Oh God Please No

Another fucking scandal?
  • THE NEXT BIG CPD SCANDAL:

Word is that I.A.D. has subpoena credit card records of police officers in an investigation stemming from the use of On Line Sport Gambling Book sites. Use of such Internet sites to gamble is illegal.

An officer's spouse who is now in divorce litigation and who also lost her home due to his On Line Gambling habits obtained a C.R. number against her estranged spouse for illegal gambling and has also named a minimum of 8 of his co-officers who were involved.

The source who related this said that the investigation has become much larger than the originally named officers.

The use of interstate wires or communication for gambling is illegal and the officers involved will face separation from the department.

Supt. Jody Weis working with the FBI (Go figure that) is seeking that the officers involved be charge federally so the stripping and subsquently firing of these officers are "out of his hands".
Someone please tell us this is a bad dream. Small comfort if it's all for off-duty bullshit - it's still going to be spun by the mayor, J-Fed and the media into another black eye.

And let me guess that there is a secret grand jury meeting in Milwaukee on this. Some stroke job pissed at somebody posted this crap. The only problem now is that it gives J-Fed and IAD something to look at. Here is a hint for the youngsters on this job. Never do anything that isn't kosher that can be traced back to you. Cell phones, computers, credit cards, checks, bank transfers all can be traced back for YEARS. You want to bet on a stupid sport game, bet with your buddy or your barber who is also a bookie. Cash only. Verbal bets only. The most they can do to you for a cash bet is a misdemeanor gambling charge. The person taking the bets can end up with a syndicated felony gambling beef. Betting interstate is a federal offense as well as an IRS beef.

My guess is there is even more to come, as it seems there is a lot more rot in CPD than is generally acknowledged.

Those of you who are not part of the rot should probably just sit back and ride through it. On the other side, everyone will be better off after thr rot is excised, but it will be a bumpy ride for all.

Do you think you're a coward? Anyone who would take the identity of another for the sole purpose of destroying or humiliating the other person is a coward. Maybe you don't feel you're a coward. Ok, who are you? What's your beef with Tommie? And why is it that you won't confront him face to face.
For everyone else. I've known Tommie for many years. He did NOT write that stuff about the DNA testing....it was the COWARD who wrote that. I've had many many conversations with Tommie on a variety of topics. Sure Tommie's reasoning and outlook on life is totally FUCKED UP, at least from my perspective, but he is a good man and a stand up guy who has the courage of his convictions. He is also a gentleman
Unlike the stuff written as Lt Ritchie Scotchbreath , which everyone knows is written as a farce, the coward who wrote this stuff about Tommie is actually being mean spirited and vicious by trying to pass himself off as actually being Tommie. Give Tommie a break, he'd never hurt another copper. Unlike the coward I'll sign my name

It is obvious that you all have different opinions as to what is going on, who will or won't get charged, and will they get fired or suspended.

The only things you need to know that is certain are these:

1. J-Fraud's only mandate since taking over the superintendants position is to thin the herd. That means that no matter what he states in public, he will use whatever means possible to fire as many police officers as possible.

2. No matter how many exempt ranks are found to be gambling online, they are all connected so they will either resign peacefully or their names will never be publicized so they can keep their spot.

3. It doesn't matter if any of the aldercreatures use online gambling. Thios whole thing is to snare more coppers only. Hell, if they wanted to go after aldercreatures, they are so dirty they could get them on anything.

Those are the three basic truths about everything. Working coppers will are trying to get jammed by our idiot boss, clout coppers and exempts will never suffer, and the aldercreatures get rich off of the taxpayers money.

It appears Tom is getting the short end of the stick because somebody who doesn't even know how to spell his name correctly trolled the blog and set him up by pretending to be him.

I have known Tom for over 25 years. Before he became a cop and the years that followed. So please don't be lured into thinking he posted something so blatantly written to attract a backlash.

As for IAD: They can obtain subpoenas and search warrants for any CR number that contains CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.

They are sworn officers. They cannot subpoena or do search warrants for department violations.

So the statement that credit card records are being subpoena is not out of the range of possibility.

There are Illinois state charges for gambling. So local sworn officers may use any legal means to obtain information in furtherance of their investigation.

Do I think the actual post is true, NO.

