Allegedly a "temporary" reassignment while everyone holds their breath to see how outrageous the "Cult of Phleger Pfollowers" acts out:
- "I [Cardinal George] have asked Father Michael Pfleger, Pastor of St. Sabina's Parish, to step back from his obligations there," the Cardinal said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon, "and take leave for a couple of weeks from his pastoral duties, effective today."
The order requires Fr. Pflger to at least temporarily leave the rectory he's called home for the past 24 years. It's clear that Pfleger tried to fight the move.
A law unto himself. Perhaps it's time to learn some humility?

Seems that poor Karolina Obrycka (you know, the bartender) is terrified of the big bad police, and her lawyer says just goes to show how low the police will go to harrass his client. I can't wait to get out of this city.

IVE been a member of the Catholic Church for 32 years and have had about a dozen or so clergy men moved through my parish... nearly all of whom I wish would/could have stayed for 24 years! Pastor's have six year terms at parishes. Two terms are not uncommon. A third term needs approval by the archbishop. Four terms are most of the time denied. Father Phleger in 24 years must have pissed someone off in his parish. He needs a new start somewhere else.

But in the case of St. Sabini's, it's suppose to be a Roman Catholic Church, a good number of the individuals who go there are not Catholics and no attempt is made to convert them to the faith.
When I worked at headquarters, there were several Black women who went to St. Sabini's and were parishioners, I asked them how did that work, you're not Catholic and they all informed me that being Catholic doesn't matter, it's a Black Church.

It's very rare for a pastor to stay at one church for that long. There are a lot of reasons why pastors are periodically reassigned, and when it's happened in parishes around my neck of the woods, it doesn't matter what the parishoners say.
Once a pastor is done, he's done. Pfleger has created a cult of personality around himself. He'd have done Mao and Stalin proud.

As a Catholic my parish had a long running, well liked pastor removed and the reason given was that a priest can only remain a pastor for a certain time period so that his position doesnt become compromised. Whatever the hell that means.
We questioned the church but respected their decision.
The last time father fagger was supposed to be removed the church buckled to "community pressure" or some other bullshit
This just goes to show you that racism is alive and well in the state of chicago and being a white nowadays gets you nothing except a larger tax bill.
As far as the parish bringing in all this money that is total bullshit. There are parishes in very well to do suburbs that put that parish to shame and those parishioners still lose well liked parish priests and pastors. Its interesting about the "terms" a priest is allowed to stay at a church. I grew up and went to St. Aloysius in Humboldt Park (claremont & Lemoyne). I remained a parishioner although we moved well out of the parish because we had a wonderful priest Father Mike. We were all very upset when after two terms almost three he was sent to another parish because "that's how it is always done" no priest is allowed, without approval from the Pope you would think, to stay longer. Lets see what happens here. I'll or should I say we"ll be pretty damn pissed off if he stays!! if for anything alone plain principle of it.

It would appear that Father Phleger, like Bishop Oscar Romero and the murdered Jesuits of El Salvador, and Jean Baptiste Aristide of Haiti has found himself in the in the cross-hairs of those in the church (and elsewhere) who defend the status quo. Hardly a surprising development in the Catholic church of Emperor Constantine--one Jesus Christ would not have recognized.
