Cozzi Wins a Round

  • The Chicago Police Board made the correct decision in suspending — and not firing — an officer who was videotaped beating a 60-year-old man handcuffed and shackled to a wheelchair, a Cook County judge has ruled.
  • On Friday, Cook County Circuit Judge William Maki upheld the Chicago Police Board’s two-year, unpaid suspension of Cozzi, 51. In November, the Chicago Police Department had appealed the board’s suspension, asking the court to fire Cozzi.
We believe this is Cline's lawsuit attempting to overturn the Police Board ruling. J-Fed's personal disaster still waits in the wings of Federal Court.

J-PUD sticks it to a copper who's already been punished.

J-Pud has egg on his face from the taste and overall violent crime stats.

J-Pud is going to now espouse "Zero-tolerance" out of the book of Braxton.

No contract, no way!

Next time your lt gets up demanding "quality of life" arrests
remember this......

Look him / her in the eyes and think , 'When did this speaker EVER do this in their life on the street'?

Generate reports, report everything. Don't kill crime on paper. Protect people in danger not smokers, drinkers, and litterers.

No contract , no work.

Holy drop the case Batman!!!

It's amazing how the Police Board not once but twice interviewed candidates for superintendent after Cline. Da mayor not happy with the Board's professional recommendations decides to talk to a Federal Judge friend (burke)? And comes up with J-Fed.

The Police Board never gets a chance to interview J-Clown or verify his credentials or evaluates his knowledge, skills and abilities.

The Alderman just climb on the bandwagon cause it's Da mayor's idea. Nobody (not even Carothers) except for one black female Alderman says, hey wait a minute I don't like this! Smart women...she knows not to trust the Irish Midget.

Sounds like Megs Field and Grant Park all rolled up into one all over again. O'K J-clown go chase after Cozzi, you go get him. I bet the case is dropped, thrown out or just plained old not guilty.

What I want to know is who is going to prosecute you J-Clown for ordering 13,500 Chicago Police Officers to intentionally violate the civil rights of three million citizens in Chicago in order to comply with your illegal arrest quotas that your subordinates are calling for?

He should have said goodbye to this job and this city a long time ago.

This is just a job. There are lots of other jobs out there and most of them are better than this one.

"Being the police" doesn't exist anymore. We are clerks documenting events, nothing more. Reporters who work for the city. The job everyone loved is gone. Cozzi should have let it go, the rest of you should too.

The courts took a step in the right direction with this decision. There have been a slew of good honest police officers that were unjustly stripped, suspended and fired in an attempt to satiate the demands of reformers. The problem is that the officers that were UNFAIRLY disciplined were all honest working coppers without "CLOUT".

The SMALL minority of officers that caused all of the scandals were exempt from discipline, while those without "CLOUT" were viewed as disposable and tossed to the wolves.

This is one of the primary reasons that the morale on the Chicago Police Department hit rock bottom. Police officers will not work in an environment where good cops are hungout to dry.

If they start reinstating officers who were unjustly disciplined they will improve morale, which will reduce crime.

Working officers are watching all of what is occurring and what has occurred very keenly and will NOT tolerate disciplinary injustice within the ranks.

Everyone should be subjected to fair and impartial justice, including police officers.

Cozzi is just one of the many officers that have been jammed UNJUSTLY,stripped, suspended and fired on the CPD.

Until they start reinstating and compensating those other officers too I am not going to do shit.

I have seen alot of good coppers getting the shaft for horseshit. I have also seen the "clout babies" pull outrageous stunts and it is overlooked.

Keep shafting the good guys and you will have nobody doing anything on the CPD.

Bring the good coppers back and we will know you are serious about morale, otherwise watch as crime surges and morale plummets furhter.

We are one,all for one and one for all. True Blue forever!!!

SCC:

I received this today courtesy of our FOP Lodge email blast.

The sons of bitches that assassinated our brother Mike Ridges want out of prison.

Members of the CPD 016 tactical unit heard the flash either by ISPERN or it went out over your air as an all-call. They stopped the vehicle in 016 and got all of the offenders and I believe the murder weapon. We are grateful to Teddy O. and the other officers (who I don't recall their names, sorry)on your PD that made the pinch. I tried to call Ted who was last working at the Grand/Central range to let him know about this, but I got no answer down there today.

We would appreciate it if you could do a new post about this matter. I am sorry that it doesn't fit the Cozzi matter, but nonetheless it is still urgent.

Better still, read about the Ridges incident on the LEO Memorial webpage. It is a chilling story of how a policeman was conducting a surveilence on a house when he happened upon the offenders who were going to commit a contract murder and were prepared to kill everyone in the house. Killing Mike seemed to be child's play to them. Just savage!

--------------------
Please act now to keep these cop killers behind bars.

On Thursday, July 17, 2008, Ira Jackson [Inmate #N82059] may walk out of jail as a free man after serving only half of the 40 year sentence he received for the killing of Cook County Sheriff's Police Investigator Michael Ridges.

On Wednesday, August 27, 2008, Allen Falls [Inmate #N80634] may also walk out of jail as a free man after serving only half of the 40 year sentence he received for the killing of Cook County Sheriff's Police Investigator Michael Ridges.

On behalf of any family members, loved ones, and fellow police officers who want justice and fairness in the honor of Michael Ridges we are asking that concerned citizens call, write, or visit the parole board to ensure that these cop killers remain in prison for the duration of their terms.

