Mette Hearing Date

In case you've been living under a rock:
  • This notice is intended to inform Department members that a hearing for Mike Mette will be held on 11 September 2008 at 1030 hours at the Iowa Court of Appeals. This hearing is open to the public, however, seating is limited and will be on a first come, first serve basis. A representative of the Department will be attending on behalf of the Superintendent.

The Mette family has noted that the support of Department members would be greatly appreciated.

The Iowa Court of Appeals is located at 111 East Court Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50319.

In response to requests from various members of the Department, attached, please find copies of the letter that the Superintendent sent to Governor Chet Culver of Iowa, the Iowa Parole Board and the Dubuque County Attorney.
Of course, we wouldn't put it past Iowa authorities to change a whole bunch of stuff at the last minute, but in the meantime, anyone putting together a bus trip?

What airlines fly non-stop from Chicago (MDW or ORD) to DesMoines in time to take a taxi to court?

How much for a coach seat?

Is there a night train where we can rest our eyes?

Exactly my question. Is the defense fund getting some busses? I will burn the day and go.

If the FOP can arrange buses . . we really don't need to stay overnight. Just pull right into the "hic-town" with our uniforms on and pack the courtroom.

Please, Please if you decide to go to Des Moines, conduct yourself with utmost decorum. Do not give those people and the media there what they think we are all like--loud, obnoxious, etc.

Wouldn't it be cheaper and less time consuming to just charter a flight over those cornfields?

If there is a bus, and that's a big IF, let it take everyone back to the Illinois/Iowa border to hotels in Rock Island. Don't spend one damned dime in that state. Bring your own beverages, lunches, etc. Let Iowa know the economic consequences of fucking with one of our own. And if it's not too much of a hardship on most of you driving your own vehicles, fill up your tanks before you leave Illinois and cross into Iowa.

I'm also putting in a call to FOP for buses, but everyone is in a board meeting now. Let's see if anyone calls back, and what they have to say.

Although the intent is pure the means sucked. Posting the hearing information on the Department's email system by the Sergeant Commanding Officer of the Superintendent's Office is pure bullshit. Just an attempt to have us feel "the man" is in our corner. J-Fed and Sgt. BB not matter what you do, or claim to do about Mette, will never erase the stench of what you pulled on Cozzi. Live with it. You are not one of us, you will never be one of us, your FBI shills will never be one of us, your Chief of Staff will never be one of us, we are pure you and your ilk are tainted.

Why doesn't Jody put on his uniform and appear in person rather than sending a representative. If he wants to improve morale and gain the respect of his men, this is his chance. He can't be that busy that he can't travel to Iowa and spend one day.

FYI the letter from the Superintendent is real. The Mayor also wrote a letter. A copper and wronged and they are trying to assist with making it right. I agree Cozzi was wronged also. Don't down Sgt BB for doing his job. He is the real police and has always been one. You must not know him to ever think or say anything bad about him. If you ever worked with him you would know. You should only talk about what you are sure about. The Sgt is true to this department and has always been.
