Where Do They Get These Crowds?
In the days of the smoke filled rooms, they used to call it "packing the house." Old Man Daley was a master at the practice, seeing as how he controlled a patronage army that rivals many foreign standing armies. Rumor has it, the younger mayor is trying the same thing:
- Many city employees were told that if they went to the olympic rally downtown today they could get paid for it. Surprised? Why, this is king Daley's little baby why wouldn't he pay his workers to go campaign for him and his will? Was Obama there too? He was advertised as going to be there. City workers getting paid and getting comp time to go to a olympic rally and just fill the seats so it looks like there are many supporters. Sent on department email too. Any news talking heads going to mention this? Doubt it, as usual the liberals will sweep this under the carpet so the sheep can go about their lives unaware of the corruption and use of their tax dollars as our budget spirals downward and taxes reach historic highs. Anyone have a copy of this email? How about a thread on this SCC?
We didn't get a copy of this in our department e-mail for the simple reason we don't have a company account - or at least we don't think we do. We have a hard enough time keeping track of every one's e-mail here. But to use on-the-clock city workers to pack a rally? On a Friday before quitting time? In Chicago?

IOC is hoping for Obama because McCain raked them over the coals during 2001 Senate hearings investigating Olympic tradition of bribery. They know Chicago would be wide-open with a friendly President and Justice Dept. occupied elswhere.
This may come as a surprise to SCC and others but.....
city workers can be found at the closest swipe out box nearest to the home. They start lining up at 2:15 pm to swipe out at 3:30 pm. Think about it, they swipe in let's say at 7 am. Now they travel to their job site any where in the city. Could be 45 minutes travel time. After having coffee and shooting the shit with others, lunch, some work and soon to leave job site to head back to closest swipe out box. Some of these guys are so bold, it makes your head spin!
Police and fire personnel swipe in AT THEIR UNIT/HOUSE OF ASSIGNMENT.
What a continuation theft of labor/services these city workers proliferate and their supervisors condone.

The ward offices have hundreds of political hack volunteers who get promoted meritoriously for door knocking and petition signing so THEY have to be available at the drop of a phone call. NOT to mention these people also are working on OUR tax dime when they attended this garbage rally.

that happens all the time - the mayor has his people call department heads to send city employees to fill seats at city council meetings so the protestors sit up in the gallery. He also has city employees fill seats for his budget speech and alot of other things in council chambers.
Just flood the IOC with negative comments about having the games.
The IOC wants maximum support from the locals. Shitcago was in the 60 some % range. Only Tokyo was lower.
On a recent tribune blog, I'd say the comments regarding the games here were 70% against, that's from John Q. Public.
It's good to see the department employs the handicap....
Isn't there a general order against political rallies? ......I mean aside from being detailed as security and crowd control.........good thing we have that ethics test....

You must be a non-police troll HATER since that is only if you are on duty at the time. R.D.O, first watch, 3rd watch it would be no-deal, even though it is the Spring Formal Uniform Inspection; if you knew what that meant.
Unit Commanders could do that in the pre-contract days, when it was just hour-for-hour time only, not time-and-a-half money involved.

A small percentage of the attendees r on the clock!, and the people that stay behind, working the street in the district, KNOW that they may have to handle a few more jobs during the few hours, and DO NOT mind, besides Sunday morning in the busy districts are about the only time u may be slow.

Once again, nobody who marches at "R MEMORIAL MARCH" is paid for it. "US" who march at St. Jude (which is what you would call it if you were the police) is there off the clock. Also the march has never taken "3-4 HOURS". More like the march itself takes 20 mins and if you time it right around an hour or so waiting for it to kick off. Once again, you would know this if you were the police.
I would tell ya "nice try" but it wasnt even that. I will tell ya try again though. Next time, just, think it out a little and do some homework before you get sent back home with yer head hangin low. We should get three hour for marching for St. Jude which goes straight to St.Jude. Subsequently, 3 x 5500 = $16,500 to officers families every year. Possibly 3 x 10,000 when the news spreads.

I would say MOST of the people at St. Judes are OFF DUTY. They DO NOT get paid, although at one time, you did get 3 hours of OT for attending.
Hell, we are working on duty at EVERY PARADE in the city, and we can't go to St. Judes?

Amazing! Complain about Burke's detail and other city pols,and now the man said no to CPD and you complain. He's a fed,let the secret service guard him. That leaves coppers free to do other things. You can't have it both ways.