But I just wanted to let my fellow officers be aware that IAD has the same police powers as all of us do when an allegation against a department member includes criminal activity.

It is completely feasible for someone with subpoena power to drop a list of names and get the info. And you the account holder will never be the wiser.

I wanted to get involved with Internet gambling, but was too tired all the time from pushing a beat car to really study the sports lines on a daily basis and get it right. Only because of that reason, am I not caught up in this shit.

It is recreation, not something that prevents a person from being a cop. I work with two guys, one of whom told me he couldn't watch any sports event without a bet on the line. Ok, I understand it, he is not some ten year old kid cheering for the Cubs. He needs some action. A lot of grown men are like that. What do you expect them to do? "Cheer" for Old Notre Dame?

Another friend qualified for five figures in an on line poker tournament. What a godsend that was to his personal finances, expecially at this time of no raise and no contract. A good cop too. Maybe he will be fucked, our loss,. the city's loss, the department's loss. And for what? Adult recreation?

He posts all this "suburban sausage, traffic nazi, traffic sausage" shit. I think he is probably scared to stop anyone in his suburban enclave and his bosses called him on it.

I've met a bunch of "suburban model" coppers over the years, and most were stand up guys. GFY and quit trying to give us a bad name with other departments.

If they were going to place criminal charges on the "Gambling Nine", they would have to get a Grand Jury Subpoenas to get their credit reports.

If they want to go after them administratively, I don't think they have access to their credit reports. A person has to sign a document saying it's ok to peek at my credit history, i.e. looking for mortgage, buying car, etc.

Re the pissed-off wife, she probably requested her own credit report during divorce proceedings that could have shown joint credit cards with the hubby that revealed over-the-top spending. The wife could request past statements on the "joint" accounts only. These statements show every transaction made with the credit card, including the gambling transactions.
Paper trails can be a bitch. Ask anyone who was locked up for a white collar crime.

Best Regards,
Your friendly fraud dick

I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on...here!

And I seriously question that IAD any 'org' - and by 'org' I include any forward thinking street gang with deep pockets and organizational skills- needs legal paper to pull credit card records, CDR, etc.. 'its all out there'. They all got a 'goto guy',who either is or further has 'goto guy, who is or has a 'goto guy', who has a 'goto guy'....
all it takes is money , influence, and need. You sometimes bootstrap a case from the bottom up. You think there is a bad guy, you go out and figure out what 'dirt is under the fingernails' and then from that you figure out the legal 'exposure' and 'observe' accordingly, and build your case via legal means. Even if your original 'questionable' activities are actually discovered, you've already backstopped them with 'inevitable discovery' so the evidence won't be excluded.

As for this thread, the gambling thing.
I wouldn't sweat it too much. Seems to me if they wanna screw you, they are gonna. But you should stop gambling.
It very well may be a harmless vice but it against the law and you swore an oath to uphold the law. And if thats not enough its just plain stupid. And certainly don't drag your uncle into it and use his credit card. He's your kin.
And you then have to gamble he's gonna be standup and not rat you. Which he probably won't but why give him that grief. The only reason he'd be looking at a beef is because of you. So be polite to your elders, don't ask them to front for you. If you want to gamble, invest that same money in a casino stock. The only gamble you have is the extent it is an honest house. There is no gambling on the part of the casino, only the players. To a casino gambling is a science based on fundamental priciples like gravity. A well run 'honest' casino will even tolerate a 'counter' or a 'mechanical' as it actually draws more gamblers to a 'lucky table' where they scientifically extract more money from other gamblers than their temporary loss to the 'cheat'.
But not for long.

But back to the more practical. If you have the need to 'Net gamble on company time, then don't use your own card, or a relative or whatevah.
Go to your local Currency Exchange and buy a "stored value card" aka "gift card". It has a logo (mastercard usually) and 'walks and talks and looks' like a credit card. Even has a laser logo on it. Doesn't have a name imprinted - although you can take care of that elsewhere. And the only picture ID you have to show to get one is of dead presidents on the federal notes you use to buy one. The best part is its not a 'credit card' so you can't gamble more money that you have. And there is no interest, but a little 'vig'. There is of course the CCTV, but wear a cub's cap and keep your head down "That ain't me, It don't even look like me, and besides, I'm a Sox's fan". And don't use a 'company' computer to wager. Use a personal and change the MAC address. And encrypt the storage with a 'meltdown' boot. If its seized just claim "I dunno, somebody must have fucked it up".

