- I work in personnel and can guarantee and prove that the number of 282 spots open is untrue and a complete lie. that number can be multiplied by a few then we will be getting to the truth. I cant believe that the city and the department are lying like this.. im sure its daley wanting to save money, after all more police, more money spent on officers and equipment. if this continues, i don't care, ill post the actual internal department roster with the true numbers. it has every p.o. where they are assigned, rank, and status. it also gives the exact number of how many paychecks and people are employed for the cpd. and if they lying continues and our officers continue to be endangered the sun times is gonna receive one hell of an anonymous package.
Get it to Kass at the Trib or Wambir and Novak at the Sun Times. Kass for the obvious reasons, Wambir and Novak as they were instrumental in breaking the "Hired Truck" scandal.

There is no quick fix for this, but at least start hiring some people so next summer we have some help out here.

They not posted it and offered to everyone where the most senior officer would be able to take it instead of the not-too-much-time-on the-job-tact-officers. - Forget sending in TRU to "trouble" districts, where they answer no radio calls, do their own things, and then leave. Send them into the district, send their line-up to OEMC and have them respond to calls for service, and handle the jobs, and then perhaps the beat officer can patrol his beat, perhaps then there can be more on-view arrests, and then perhaps the rapids can get lunch on a daily basis.
- Ah, silly me trying to apply any amount of logic in an illogical organization.
Can someone who come up with the number of officers that is need to man all beat cars, wagons, tac, tru, bike, detective, etc? We know we are short but what is the count that is needed? The infamous 13,500, 15,000 or 20,000? How about some one from personel?

Speaking as a civilian, I hope that someone somewhere is able to have that package arrive to the news media. Also, I appreciate what police officers do and I don't understand why this contract stuff is still on the table. It needs to be fixed.
We are wasting too much money on all of Daley's dog-and-pony shows. This city is going down the tubes. He needs to get back to the basics of what makes this a livable city for the average joe.
IF this is ture, and I personally believe it's much closer than the lying Mayor and his nitwits, It belongs in front of the citizens of Chicago NOW. Not just for the sake of the PO's but for the PO's to have validity supporting their discontent.

Everyone keeps whining about the number of police that should be and the number that really exists. Get off your crybaby butt, go to your local public library, sit down with their copy of the city budget. That's right, each branch library has one. Spend an hour or so, cause it will take that long, and count how many positions are budgeted for by unit and rank. Then go to data warehouse and compare. The FOP should be on top of that, but we know what a bunch of useless POS they are, so someone has to do it on their own. I am in the KMA club and personally, one morning I am goint to wake up, scratch me
ba--s, and go down and retire so I am not going to spend the time looking up the #'s. But I will still read the blog and hope that the pendulum swings the other way.

There are beat maps available for every district on line. One just needs to count the number of beats in each district and that will give you a very basic number of the manpower needed to fill just only those beats cars. You should be able to get a pretty good idea how many bodies are needed each day on each watch to PROPERLY man these districts.
The maps even tell you what the rapid cars are.

The city is budgeted for 13,500 bodies in the police dept. We all know we're far short of that in actual accounts. What bothers me is, what's happening to the rest of the money in the budget? Is it a "rob Peter to pay Paul" situation? Or is it, "I'll just skim a little off the top for me" situation? That's alot of salary money going missing? I ask and beg someone to look into that, someone like the feds or a news reporter. Where's the Beef?!
Just remember... if you send that info to the press you are totally covered by "whistleblower laws" that make you completely immune fron retaliatory actions by the city, especially since they are lying to the public and making the city less safe.
Send it and you will be untouchable... and a hero to your fellow officers and the good citizens of this city.

How about asking for the number of radios in the CPD. That will more accurately reflect the number of units that are actually assigned to the field. That number will not count inside units, or "house mouses."
I recalled J-Fed saying that he doesn't expect his command officers to cross their "t"s and dot their "i"s every time as I read some of the reasons that we can take time. What a double standard. Stay safe-do nothing.

Everybody knows that most laser printers, as well as most ink jet printers print a code that identifies the serial numbered unit. It's supposed to be for the purpose of tracing stolen printers by their product output.
That's been common knowledge for years.
By J-FEDS own admission, the city has shorted us at least 140 MILLION dollars. This is money that has been stolen from the public safety funds. This does not include money that got diverted from buildings, new radios and cars that work. In the meantime, city hall is handing out contracts for way over retail to Friends of the mayor. If the press won't say something, how about a revolt of the taxpayers?a

When you read some of the below(above) blog comments imploring the "insider" to send the truth to the media it should turn your myoptic lights on.
We, police, are real people. We like fairness, truth, peace, and happiness like everyone else should in a civilized society.
If we are asking for the truth to be sent to the "media" don't you think that there's validity to the request?
At the very least, if someone went into any police station in the city at about 4 hours into the shift (all to be fair) and asked to see the daily worksheet for that current watch, (usually they are posted) to view, You might get a glimpse of what we are talking about in terms of "street bodies per watch".
However, do not be fooled. These sheets are rigged also in many cases to hide bodies.
Also each day a menning headcount is sent to the CC room dispatch for their units assigned. This is the accurate count but you won't get this without help. It's explosive.
Freedom of information can get this it's all recorded.
