fell out of grace we have to afford him the same salary and pension benefits? Why do we have a new Intelligence unit; isn't intelligence a duty and responsibility of the DOC? And now the Dept is seeking a Director of Marketing. This is a good thing, but why can't News Affairs take up this image enhancing responsibility. Is it because Monique Bond is so inept at what she is doing, but is untouchable. And why does the Mayors Security Detail need two Commanders when units as large as Narcotics only have one commander.
Officers, wake up, nobody cares about us. There are so many cost-effective measures, so many morale boosting measures, so many officer-safety measures that can be taken by this Department that will never be taken as long as the fat cats get their positions!!!! More to come!

Not only that but the officer who was shot at was struck several times while this piece of garbage used his grandmother as a shield!! I repeat the copper was shot at and received multiple gunshot wounds as a direct result of being shot at by HER GRANDSON! Was at Mt. Sinai at 1610 hours today (Friday June 6) for a victim shot twice and probably on his way out from 015. There were Five CFD ambulances already THERE with 4 people shot and one stabbed. The city has hung on to that 2080 hours in a work year forever. I remember 25 years ago I used to ask silly questions like why we rotate watches, backwards, every 28 days when it is so bad for officers' health. The answer I always got was "because that's how we've always done it."
The rest of the City work force works 2000 hours a year, police have to work 2080. They are stuck on this.
I for one would give the fitness requirement to the city in a heartbeat if we go to a sane schedule like 4 and 2. 18 days off extra a year and this old fart would be out jogging, I guarantee.

I have sat back and kept my mouth shut until now. First of all, why is the Dept adding so many exempt spots when the city is facing a budget crunch. Our officers are being affected; they cannot receive a decent raise because the city is facing budget problems. Since the new regime, the following exempt spots have been created: Chief of CAPS Helms, Chief of IAD Skahill, Chief of Homeland Security Daly, Assistant Deputy Chief of Homeland Security Murphy, Commander of IAD Rodriguez, Commander of Intelligence. On top of this, there are two Commanders assigned to the Mayors Security Detail Roti and Carlo. And now the new regime is looking for a Director of Marketing and a Director of Human Services. The salaries of these positions is over one million dollars. Wouldnt the one million dollars be better served toward a raise for the rank and file. Maybe this would boost morale. Allow me to explain why these positions are not needed, yet created to keep clout within the Department. Why does the Department have both a Chief of Caps and a Director of CAPS Implementation. What can one position do or accomplish that the other position can't? If anything, eliminate the Director of CAPS Implementation position. Wasn't Vance Henry the subject of a federal and internal investigation regarding his involvement with members of the Gangster Disciples Street Gang. Why was this swept under the door? Why did we not learn of the outcome of both the federal and IAD investigation? Why is there a Chief of Internal Affairs and now a Commander of Internal Affairs? And now we have to take care of Murphy because he had the clout to become one of the Mayors cabinet members, but because he fell out of grace we have to afford him the same salary and pension benefits? Why do we have a new Intelligence unit; isn't intelligence a duty and responsibility of the DOC? And now the Dept is seeking a Director of Marketing. This is a good thing, but why can't News Affairs take up this image enhancing responsibility. Is it because Monique Bond is so inept at what she is doing, but is untouchable. And why does the Mayors Security Detail need two Commanders when units as large as Narcotics only have one commander.

The department was over 16,000 cops in 1998 when Hilliard became Super, what happened? We are going to be comparable in crime and have 3,000 less cops. The city is saving over $150,000,000 a year and complains about money. That would equal the mean between 1998-2008 x 10= Approx. $750,000,000 total. That is half the skyway money. 400 W. Superior and 50 W Washington have been jam packed the last decade. Central Bizz Districts (1@18) mega traffic on Michigan, Ontario, State and every other profit region. Condos sky high with an increased population. Taxes sky high even with the war and bad economy nation wide. Gas prices insane and worst traffic jam ever. Most of the money made in narcotics must be circulated back to the city. I was told by a jeweler downtown that gang members buy jewelry with tens of thousands of dollars. How about the expensive rims, rides, hos, drinks, electronics, and so on. Soon all the dirty cops will be arrested and the media will be bord (no ratings Theeeeeee Running Man, staring Arnold Schwartzenneger MSP). Where is all this money Mr. State treasurer. Is it all in your dad's bank or did Rezco borrow it and lend it to Obama. You can take that to the bank. The juice is loose at Mt. Olympus.