The internet gaming act only provides penalties for the bet takers, and financial institutes whose purpose is to transfer the money, not the individuals who place the bets.As far as online poker goes, it is NOT illegal to play. The government has tried to impose legislation to prevent the financing. The only arrest i've ever heard of was the Neteller execs arrested 2 years ago. This caused them to shut down services to the USA and set poker back years. As far as credit card or ach deposits/withdrawals, the gambling site never has used it's own name and never will. They use private companies and bill as an entertainment or furniture expense. No way the offshore sites would ever consider giving up your info, this is their lifesource. USA action provides billions of revenue each year. Just my opinion, stay safe out there.

All I gotta say is:

1) 22 is great without a preflop raise.
2) AQ and Doyle Brunson's favorite hand will get you in a world of trouble.
3) If you don't like someone at your table just split 10s.
4) When it's five reds in a row just bet red again. It aint gonna be black.
5) Runner Runner (I'ts not your fault)
6) What ever happened to Julius Jones?
ante up
7)Bad beat pot great even if you suck.
8) Penny slots are only good when you play the maximum bet.
9) Dont play little lotto when its 175,000! Mega millions will beat that with 5 numbers and you have a shot at the mega ball.
10) If your gonna play powerball go a couple states away and have someone old buy the ticket.
11) If your gonna pitch pennies use a new coin
12) Kentucky Derby means
SUPERFECTA TIME!
Any questions?

I believe it was a crazed ex gf of mine making up some bullshit can't say for sure but I know for sure that about a year ago two I.R.S C.I.D Agents rang my door bell in the morning flahed their credentials and asked to talk to me.At first I was thinking stupidly they must be here to ask about some arrest I made or similar. Once they got in my house they dropped the bomb. That they wanted to talk to me about my finances.I answered their questions and I promise one of them was have you ever done any online gambling?I never have and I've never heard back from them.My point if they took the time to drive out and ask it's for a reason.
Can IAD or whoever obtain the entire departments credit card info? I don't think so but if you are the subject of a beef true or not I think they can and will. As far as them only going after the companies don't believe it if you gambled online and didn't report income on your taxes the I.R.S is interested. For the guys saying screw the Feds etc. etc. believe me it's one thing seeing them on tv or in a movie but when they come knocking on your door asking questions unless your a tougher man than me and whether you are guilty or not you'll be losing some sleep over it.

Also, I am maxed out in deferred comp, because I don't plan on being here past the ripe old age of 50. I also have a nice savings account because I do the little extras for my family and myself. I don't know what public high school you send your kids to, but, unless it is Whitney Young or another advanced learning center, high school tuition is very important and is worth a side job to help out. Everyone that I know at work is able to walk into a major store and get anything they want on a signature. If you fleeced your spouse away from some well-to-do family and are living with her money, then good for you. Otherwise, I think I speak for most of the other guys and gals with "good credit" when I say GO FUCK YOURSELF. I'll do the extras to provide for my family and my future and you, stay in your apartment and be miserable. And remember junior...bad credit can happen to anyone if that dark cloud decides to park itself over your house (apartment for you I'd guess) with medical bills, spousal loss of employment, and the like. So while you go polish your pennies, I and the majority of the Police Dept. will work our sidejobs knowing that every little bit helps our families and our futures!

Not uncommon.

Gambling can be a worse addiction than drugs.

Sad that his entire financial future pissed away on chance. Hope he didn't have kids as their live is messed up, too.

But this is what will happen on a vast scale if Shortshanks get his city casino.

While he yaks about how much revenue it will bring in (for his cronies and insiders) he makes no mention of the costs to society from its damages.

I was thinking about this. To get at credit records, a court would need to issue a subpoena. That would only be issued if the judge believed the subpoena would produce evidence of a crime. Is online gambling an Illinois crime? If not, just how would a CPD IAD cop get such a subpoena?

I read the ILCS section on gambling. It prohibits keeping a gambling establishment on th Internet, but not the use of it. However, wagers are generally prohibited, so you might be able to stretch that to show a crime. Or not.
