An Interesting Story

We had never heard this before:
  • Off topic...

If any of you go see the new Batman movie, Dark Knight, be aware that the character actor in it, Ron Dean, who plays a cop and who has made a career playing cops, shot and killed a Chicago Police Officer when he was 15 or 16.

He killed a police officer in the old station on Shakespeare Ave, the 32nd District Station at the time. I believe this occurred in July, 1955. The officer was shot with a gun taken from a drawer in the lockup.

He was a juvenile and they had no laws providing for charging juveniles as adults at the time. I find it very ironic that he has made a career of playing cops in the movies, he played opposite reallife CPD Sgt Joe K. in The Fugitive as one of the CPD Detectives who captured Harrison Ford.

I found an article years ago describing the murder and Ron Dean's part in it but Dean said he didn't want to talk about it. I don't doubt that.

Since then I do not knowingly go see any movie with Ron Dean in it. I couldn't find any reference to this today but it is true, it actually happened. The Officer Down web site does not list the name of the Officer's killer, no doubt because offender Dean was a juvenile.

Remember this if you spend money to go see the movie.
We'd imagine that a minor actor like Dean appears to be gets a flat fee for his work, not a percentage of the gross like big names do. Still, some sins are pretty much unforgivable. We are now conflicted.

Ron Dean is a horse-s*it Actor anyway. Just a fill-in mope. Good to know the truth about this P.O.S. CPD Officers, please treat this fat P.O.S. accordingly when he's in town for any reason. He's NO Celebrity, Not even Close; he's a low-life Vermin Chicago Cop-Killer. Thanks SSC for letting us all know.

I had no idea.

I just referenced the book that came out last year, "End of Watch", and sure enough it names Dean as his killer.

It stated at the end of the summary that Dean pled guilty on December 13 of that year and received a sentence of life in prison by Judge James R. Bryant.

I guess there wasn't much truth in sentencing back then, either.

RIP

I’d like to think that this can’t be true about Ron Dean. 1955 was a long time ago when we never tried juveniles as adults.

I checked on the Internet Movie Database and he is in every film directed by Chicago Native Andy Davis. Dean has lots of credits and has made a very decent living as an actor. Of course I rather see myself cast in those roles.

It’s an ultimate insult for a Chicago cop killer to play a Chicago cop in a major motion picture like The Fugitive.

Perhaps this guy turned his life around like most criminals never do. I just can’t imagine trying to put a mad act like killing a cop behind them Dean will did with the Mark of Cain.

I couldn't place the guy until I found this photo of Ron Dean.

The VAGRANT... A motion picture that packs a punch with an emphasis on realism and authenticity. It tracks the footsteps of a serial killer over a period of years on the streets of Chicago. The cops know a little about the VAGRANT... but the VAGRANT knows a lot about the cops! See who wins in the end with the clock ticking as more victims fall prey to the VAGRANT.

Why don't Jesse and Mary Mitchell try to straighten the ghettoans out so they stop embarrassing by themselves buy their violent actions in our City?

Whether any of us like it or not this guy didn't spend his life in jail or get the death penalty. He will answer for his life in the next life.......if there is one. I hope for a kind and forgiving God. Dean better hope for it more than I do.

I wish him well. That is some guilt I wouldn't want to carry for 50+ years.

A friend of mine from high school got drunk and killed an elderly couple while driving when he was 19. Spent a few years downstate as a guest of the state. Never drank again. I never saw him laugh hard again.

He died of cancer at around age 39 and I'm convinced he rejected treatment because he was sick of living with the guilt.

If Dean has any decency that will eat at him for whatever time he has left.

it is true crimefile. Look to post of 8/08/2008 05:13:00 PM or look it up in the Tribune archive or end of watch website. Ron Dean killed a police officer, he never tried to deny it, he just won't talk about it. He was 16 in 1955, he is 67 or 68 now. Officer Brown has been dead since 1955 and never got the chance to see his kids grow up, get married etc. Not enough has ever been made of this, a cop killer makes a career of playing police officers. Sure he turned his life around, the officer is still dead, in my opinion, Ron Dean should still be in prison instead of living the good life of hollywood.

Sure there are liberal pukes out there who support reprehensible causes, Mumia etc, but very damn few of them actually pulled a trigger and murdered a police officer and then had the nerve to make a career of playing police officers in film.

Ron Dean is such a person.

Fuck him, I wonder if he contributes to the CPD memorial or if he ever helped out the family of Ofc Brown after he had a bit of success in the movies or if he ever publicly offered a sincere apology for the horrible thing he did when he was 16.

If Ron Dean drove a garbage truck for a living it's likely he could live his life in anonymity but he has chosen a public life and still uses his real name.

I sure would like to see what he has to say when some reporter sticks a microphone in his face and asks about this.

It's is amazing to me that this guy, for many years now, has made a very comfortable living prancing around on the big screen pretending to be a police officer (many times a Chicago Police Officer) after gunning, down in cold blood, a Chicago Police Officer. Now, what is even more amazing, is that after years of watching these movies I find out only now about this fact on this blog. Thanks SCC for bringing this dark Chicago secret to our attention. How did his life sentence became only 12 years. Is the family of the slain Officer aware of this. It would be great if John Kass could contact the family of the Officer and see if they are aware of this dirty little Chicago secret. It sickens me to no end to find out that this piece of shit has been prancing around for the last two decades pretending to be a police officer and profiting from it.

SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!!!!!!

Fuck Farina, Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, and anyone else who has this P.O.S. in any movies made in Chicago. And that goofy-lookin retired CPD Sgt. Joe somethin, he can't really help it, he's just a goof - lookin Milwaukee Ave. Polock who ended up on CPD, and probably thinks he's cool cause he stuttered and Mumbled his way thru a few lines in the Fugitive and Code of Silence. Silly prick...

this makes me sick to my stomach. Send emails, letters, anything!!!!!!!!!!! To whomever will listen. He is a cop killer, pure and simple. He does not belong walking free, nevermind wearing the uniform and pretending to be a Chicago Police Officer on film. Go to hell Dean.

Not a Cop.

From the articles at the time, this guy, as a minor, went out of his way to kill a man and an Officer to stay out of reform school.

His actions were deliberate and pre-meditated. It is not normal for a person to be wired such that they are capable of taking anothers life at any age save for self defense or military or law enforcement service.

He should still be in Jail.

The least the fuck should do is every day of his life acknowledge he's been given a life in spite of his taking one

I guess that's not too surprising though. He's obviously a murderer and coward.

Looks like he is again portraying Chicago law enforcement in 'The Beast', with Patrick Swayeze.
