It's the Media's Fault?
Well, it's good to know we have someone to blame:
Mayor Daley on Wednesday blamed his favorite whipping post — the news media — for making some Chicago police officers overly timid and less aggressive about fighting crime because they’re afraid of piling up citizen complaints.
One day after Police Supt. Jody Weis acknowledged the contradictory trends of rising crime and laid back officers, Daley wholeheartedly agreed and said he has no idea how to reverse it.
At least we know it has nothing to do with crappy equipment, inconsistent discipline, unqualified bosses, ridiculous "merit" appointees, politicians riding on our backs and lord knows what else.

the news media should take a close look at the fop website under contract updates...look at our present contract and what the city is offering.
tma's are presently being trained because they are hourly under private contract...who holds those contracts for tmas, fleet management, city maintenance, meter maids, etc...all hourly, the wave of the chicago future where very few will be enriched at the expense of the masses.
There is only one person to blame for the citys problems. Da Mayo stood on a step stool and looked into his bathroom mirror and saw the monster at large!!!!!!!

Talked to a desk Sgt. who said if it weren't for tact and gangs, there would be hardly any arrests in area 5. And even the tact/gangs aren't pulling the same numbers they used to. I'm on tact myself and I wouldn't say I've been hittin it out of the park lately, if you know what I mean. Just enough to keep th eyes off me and keep me off midnights.
Stay safe out there and keep up the "good" work bruthas & sistas.

The Media does go to far with airing bogus news/press conferences when lawyers sue the city and lie for their clients to get sympathy and to embarrass the city and police dept for the five, nine and ten o'clock shows.
The Media does go to far when they interview & air non-witnesses to actual crimes and incidents. These non-witnesses only further exert their biases on air but have nothing factual to contribute to a court hearing that determines the outcome of a criminal or civil case.
The Media sometimes allows too much sensationalizing and personal view points of it editors, writers and reports to be broad casted that viewer ship could care less about their opinions.
The Media should not make the news controversial. Just report the facts!
The list goes on...but why waste my time.
Does anyone find this as funny as i do? I guess the cops sticking together worked! They're all blaming each other now. The mayor has nothing to do with it (1.1%), JFed has nothing to do with it (Cozzi), the REVrunds have nothing to do with it (marches) and the shitty council has nothing to do with it (payouts.)
Keep policing the way they wanted us to. It's just beginning. The summer just got started assholes.

Wow....time after time Daley ceases to amaze me with the bullshit he comes up with.
While all this bashing by the media of the seemingly bad police was going on when did Daley ever call a news conference, take the podium and point out to the media, the citizens and the rank and file of the CPD that while there are some bad apples in the CPD, his administration has the back of the "REAL POLICE" 100 percent and that the media should be fair and balanced and not just report on the few sensationalistic police altercations keep the powder dry and wait for the facts to be investigated.
When has the mayor said to the media, "There are two sides to every story and then there is the truth. Its my responsibility and that of the media to see to it law and order is maintained.
Nothing close to this ever happened. If it had what Daley just said to the media would really mean something.
Daley never backed you guys pointing out the responsibility of the community and media. He never once, that I can recall, came out and backed you guys.
But, now, now that his "Jacksons", his nuts are in a vise now he's all gung ho CPD!

I hate to agree with Donahue but he is right. Cozzi is the reason I have quit being proactive. The media is the media. They are scum. The alderfucks are useless pols who just try and protect their do nothing jobs.

Yea the Media will do everything in its power to see Cozzi Fired..
But report City hall corruption and leave it alone.
The Media purportes to be guardians against corruption and use it as a reason to get all kinds of journalistic priveleges...
Why arent they harboring on the city and DEMANDING that the Feds look into City hall and especailly Aldermanic corruption.
They should be DEMANDING that the alderman be reduced in size to that of say a larger city like LA.
Unlike the previous blogger...give me a fair contract(what I consider fair not the Mayor) more manpower and better equipment I would in a heartbeat go and do my job and make a difference(I loved my job) but its hard to put your life on the line when you know that the mayor dont give a rats ass.

Finally donohue makes a comment a divine event, but I agree j-fed quit the bullshit with Cozzi now, you lost be a man and put Bill back on the streets he is a good copper someone that would have our backs unlike you and your joke of a command staff!
Dig this Joe, I aint less aggressive and overly timid about fighting crime because of the media. It is because I have common sense and too much time invested in this career to blow it now. It is very easy to end up like Cozzi. My advice to you young people is, do what you have to do, no more and no less. Avoid getting involved in any Policing off duty unless it is absolutely necessary. Avoid idiots on and off the job. Finally, stay thirsty my friends.
There is only ONE problem, a City that does not know how to take care of the people who are stuck doing all the dirty and dangerous work, its Police Officers.. Ungrateful Liberal DemocRAT criminals. Criminals anywhere will never take care of the Police. Especially here in SHIT-cago. If Patrick Fitzgerald/ U.S. Attorneys can't help us, nobody on earth can.

Chuck Ramsey was in the final three for sup't here many moons ago. He had a lot of proactive ideas, many about community policing, which didn't sit well with the mayor during his final interview. Mayor was scared of all the change Ramsey wanted to make, so Terry Hillard was chosen, instead. Eventually, most of the changes Ramsey had suggested were implemented, anyway, first under Hillard and then under Cline.

The total inabilty of a police Dept. to reward an officer for a job well done. ie(Honorable Mention, or better) for a outstanding arrest.
The ability of a Police Dept. to cancel requested time off at no notice because they are incapable of hiring new police officers to keep up the ranks!

**It will NEVER be what it used to be. The damage has been happening for years and it finally came to a head. They cannot repair the damage that has been done to this department. Ride out your time safely.
J-Fed, Daley and aldernuts are running around like ninnies over the slowdown. What if we go even slower? I miss Daley spluttering all over the microphone, not even over Blago/ISP. What's up with that? Is he on Valium? Taking meditation classes? Imagine the really BIG circus if the crime stats go even higher. They'll be having seizures!
