At least 20 of the 25 District Tact Lts will be changed by 1 Aug to stir up the pot. The only ones that wont change will follow the same path as the new commanders.

Yes, Mike Chasen could be a jagoff at times, but so can anyone of us. But one thing he NEVER EVER did was try to hurt a cop. Condescending, some times, Egotistical, some times, but the man is very knowledgeable when it comes to this job. I think many of you posting negative things about him probably fucked up a crime scene or two, or didn't do your job properly. Of all the people in upper command positions he was one of the few who actually knew what he was doing. His number one priority always was to protect the cops on the street and that IS the truth.
I hope Chasen is reading all this because he would be laughing his ass off. Chasen was a tough old school guy who could be abrasive but so what.........this is a big city police department, not an elite prep school for pampered kids. I had numerous dealings with him and underneath the crusty exterior he is a good guy who knew how to take care of coppers and take care of business. It stuns me that they get rid of someone with all his experience and knowledge at the present time with so many inexperienced exempts. Nothing surprises me with this department anymore.

The guy worked here for 39 years. You think anyone can work anywhere that long and not have people that like and dislike them. This is just another morale kick in the balls for the department. You put in that amount of time and that is how the department treats you. You come into work one day and a few hours later your carrying your shit out the door.
I dont care if you love or hate the guy, no one that has put that much time in deserves to go out like that. Not a patrolman, detective, sgt , lt or exempt. If they can show that much disrespect to a deputy chief with 39 years on the job, what do you think they will do to a beat guy/tac/gang guy?

Chasen treated blueshirts like dogshit. When he was a Sergeant in Area 4 V/C back in the early 90's, a lot of the work that made him and his detectives look good was done by the beat coppers and tact officers in 011 and 010. Chasen rarely gave credit where credit was due. The dicks were appreciative and very cool, but Chasen was a complete stroke most of the time.

big difference between chasen and Byrne at crime scenes. chasen always was running around fucking things up, pointing to this pointing to that without even listening to coppers or det's that were onscene before he was because he thought he knew everything but he 75% of the time was dead wrong.

MR from 19 is hated by all. he does have 20 years however as soon as he was done with his FTO he was in gangs. his grandfather was (Dan Ryan you know the expressway) Its doesn't surprise me he would do that as he always does the sheets just before his days off. A stone Prick was a nasty bully Sgt a Nasty bully Lt. I was in 14 when he was there we had a party when he left.

I am a tactical lieutenant, and I know,as does anyone with a brain, that the "Team" will continue to function at the same level with or without me. It is the sergeants and police officers who do the hard, dirty work. My job, from the Department's perspective is mostly administrative, that is, to sign a bunch of papers and to implement, as much as practicable, edicts from HQ. From my own perspective, my most important job is, or that which is my 'value added' to the tactical team, is to make certain that the men and women are as safe as is posible, given the nature of our work, that they go home at least as well as they were when the got to work, that the officers understand what will get them into trouble and, if at all possible, help them out of trouble. Tactical lieutenants are fungible, change us monthly and for whatever reason. As for the effect on the lives of the real workers, "No likely end could bring them loss

I worked with him and he was a great copper and not hated by all, just dogs that he doesn't do anything for, if you work, you have no problems with him. Looks like we have a superstar on or hands. Never made a mistake while on the job. Never had to call for a Sergeant or above. The shooting you comment on occured because some P.O. f#@*ed up (missed the targets while on surveillance.) OV had every angle covered the day of the shooting. But it just so happened that one of the surveillance officers had to use the rest room. But next time you comment on this, know the (true) facts first.
First of all Mike Chasen was Field group B. A/3/A/4 and A/5. not Field Group C.
2nd of all Chasen was a lot of things but the most important thing he was a policeman who took care of policemen. All the other stuff that you want to cry about does nt mean jack shit. Chasen was always looking out for the police. And if you think different you dont know what your talking about. Ask any P.O. that was ever involved in a shooting that Chasen was on the scene of.
Last scene I was on Mike Chasen was more worried about how the Detectives were dressed than the officer involved in the shooting!He actually cursed out the present chief of the D unit in front of all on scene.

I worked with him and he was a great copper and not hated by all, just dogs that he doesn't do anything for, if you work, you have no problems with him. Are you sure about the Dan Ryan connection?I heard cousin is an alderman. It is a known fact he has made every rank on clout.Had over 15 years on and was walking a post. Hey Mike, If you read this, I just want you to know you will be missed. I know people don't like you, hell A LOT of people don't like me. But I can say one thing that noone can dispute. If any copper is in a shooting, they would want you there! The New BOSS dropped the ball on this one. I know you were a short timer, I just hope you trained a few guys to do what you know how to do. I heard a lot about how arrogant Chasen was from a number of sources- including my own father, but to be honest I was pleasantly surprised. When I had something to say (several occasions) and knew what I was talking about he did something not many exempts will do....he actually listened. The comments about Tom Byrne are of course spot on as well... a great boss. I think the major difference is Tom Byrne comes off as laid back and puts people at ease, whereas Chasen puts people on edge a lot. Still as much as I think he was nuts for still being on the job with almost forty years on, my dealings with him were always positive...

Bump three times????? He's only a Lt. I see that as two times. Yes he does know wire taps but lets put the blame on him for not being able to utilize this skill in the district level. Makes no sense! And about not knowing the streets you are incredibly misinformed. I think the problem with all you OV haters is jealousy. He does the job very well and gets rewarded.
