What's the problem? They've committed crimes here, they get caught, they get deported. Seems pretty straightforward and the logical conclusion to events of the day. And yet...
- Hispanic activists are accusing Chicago police of turning over suspected illegal immigrants to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency despite city and county bans on such activity.
Community activst Jorge Mujica told a Chicago City Council committee that in one case, a working man who was picked up for driving without a license has been jailed for five months. The man's wife, who spoke through a translator, said Tuesday that has left her and her two sons on their own.
Alderman Daniel Solis, who called for the hearing, suggested county jail guards or assistant state's attorneys might be turning in the immigrants. A spokesman for the sheriff's department said guards aren't allowed to assist ICE in going after immigrants.

It's amazing county and city officials telling police not to enforce criminal activity. Isn't being an illegal alien a crime? Oh I forgot federal laws only apply to DC and policeman.
Could someone explain the big scam when the Mexican consulate tells people to go to 012 to report a lost ID? There are alot of people in 012 reporting lost id's everyday.

Don't take lost ID reports unless they show up with a certified letter from the Consulate. Better yet, tell them just to make the reprot to the Consulate.

Consulate is making lots of money on those id's. Its not a real id like state id or DL. It looks like a legitimate id but it is not. I've stopped gangbangers with them with different d.o.b. or addresses than their i-clear info. the mex consulate is making millions.
In TARA training they encouraged officers to contact ICE. Imagine stopping a muslim extremist who overstayed his visa and then letting him go beacause it violates a city ordinance

Tomorrow my son Michael Gordon will be dead 4 years because of an illegal. The illegal, Luis Calles - I doubt that was his real name - decided to drive drunk and hit a squad car at 60 MPH killing my son and seriously injuring his partner. This Luis Calles was able to purchase two automobiles in the three years he was here from Ecuador, no license & no insurance.
Where is the justice for my son who was a MP in the Army for 5 years going to Bosnia & the DMZ, went Airborne but has to die in the streets of 011 by someone who was was not a citizen and was supposed to be deported the year before.
When I had to tell Mike's 2 sons (5& 7 at the the time)that their father had been killed the youngest said to me, "But he only went to work" - meaning how could he die just doing his job.
Mike loved his job as I'm sure most of you do but you want your city to stand behind you, something I've seen very little of lately.

I would never suggest a sworn officer of the law should break the supreme law of Chicago, but if one were to do so, leaving a trail is not the brightest move. And personal cell phones leave very easy trails to follow.

Since when does the sheriffs dept. or asa's have any contact with someone over a trffic ticket as to tip off ICE. Is danny solis that stupid? Show me the general order that says I cannot inform ICE of a suspected ILLEGAL ALIEN on my own time, let's say after work on my way home.

I arrest someone for committing a crime and I am processing them in the station. I run a name check and it pops this subject is an overstay and it clearly states that ice should me notified. I am allowed and lawfully required to notify ice. I document the notification, inform the watch commander, put the subject in the lock up, and it's up to ice to decide whether or not they want to come and detain him. My investigation is over.
On the flip side. If the subject is name check clear and I simply suspect he is in the country unlawfully, I have no right to question his status and I won't.
Even if the subject just likes to babble and tells me that he is an illegal without me asking, I will disregard that outburst statement completely, and I will not notify ice under any circumstances.
That is my understanding of what the ordinance and department orders have always read.
I took all of this alderman and supt hysteria to mean that they were conducting an investigation into cases where they suspected officers notified ice without any of the circumstances outlined in my first paragraph.
I'm just trying to get a clear understanding. Does what I'm saying sound accurate? Thanks for your input.

Have our lawyers go to the U.S. Attorney and get a letter stating if federal guidelines for ICE investigations are followed, that any action against an officer would be investigated.
The next step would be to get a federal injunction on the same matter.
If Shortshanks and J-Fed violate the injunction, sue for big bucks.

We should adopt Waukegan's view point and train some of our officers to be trained in immigration enforcement. It's sick how easily people forget 9-11. One of the major issues cited in the tragedy was a lack of control over the nations borders. It's sickening that the men and women who work for the border patrol are putting their lives on the line for nothing. At some point illegals are going to get in. As law enforcement we should be able to support the border patrol and be able to enforce immigration laws where ever we patrol. This is a big slap in the face to the border patrol and law enforcement. "ILLEGAL" immigrants have more rights than a copper who tries to do the right thing but gets monday night quarterbacked by every one and their mother. Basically the alderman is condoning the violation of a federal law. For that fact the city is condoning the violation of a federal law. How in the hell can a city ordinance supercede a federal law. How can any city be allowed to pass a ordinance that violates a federal law. Police officers should not be punished for up holding the laws especially immigration laws. The scruitny should not be on them. It should be on the mayor and the alderman that condone the violation of a federal law. But par for the course in this city lets blame the police.
