Another Company Suckhole

Under the post ticket book inspection:
  • time due is not a right, its a privilege
Uh, actually, there's a ruling in effect that says time die cannot be denied in an arbitrary manner. It's ours to do with as we please. We earned it in lieu of being paid overtime, therefore it's ours to "spend" as we see fit. Of course, the City is fighting the ruling in court, but they'll lose eventually and taxpayers will be stuck with another bill that could have been avoided if the City just abided by the original ruling.

We'll repeat this because it seems timely in the face of GPS and bosses demanding quotas in violation of policy:

This is your new best friend. Find one. Find more than one. Document occurrences, conversations, interactions with supervisors, states attorneys and citizens. It'll refresh your memory, it'll back you better than most bosses, it'll justify the cost within days, it's tax deductible.

It might even save your ass.

Holy 13,500 Batman!!!

Long I pondered my Patrol Specialist’s cryptic talk about police work and management. Time has proven him wise. For from DNA-free officer to DNA-free officer, the word was spread that the bold Chicago Police Officers, all 13,500, on their tours of duty from home, risking their lives; not just for the Department, but for all Chicagoans and the promise this country holds. Now, here on this ragged patch of earth called Shitcago, let da mayor’s hordes face obliteration!

Just there the politicians huddle, sheer terror gripping tight their hearts with icy fingers -- knowing full well what merciless horrors they will suffered at the sworn hands of 13,500. Yet they stare now across the plain at us about to pounce.

The political hacks outnumber us a paltry 3 to 1, good odds for any sworn officer. This day we rescue a city from corruption and tyranny and usher in a future brighter than anything we can imagine.

Give thanks, men and women, to the brave 13,500.

TO VICTORY!!!

Yes, the little ring notebook. Very useful.

It is also subject to subpoena and therefore would be open to scrutiny in court and available to the defense through discovery. Be careful what you write in it and make sure any reports and testimony jibe with your notes.

Other departments require their officers to keep daily notebooks and log their activities thoroughly. The CPD officers would likely moan and complain that it is an intrusion into their personal lives and could cut in to their newspaper or coffee time.

Timothy McVeigh was convicted in large part because of detailed notes taken by the arresting officer who made that original traffic stop. The officer's notes justified the stop and detailed McVeigh's actions and statements during the stop and later in the station.

Most CPD officers would likely file grievances and complain loudly if the department dared force them to keep such detailed notes of their actions and detailed documentation of their arrests.

However in other police circles it would be considered good police work.

I'm getting a digital recorder and will record every conversation I have with all bosses!

We NEED to do this because a lot of bosses especially at HQ. talk out of both sides of their mouths and have NO integrity nor backbone in what they tell you!

Keep notes on comments by D/C, W/C, Lt's and Sgts. They do come in handy.
Also, don't leave the notes in your locker.

Also, anytime you are given an order while conducting your investigation document it in the case report, if one is completed. You can also put a verbal order given on the radio.
eg, squad FYI, I was ordered to do X by beat ABC.

I learned the hard way. However, I then put all orders in my reports. One being an arrest I was ordered to make. I put it in the arrest and case reports. Low and behold the law suit came down. At the first motion hearing my partner and I were dismissed from the law suit.
It was very sweet, the look on the ordering boss was priceless.

Treated us great! Participated in ongoing project called "Allied Recon". We assisted interception of 15 illegals at night. Border Patrol was right on it after we called them in. The guys out there would love to see large groups of CPD helping them. Check out the website!

"I'm getting a digital recorder and will record every conversation I have with all bosses!"

Illinois's wiretapping law is a "two-party consent" law. Illinois makes it a crime to use an "eavesdropping device" to overhear or record a phone call or conversation without the consent of all parties to the conversation. The law defines an "eavesdropping device" as "any device capable of being used to hear or record oral conversation or intercept, retain, or transcribe electronic communication whether such conversation or electronic communication is conducted in person, by telephone, or by any other means." 720 Ill. Comp. Stat. 5/14-1, -2. If you are operating in Illinois, you should always get the consent of all parties before recording an in-person conversation or telephone call. In addition to subjecting you to criminal prosecution, violating the Illinois wiretapping statute can expose you to a civil lawsuit for damages by an injured party.

