i work in 003 and was sent over to 006 to answer calls. that district is an absolute mess, 004 too. you guys need help. they're hanging out 10-15 deep on each street. nobody is policed over there. if you try to do any policing, you have no back up. answering calls 3-6 hours old. everything was a 1b, 5b, 19b etc. dispatch, "this has about 10 hrs on it." on top of that you have 99 units. i thought 003 was a shithole - i'm fucking happy i'm there and not 004 or 006.
i know i'll get the morons on here saying, "why you trying to do police work?" that isn't the point - the point is there are no police there. both districts are too big and understaffed. they aren't even 5 beats a sector like 007, 008 or 025.
well, 004 and 006. don't ever hesitate to call for some cars from 003. we have raps - but nothing like you guys. at least you guys have better dispatchers on midnights than us.

According to an un-named Sergeant, officers assigned to Biliken will not be carrying radios. They will remain close to their assigned Sergeant who will have a radio. The Sergeants have been instructed to NOT call 10-1's and to only call for how many officers they think they will need. Is this true, can we get some confirmation?

That was the craziest thing I have ever heard on the Zone, and as anyone who works in 004/006 knows it can get a little wild! Sounds like a great job by the 006th district officers as well as SWAT. That offender must have fired over 100 rounds! Does anyone know what kind of weapon he was using? I heard someone on the radio say it was an automatic rifle, any truth to this? If so, I would say it's about time we start getting those AR-15's in the squad cars! Did the SWAT sniper get the guy or did the entry team take him out?

OT: I was working the night of the big storm. I happened to be on a call next to a firehouse when they set off the tornado alarm. I'm loading an offender into the wagon as the wind is picking up and rain is starting to come down in sheets. I was amazed as several yuppie types came up to me and asked why the CFD was sounding their sirens. They were actually complaining about the noise and asking how long they intended to sound the alarm. I looked at them, shocked, and told them that it is a tornado warning. They just rolled their eyes and walked away, still upset about all the racket. Only in Chicago. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Everybody did a good job last night under shitty circumstances. We all went home safe. SWAT, Tac, and beat guys and gals did well. And for the guy worried about "raps" when police are bunkered down.....GO F YOURSELF

Myself and my partner were one of the outside district cars that were called to the scene to help out. We were there when the shots rang out in which the offender was smoked. Great job by the first responders from what I heard, and also for SWAT
Now I'm one of those that doesn't knowtoo much about some of the brass we have leading us. I do have over five years on this job, but grew up just outside of the city. But that Commander of 006seems like a decent guy. He was going all over the scene after things had calmed down seeing if everyone wasw ok. He also was on the radio giving out relevant info during the incident. And at the area he was again very concerned forthe well being of everyone there. Like I said, I don't know too much about this guy, but from what I saw in the few hours I was around him, I'd say he's ok in my book

Great job by the 006th District tactical officers, responding area units and the SWAT Team. The A/2 Detectives were great especially the Agg. Batt. guys who were with us in the thick of things, its nice to know some detectives aren't to far removed from the streets.

The copper shot in the vest was Sgt AK, yes the same one that some retard was commenting on awhile back, anonymously saying he was all talk but never responded when called out for his/her comments.
The district personnel did a great job with the chase and then closing off a perimeter to contain this wanna-be police killer. District did a great job assisting SWAT when they showed up as well. The stack that went in for the bad guy included two Sgts. Yes, TWO Sgts that quite obviously lead by example.
Bad guy dead and PO's going home to their families and THAT my friends is what its all about.
Now can we please stop talking shit about units or district personnel? For the love of Christ, even the guys in the helicopter had rounds heading in their direction!

I am not a tax expert, that is the reason i pay someone to do mine. It's a 22 page filing. Tax return seems to state that in 2006 that 21,000. was disbursed to PO's or families. If someone know better can they please check it out and let us know. I just filled out my form to quit contributing. I feel like a sucker. I was donating 5$ per pay check the last 2 yrs. 008 is insane too, why anyone wants to work there is beyond me! Damn! The one thing i will say about 008th dist guys is they have many who show up and back u up. unfortunately 99.9% of the time they are in a backlog and that includes jan and feb too so its not always easy to get help when EVERY car in the district is on a job! Still overall they do well for what they have and what they deal with. I have seen less backup in districts where the coppers get 2-3 jobs a night and feel busy. Thats a shame, because these nuts are everywhere and u can be in any district and run into shit. Stay safe and back each other up!