The cases are currently in the hands of the Illinois Prisoner Review Board. They can be contacted at:

319 East Madison Street
Springfield, IL 62701
(217) 782-7273

The Illinois Compiled Statutes, Chapter 730 Section 5-5.5-30(a)(3), regarding the application of good conduct by the IPRB states that, "the relief to be granted is consistent with the public interest." Letting the murderers of police officers out of prison cannot possibly be within the public interest.

We thank you for any help or assistance that you may be able to provide in this matter.

Best regards,

Cook County Sheriff's Police FOP Lodge #4

I'm not SCC, but since he DID NOT BEAT A HANDICAPPED GUY ( he smacked around a belligerent drunk who was placed in a wheel chair by hospital staff, NOT wheelchair "bound" )it's a moot point.

It may not be 100% right, but it sure as shit is not worth the money a Federal trial will cost!

SCC, if this cop did beat a handicapped guy, do you think he should remain on the force?

First of all, he didn't beat a handicapped guy. He struck a prisoner who was handcuffed to a wheelchair. And if you've seen the video, it wasn't like he was winding up and throwing haymakers like Abbate.

You're obviously trying to frame your argument in the most slanted way possible like most liberals do so as to make the person defending the officer look like an extremist.

Here are the facts:

Cozzi did something wrong. He pled guilty in a court of law. He served a sentence of 18 months probation - well in excess of other Simple Battery convictions. He completed court ordered Anger Management courses. Cozzi was also determined to have violated Department Rules and Regulations. He served a two-year suspension from the Police Board. Then Superintendent Cline attempted to overturn the Police Board finding in the courts and lost.

So why shouldn't he be back on the force? Are police the only people on the planet incapable of remorse and rehabilitation?

Evidently, only to haters like you.

Well to the poster who said Cozzi is a goof ball, just keep in mind that there are many "soft" people or goofs, nerds, dorks, geeks, squids, etc on this job. Including you behind your keyboard.

You certainly must be management. If you were a P.O. you'd be rejoicing in his court victory. Because any time we win a battle involving a discipline issue it can set a precedent and help other officers in the future when they step on their dicks!

But I'm sure if you ever fuck up, you'll quietly go away and quit, right? Give up everything and go flip burgers because you think you have some kind of superior principles.

Lastly, Cozzi may be a strange bird. But he served his Country, not once but twice. He is a decorated Veteran. Can you say the same?

Whatever happened or not with Cozzi, the point of the issue is circumventing the discipline process that is in play. If someone steps on their pecker and pays the price, they shouldn't have to be put through the wringer again at a federal trial, or any other procedure.

Fuck them very much for this. They miscalculated this one big time. No cop with half a brain would put him/herself out there for a city that will treat them this way. You want to crack down on someone? Look in your own house first Shortshanks. You've got enough there to keep the feds more than busy you little prick.

Hey, are you feeling the pressure of the crime rate yet? Don't freak out too soon. It's gonna get bigger. Much bigger.

SCC, if this cop did beat a handicapped guy, do you think he should remain on the force?

It was former Clinton White House Counsel, staunch Obama supporter, and retired Federal Judge Abner J. Mikva that recommended Weis to Daley. But hey, don't let the truth get in the way of a good story. Typical CPD case report writing.

Clinton, Obama, Federal, Daley...all used in the same sentence, go the American way (NOT)!

Cozzi may have doe a lot of good things and done a lot of hard work

But what happened in the video is inexcusable

A federal crime maybe not. But he did NOTHING wrong? You guys are smoking your socks

A retiree who knows Bill

7/14/2008 11:53:00 PM

Again, the video does NOT show the 'beforehand' of what led up to the police being called, the idiot in the wheelchair was placed in there to control him, that is why he was handcuffed, & Cozzi shackled his feet...also, Cozzi has admitted to his over-reaction, and paid for his mistake.

Have we already forgotton that it was a mental who in seconds killed Officer Francis...

I know that guy, but refused 2 work with him. A strange guy and did u ever c that bag he carried around with leg irons and fogger? WOW!

Problem is he wants 2 b the police so bad- I would've moved on. Don't take this 2 serious, it's just a job not a calling. Not with CRs and lawsuits. You can beat the criminal case, but administratively they can fuck with you.

Be smart, stay safe and God bless all of you. Good luck to officer Cozzi.

The Lord made fire, water, grains, metals and the mind of man.

The mind of man thought to use the fire, water, and grains to make booze.

And on the last day, the Lord sent SCC an email carved in stone, which read "Let 7/14/2008 11:16:00 PM quote from Holy Scripture ad nauseam so he can humbly demonstrate his intellectual superiority," and this was too done.

Amen.

I love the continued spin on the subject: shackled 60 year old prisoner in a wheelchair... nice. Shame they dont say he was a beligerant violent drunk that was in the wheelchair only because he was trying to fuck with the nurses at the hospital as they were trying to treat him. And BEAT? We all saw the video... it was barely a slap.

------------------

AGAIN.. to reiterate... the guy that was slapped (not beaten) was NOT HANDICAPPED. He was in a wheelchair because he was fighting the nurses that were trying to treat him and he was a beligerant (at best) drunk. Stop getting your news spoon-fed to you by the liberal scewed media.

If this was 1955, you'd be able to turn firehoses on and beat Black people for trying to eat at the "White" lunch counter. It ISN'T.