Obviously, you are free do to as you please. Just remember that the Illinois statue on eavesdropping is pretty straight forward.

Any verbal conversation that you record, assuming that you won't ask permission before you record, is illegally obtained and therefore unusable. Remember, there is a difference between video and audio. So not only would you NOT be protecting yourself, you may just find yourself in jail.

SCC / Off Topic:

015th DISTRICT J-FED ROLL CALL

Well, Friday 5 September was supposed to be a big day in “Fort Forgotten – 015”. J-Fed was supposed to show up with his big ego and his big bodyguards for a street roll call at 100 N. Pine at 1800hrs.

To say the least, the Commander; “Old Puddin’ Pop” pulled out all the stops and had the Watch Commander down as many cars as possible for the big production. They even had cars from other districts and units come in for the show. Old Puddin’ Pop put on his best aftershave; “Purple Pimp Pride” I believe it’s called.

After 45 minutes of waiting around, and 100+ pending jobs backlogged in 015, a call was made by someone to the 911/OEMC to “get rid” of as many jobs as possible (ie; those with no complainants, anything lower than a “higher priority’ category, etc.
IN THE END, old J-Fraud never showed up or called and WASTED everyone’s time with another USELESS bullshit rollcall.

Do us a favor J-Fraud – Put out a new order stating these “outdoor roll calls’ are no longer to be utilized as they are a fucking waste of time and taxpayers money. While bosses are attempting to suck up to you, 3 more “future doctor / honor roll students” could get killed because there is no police manpower out there.

My car isnt abandoned, i simply had expired sticker. I was outraged! You are going to write on my car as i stand next to you? WTF? If the city is going to play these games, I swear I will find ways to be paid without being at work. I will get my money back and FUCK EVERY city POLITICIAN!!!!

Here's a thought. How about strapping on a set and telling them to their faces? Just because someone posts some BS on this blog doesn't mean it's true. If it is true and you want to "expose their antics", expose your name as well as theirs.
Although this site offers great insights at times, it also provides a forum for cowards to post bullshit about someone they have personal issues with. I mean honestly, how fuc**d up are the individuals who continue to post about Scott or Carroll. I find it disturbing that they probably carry a gun. I said "probably", because I can neither prove, nor disprove that they are police officers.

If you post your opinions about what is wrong with this job, I understand the need for anonymous posting. But, if you want to personlly attack someone -sign your name.

To those on this post suggesting that they will/should record conversations with the bosses at 35th street: it's illegal to eavesdrop without their consent or a court order. Don't do it or they will fuck you by charging you and you will be fired.

I'm getting a digital recorder and will record every conversation I have with all bosses!

We NEED to do this because a lot of bosses especially at HQ. talk out of both sides of their mouths and have NO integrity nor backbone in what they tell you!

It is the old saying: "Do as I say and don't do as I do"!

If it is okay for the Feds and "joe shithead" to record, then it is okay for us lowly Police Officers to record the conversation to protect ourselves!

9/06/2008 07:22:00 AM

It is ok to record without the knowledge of those being recorded only with a court order. Otherwise you are violating the law recording all conversations and they can't be used for anything other than to get you sued or prosecuted.

OFF TOPIC. True story. I have a shitbox car i use for running errands and such and simply forgot to renew my license palte sticker. Expired Aug 31. Dont worry the car i take to work is LEGIT. So a meter maid goes down the block and I see her and she starts writing me a ticket. Talk to her, tell her im sorry i didnt even realize I had expired and she writes me anyway. no problem, i was wrong so i wil pay the 50 dollar fine, I hate to be a bitch like the average citizen that cant admit they are wrong so i deal with it. I take the ticket and figure i will get my sticker and no problem. Then this meter maid proceeds to order a TOW on my vehicle and write 7 day tow on my window. TOW? for expired sticker? My car isnt abandoned, i simply had expired sticker. I was outraged! You are going to write on my car as i stand next to you? WTF? If the city is going to play these games, I swear I will find ways to be paid without being at work. I will get my money back and FUCK EVERY city POLITICIAN!!!!

