Two teens were shot while leaving the South Side’s Bud Billiken Parade Saturday evening in what detectives say was a gang-related shooting.
The shooting happened at 350 E. 61st St. about 4:25 p.m., according to Calumet Area detectives.
But count on the refrain being, "At least no one died!"

The fucked up thing is: Even the City is getting in on this train of thought! Commissioner Orozco from the CFD just last week stated “The Marathon is NOT A CITY SPONSORED EVENT” in response to questions about if the City is ready for a large event (i.e. Olympics, Terrorist incident).
Don’t get me wrong, I feel sorry for the Guy that died, and the ones that fell out because of heat exhaustion, however, some of these bosses really need to get their collective heads out of Daley’s ass!
OTOH, the 200 domestics I will be dispatched to tomorrow, since they too aren’t “City sponsored events” , do I have to go?

Spoken like a typical candidate for office: make lots of promises and fail to outline exactly how you're going to do it once you get there, hoping/expecting that we are a bunch of sheeple who will just vote you in.
Don't forget, Wayne: of all the members of FOP, didn't fewer than half bother to vote in the last election? And if memory serves, most of those were retired. Our membership consists of some lazy people who couldn't care less about being involved with the union (in case you haven't noticed, it's the same people over and over who go to meetings every month) and who can't be bothered to vote, even though it's by mail and they don't have to leave their homes to do so.
I'm not a big fan of the current FOP administration, but they WERE a change from the former administration, which was mired in so much filth it would take 10 power washers to even begin to make a dent in the cleaning. In a lot of cases it's better the devil you know.

The crowd that shot the two were AT the parade and were broken up about 1/2 dozen times before shots ran out at 61st..so there was a gun (a lot of guns) at the parade....and by the way.. thanks to the 003rd district cops who NEVER responded (not one car from 003) and the W/C from 003 who REFUSED to send cars when asked....it took an exempt to have 003 respond to a shooting in THEIR OWN DISTRICT!

I live in Beverly, and I for one am ashamed that many of my neighbors' grown or late teen children, offspring of public officials, act no differently under the influence of alcohol or other drugs than what I see on the streets of 010 every night. True, no one gets shot, but every other distasteful thing you can imagine occurs at SS Irish parade...Last year caught two teens screwing on my basement stairs, and they weren't black or latino. The girl's father is a boss on the CFD.