I was working special enjoyment the other day at the Addison Red Line stop for a cubs game and a mother and her child fought the large crowd to get to me. The mother stated that her child wanted to thank every Chicago Police Officer he saw because some jagbag took his bike from their yard and the officer got it back for him. This kid was about 8 years old and gave the most genuine thank you I have ever got on this job.
There are people that still care about us. Remember that.

No one looks at the HBT event numbers. Only the outdoor roll call and seat belt mission numbers are asked about at any exempt meeting. 6XX was doing exactly what the upper echelon wanted. Now 6XX can say with a clear conscience that he tried to do his job.

Brings us to a total of 27 Aldermen found guilty of crimes since 1972. It'd probably be 28 if another hadn't died before trial.
So with 27 convicted since 1972, they get convicted at a rate of 0.75/year, or 3 in any 4 year span.
Not sure how many aldermen there've been in that span, given some long standing aldermen, I wouldn't be surprised if the total conviction rate per alderman was even higher.

I listened to the events as they unfolded last night. A tip of the hat should go to the male dispatcher to took over when they switched to CW6. I'm guessing that he must have a police background before going to OEMC. He had his shit together, he knew what he was doing and most importantly he spoke English (not ebonics) and was easy to understand. There's nothing worse than trying to figure out what the hell the dispatcher is trying to say when you have to depend on one for help to possibly save your life.
Whoever you are Mr Dispatcher, thank you for doing your job well. It is appreciated.

A regular trend here is that SWAT takes forever to arrive to a scene. As nearly the entire SWAT team was tied up with the Barricade ex-COP, most were cleaning up and going home to a well deserved rest. SWAT officers are not provided with cars and that's one reason I left or was pushed out of SWAT. (Who am I). This city has a first rate SWAT team and responds as fast as they can in personal vehicles, which have to obey speed limits, stop at traffic control devices, (the red light cam tickets wont get paid for), get stuck in traffic during the approach to a hot spot like 79th and Ashland, and since all the rifles are kept on one truck, all the SWAT officers need to wait for the slow truck to get there also.
Other major cities allow their SWAT officers to use a department vehicle, keep their issued or personal rifle with them, and they get a much faster response time.
When will Chicago join the 1980's ?
This SWAT team is legit ladies and gents, call them for anything you cant handle.

I have been around a little while, the old 6th District used to have 17 beats there was no 22nd District, then they opened the 022 District on Monterey. The new 6th District, went from 76th st to 95th St. later 75th to 95th. roughly Greenwood to Hamilton. I worked there for a short time when it took in Mt Greenwood and beverly and several years later when it was realigned to open 022. It has always been shorthanded, and a shit hole in my career, sometimes you would go to late roll call on the Mids and there would be 4 Officers and maybe a Sgt. that was after realignment.The District is known for Violent Mental Disturbances and shooting at the Police. In these 30 plus years this District has been neglected by the Department as far as manpower and resources. My partner and I were stupid, we stayed there 7 years, before we realized that no matter how many offenders we put in jail nothing would change. Sorry about the long post but I just wanted you to know 006 has always had some of the most VIOLENT offenders in the city (RIP Line of Duty P/O's and a Sgt, Crowley, Eckles,Harris,Doyle, Fahey O'Brien, Harden all killed in 006 while I was assigned there, not counting how many P/O's wounded, and the Department has never taken care of the Man-Power shortage there. The fighting 6th will never be fully manned but the Officers assigned there can hold their heads up and say I work in the fighting 6th after this incident, you ALL handled youselves heroically, and should be proud, and I am proud to still be CPD and formerly 006.

A huge Congrats is in order to a job well done all the way around. I was on the scene from beginning to end. The 006th district guys and SWAT did an absolutely excellent job containing and eliminating an active shooter who was hell bent on killing the police.
Even though two officers were shot all went home to their families and that is most important.
Great job by outside units in their quick response and assisting with the situation.
Also a great job done by the Area Two dicks that responded to the scene and handled the investigation/round table.

006 is a horrible place to work. God less the heroes who work in such a dump! Left there myself a few years back...nothing but solid coppers there. They work in the worst conditions, because they truly enjoy being miserable.