Though I agree with your sentiment 100%, there is no validation used on this website. Signing your name is meaningless, as there is no way to be even 1% certain that the name used is actually that of the person making the post.

--------------------------------------

NO I am not saying that at all. However, within the context of my original post I can easily see how you would jump to that conclusion. It was a poorly expressed thought on my part and I apologize for any confusion it may have caused.

The recording of any conversation without a valid court order or the knowing consent of the participants is illegal whether through an audio only recording device or video/audio recording device.

What I was alluding to, was that there is a different standard entirely for the recording of video only.

Just remember supervisors can document, document, document also. So now where does that leave you do nothings that think you should be paid just to show up at work. Who the hell do you all think you are. You couldn't work in private industry.you would be fired the first day.

9/06/2008 03:14:00 PM

Hey, Sergeant Rambo! How ya doin'? Still armchair supervising the blog, huh? How's your Toprol supply holding out?

Anything you can document on a patrolman can't possibly compare to your own special brand of lunacy, so right off the bat you're going to be mismatched when squaring off against anyone else who's holding a notepad and pen. You couldn't keep your composure in check long enough to accomplish anything in your favor. I wouldn't even bet on your ability to document your own bowel movement without lecturing the turd on the way down the drain.

If you do find yourself in a notepad duel try bamboozling your opponent by telling him or her about how they could never make it in private industry. Don't forget to mention your impressive collection of CR's, kills and federal lawsuits, and how you've been there and done it all before. Practice on the cleaning crew if you have to. No, wait! They're already in private industry. Better practice on the shoeshine guy instead.

With all of your references to failing in private industry it's no stretch of the imagination to assume you've been shitcanned from a past job or two of your own. I guess personal experience is always the best teacher!

UM! Yeah, I've been to that class and yes you are absolutely right that employees have NO right to privacy within the workplace (except the toilet - literally).

However, you are confusing two entirely different issues and if you don't/can't understand the difference then the subject isn't worth discussing.

This very issue was covered rather extensively during the IST for in-car camera.

I don't disagree with keeping a journal but be aware that if it becomes public, it can be called to evidence in court.

To Missy and now I guess Amber. (understanding full well it's a co-worker exposing their antics - or at least REALLY hoping it is) As a female officer it is the likes of you that makes it difficult for the rest of us. Any female officer not wishing to put on kneepads to get through her career has to work twice as hard to garner 1/2 the respect that males receive.

Please, continue to expose these pathetic excuses. Beyond the humor it puts an unwanted spotlight on them. Every district has at least 1 (in fact, not all are females) - let's show their asses here too.

Hi It's Missy here, and I am mad people.

Lady who posted 9/06/2008 11:06:00 AM above.

Who do you think you are, if you want to be a man, the city will pay for it. Is it your bsiness me and Amber love to write parking tickets. I only wish Amber was my partner, so we could write a thousand parkers a day for our beloved Mayor.

I bet you carry two guns and smoke in the squad car, and act like little rambo. Lady, when was the last time you wrote a parking ticket so our Mayor can give us a nice raise?

I bet in the academy, you were the one who would snap the towel at me in the shower. Also, all the males in my district respect me
100 %. You know why, because I am a worker and many knew my Uncle Tom. They loved him and now me. You bring up "Knee pads" is not very nice. My husband Lawyer explained to me what you meant. That was very-very bad of you.

And to the kind gentle P.O. male that stuck up for me and Amber on9/06/2008 06:26:00 PM a big-big Thank You. I really wish I knew who you are, I would tell my great uncle, Tom Byrne (rtd). You are true blue like him sir.

My uncle Tommy would help you get promoted on your merit, like me when I get to be a Sgt. for being a parking ticket guru.

Love ya all people, and be safe people, but I am mad still at that fe-female saying those rude things !
