State Sen. James Meeks offered Monday to drop a three-day school boycott if top Illinois Democrats -- Gov. Blagojevich, Senate President Emil Jones and House Speaker Michael Madigan -- agree to publicly back a new $120 million, three-year plan to reform the state's most seriously ailing schools.
Meeks, pastor of Salem Baptist Church, said he is flying to Denver today to meet Madigan and Jones at the Democratic convention, where he hopes Blagojevich also will join the discussions.
In 2006, Meeks dropped a threat to run for governor in exchange for assurances that Blagojevich would find more money for education. The governor's funding plan never made it out of the gate.
Seems he's dropped his blackmail threat from $4 billion to a mere $120 million.
If Blago holds out a little bit longer, Meeks will be paying HIM not to boycott and the budget crisis will be solved! Hooray, that sawed-off runt is brilliant!

Superintendent was asked the criteria for merit. He said he is overhauling the program. It is perceived to be negative. Anyone eligible will be able to nominate themselves. The criteria will be challenging and rigorous. Exempts will not nominate anyone and no recommendation will be needed. He said this process will be available for the next Lieutenant's promotion. He said he wanted to use the new program for the Sergeant's promotions but did not have time, he wanted the Sergeants on the street for summer. He said he received 29 nominees for Sergeant and he selected 22. When asked why the majority were from specialized units, he responded that is what the Deputies submitted to him. He said in the service meritorious promotion is held in a higher esteem than an earned promotion. He said he would like anyone receiving a meritorious promotion would be someone he would go through a door with. HMMMMMMM!

He said if an Officer wants to get drunk but is not committing a crime, it should not be punitive. He said he does not want Officers stripped for this rule. He said the rule was here when he became Superintendent and he did not issue any order for the enforcement of this rule. I have Meeks on tape in an interview with Mike Flannery on Channel 2 news saying that there is nothing wrong with using the word "nigger" and that the only people who should be offended by it are those who it applies to. This interview came a few summers ago after he had one of his hate-for-the-white-man-filled sermons at his "church". In this sermon he stated that we no longer have slavemasters, now we have mayors. Academic success, or lack of it, is absolutely NOT about money spent.
As an example let's look at two schools: North Side College Prep (NSCP), versus Steinmetz.
* NSCP's Attendance rate is 96.4%, Steinmetz is 83.4%
* Average teacher salary at both schools was the same; $63,509 per teacher and money spent per student of $5,858
* Low income students at NSCP make up 31.1%, at Steinmetz it's 83%
* Black and Latino students, combined, make up 28.2% at NSCP, at Steinmetz they make up 84%.
* Average ACT score: NSCP is 27.8 - at Steinmetz it is 16.5
* The ratio of money spent per student and ACT score (ACT vs. $) at NSCP is +8.73, at Steinmetz it is -2.56
It is unacceptable that these ignorant fools, like Meeks and Obama, get away with trying to fleece us even more with the calls for "help the children." What utter bullshit. "The Children" who don't want to learn, whose parents don't care, and whose heroes are "Fitee-scent" and Ludacris are the ones who don't deserve more money thrown at them.

What a lot of people don't understand is that they CALL themselves Reverend but...it's more of a "nickname" than a title. Late 90's Jackson was given an HONORARY degree from the divinity school he never graduated from. Someone started calling Sharpton a reverend and he began using it. It's all a con game to make the money and corporations fall for it.
