Two things about this nitwit Herrera:
1) He said he was a good copper who went to SOS and discovered that bosses wanted him to creatively write case and arrest reports. That he fell in line with Finnegan and followed him down this trail of despair that forced him to commit crimes on duty and line his pockets.
Now I've never been an SOS guy. When they came to the district they pretty much acted like they were full of shit, but not even knowing all of them I guarantee that there were hard working coppers there who could get the numbers that the bosses wanted without resorting to creativity. Why didn't Herrera seek those older officers for guidance?
Oh, I know. Because he didn't want to. He wanted to run and gun with Finnegan and act like a criminal.
2) When they threw the $300 in his lap that fateful night
did he give it back and tell them he wasn't on that bullshit? Did he give the money to charity? Did he stick it in a can and bury it in the yard so when this day came he could dig it up and say, I never wanted it . The bosses and jerry made me take it, here you can have it back?
No. He bought cars and real estate and nice clothes and put additions on his house.
Herrera is just another jagoffs who slipped through the cracks of the hiring process and was given the keys to the henhouse. One criminal among 13,500 (sorry) who has painted us all ( I know it shouldn't but that's the way it goes) with his filthy brush.

It's all part of the slide downward. It happens to every crooked cop.
They break rules without worrying about how it will effect them or other cops. They seek glory. They put other cops into a position to cover for their BS. They do it so much that they no longer give a f#ck about the other cop. He's just another thing they use to get more glory.
They start believing they're great. They believe in all those BS medals. They think they should get more from this job because they're so much better than all the other cops. They take money. They justify it because they think they're doing a better job.
They get caught. They're shamed in front of their family and friends. They're scared. They don't want to go to prison, so they rat out their partners.
They justify it by telling themselves, it was those other cops I was working with. They were the crooks. I was just going along. I didn't want the money. I wanted to do the right thing.
When they testify against their partners, they tell themselves that now they're really great. Now, they are really fighting the bad guys. Their partners were bad news and now they're doing the right thing by testifying against them.
But, the only reason they do it is because they don't want to go to prison. No matter how much wrong they do, no matter how many people they rat out, they have a little voice in their head that tells them over and over, "You're great. You're the best."
No one matters but them. They will use anyone (family, friends, other cops) to get what they want. Glory, then money, then freedom.
Remember to always take a hard, critical look at the people you choose to surround yourself with on this job.

However we all know it can get you jammed up by the j-fraud circus. So keep on looking for the walk off when you turn down the block. You must be the god of all P.O.'s who can even feel one rock/blow on a protective pat down. The ghetto has never been worth a copper losing his job or taking serious time because he wanted to police. Dope has always been touchy when it comes to paper. This understanding is gone with j-fraud and not worth my house and family. They don't sell dope shoot or call out the police in the part of the city that i live in. So fuck them.

I call BS. No boss can prevent a PO from filling out a par form to bid for an opening. If he makes the bid, he's transferred there. Of course, the PO only has the choice of going to a district that posts openings, but if their current situation is that bad, then they can get out....if they really want to.
